The Coronavirus thread

So you had the **** kicked out of you in junior high?

Have you had that mental health check-up yet? Been a couple of weeks now that I've been suggesting it. Just get yourself checked-out, can't hurt, even at this late stage. Maybe they can find a way to help. Why keep putting it off?

Gonna need to hustle Steeltime. Almost end of reccess, you'll need to get your *** off the playground and back to class when you hear the bell ring. Pick up your feet, don't be late!

What a bunch of clowns you are. Visiting this board is like taking a trip down memory lane, back to junior ******* high. :ROFLMAO:

No wonder you all fell so hard for a failed casino owner/reality tv show President. He had you eating out of his hand. LOL.
yeah, **** putting the United States of America first in negotiations with other countries

what we needed, and did not know, is less jobs, less security, more taxes and more division.
thanks and praise be to President Peepads and Vice Whoresident Kneepads for leading us into this dark, dismal tunnel and away from the light.

Anyone who ever propagated deep state conspiracies, dem pedo accusations, or the Dominion voter fraud conspiracy for starters. There was also a QAnon thread not long ago... not started by “us”.
just quoting this again so it's not lost.

what we needed, and did not know, is less jobs, less security, more taxes and more division.
I already knew some of you guys were pretty far gone, that's been painfully obvious these past four years. But it still shocking to realize how bad it is.

How are any of these things even close to being a problem? Have you seen jobs reports of late? Are you paying attention to the stock market? Have you seen the economic numbers recently? Higher taxes? For who? Have you studied Biden's proposals on this? Do you have any idea about them? Have you not seen the overriding majority support for Biden's economic recovery initiatives? On security, are you falling for the right wing media dupe, that numbers on the southern border weren't spiking already for months before Biden took over? More division? How is Biden/Harris doing anything at all to create more division?

It's like you've been pre-programmed to dismiss anything and everything that's happening right now. Because it's Biden. Because it Kamala Harris. Because it's the Dems. To the point that you can't see two inches in front of your nose.

I know my words don't matter one iota. I know you guys are locked-in with your political views and are conviced beyond a doubt how right you are. So there's no point discussing anything on this board. That's why I just swing by here for ***** & giggles.

But for everyone's sake, I do hope the economic recovery & jobs gains continue to be robust, that things overall continue trending in the right direction stateside.

Even if you yahoos choose to hide out in your bunkers, clutching your pearls, preparing for another civil war, or whatever it is you're freaked out about this week.

you guys are locked-in with your political views and are conviced beyond a doubt how right you are.
As you are with your views.

So now you're switching away from "but he's just a surgeon" to making it a data argument. Look squirrel!!!

As I have posted, as you have not bothered to read....the Good Doctor has said we are at herd immunity in some areas like Alaska (because they have killed it with vaccines) and not so much in others. Lockdowns, vaccination rates, locale all affect how each state will rebound. You know, kind of like how it hit New York and New Jersey and Seattle first and took a LONG time to get other places???

Let's just focus on that original article and do an elementary school test. Extrapolated from the article and previously posted:
  • “About 1 in 600 Americans has died of Covid-19, which translates to a population fatality rate of about 0.15%. The Covid-19 infection fatality rate is about 0.23%.” By that count...two-thirds of the country already had the virus; the survival rate is 90+ percent
  • With natural immunity, plus vaccinations soaring past 100 million by now, his estimate of herd immunity isn’t nuts.
  • He cites an unpublished Israeli study by the nation’s ministry of health that showed just one dose of the Pfizer vaccine renders the subject virtually “bulletproof” from COVID after four weeks.
  • Anthony Fauci has been saying that the country needs to vaccinate 70% to 85% of the population to reach herd immunity from Covid-19. But he inexplicably ignores natural immunity. If you account for previous infections, herd immunity is likely close at hand.
  • Data from the California Department of Public Health, released earlier this month, show that while only 8.7% of the state’s population has ever tested positive for Covid-19, at least 38.5% of the population has antibodies against the novel coronavirus. Those numbers are from Jan. 30 to Feb. 20. Adjusting for cases between now and then, and accounting for the amount of time it takes for the body to make antibodies, we can estimate that as many as half of Californians have natural immunity today.
  • The same report found that 45% of people in Los Angeles had Covid-19 antibodies. Again, the number can only be higher today.
  • Between “half and two-thirds of our population has antibodies in it now,” due to Covid exposure or vaccination, Mayor Eric Garcetti said Sunday on “Face the Nation.”
  • That would explain why cases in Los Angeles are down 95% in the past 11 weeks and the positivity rate among those tested is now 1.7%.
Please, for the audience, from the list above, cite what is data and what is an estimate.

Finally, you're seeming to indicate that Fauci et al make no estimates based upon data (what the Good Doctor does above). Please provide evidence Fauci does NOT provide estimates that are based on data.....

This will be good

One other question Floggy. Do you...you personally...believe in natural immunity? Your leaders you follow so devoutly have told you what to think on this. I'm curious your answer.
For **** sake, Tim. Read what you posted. The word “estimate” is used several times as are words such as “likely”.

The difference between Fauci and
Makary is that Fauci is focusing on the rule whereas Makary is focusing on the exception to the rule. One works to solve the problem, the other tries to ignore it.

Yes I believe in natural immunity, I also believe that we don’t know how many currently have it, how long it lasts, how effective it is against variants or how many vaccines went to people who have it. Something to consider in your herd immunity estimate.

There have been 30,871,000 Covid cases. You’re claiming that 65,000 or so should have been reported as flu cases. Fine, so there have really only been 30,806,000 Covid cases. What could possibly be your point???

I don't buy for one second that in the USA, population of 328.2 Million, a nation that annually sees between 60-80K flu cases, that this season there were only a little over a thousand. YOU believe it to be true because masks and lockdowns. I don't buy it.

What rule is Fauci focusing on?? :ROFLMAO: All the man does is make projections. Estimates. And the Good Doctor is absolutely right in challenging Fauci's assumptions. Fauci has "estimated" that we need to get 75-80% of Americans vaccinated to achieve herd immunity and he IS ignoring natural immunity. Point blank, he is. The Good Doctor says accurately we have to couple in NATURAL IMMUNITY as well to the COVID estimates to more accurately get to herd immunity.

The Good Doctor is also not ignoring the problem. He's sane. He realizes we are very close and it is time to stop these draconian lockdowns for a virus that has a mortality rate of just under .2%. He is working to solve the problem of the lockdowns that are having world-wide negative effects on humankind.

What exactly is Fauci doing to solve the problem? Advocating for further lockdowns? Triple masking? Appearing on talk shows? Please, do illustrate for us the work he does beyond pontificating in front of a camera.

As has been your schtick since day one, LOVING locking down the country, ruining businesses, ruining lives, increasing mental health problems and substance abuse problems....you think because we don't know 100% of everything that "might" happen this asinine nonsense should continue. Color me not surprised.

"Because there could be a variant, because we don't know how many have immunity, keep everyone in a bubble."

News flash Einstein....we may never know. The CDC never knows how many people have immunity to the flu. We don't lock the ******* country down.

When exactly does your "I profit from COVID lockdowns so keep it going" *** say we should open up? Do you just follow the Liberal Left science? You just cheer for it to continue because you love this **** and have no compassion for people nor do you want any semblance of real life to continue? Is there some set of indices or data that would make your own draconian-self say "yep, safe to open up now?"

Seems you never will.

Interesting case study from our neighbors up north.

But now, Canadians are currently in the thick of a worsening and deadly third wave, with the country surpassing more than a million total COVID-19 cases this week and its largest provinces reporting thousands of new cases every day—a reality made worse by the fact that new infections are far outpacing Canada’s slow, fragmented, and confusing vaccine rollout. Even the U.S., a country that has recorded the most COVID-19-related deaths in the world with more than 554,000, has issued the highest warning against all travel to Canada.

Nearly two-thirds of all new cases are caused by more contagious and at times deadlier mutant variants, even sending young people who were once less likely to suffer severe illness to ICUs. According to Health Canada, there are more than 16,000 variant COVID-19 cases across the country, with the B.1.1.7 U.K. variant making up the bulk, and the P.1 variant, linked to a traveller from Brazil, worryingly making its way east after first being discovered in British Columbia. Experts are baffled how Canadian political leaders have seemingly ignored the most obvious public health advice all year: paid time off. Instead, they’ve introduced confusing and often lax lockdowns, and have failed to send vaccines to where they’re needed most.

I think 65K is flu deaths with flu cases in the millions.

I’ve believed for a long time now that covering your nose/mouth when you cough/sneeze and staying away from people when you’re sick will keep them from getting sick. Most people agree with me.

Correct, that is deaths.

Except for COVID. Didn't seem to work at all.

Regardless, we don't go from 65-80K deaths to 1,100 just because people were wearing masks. Again, not buying it.

Strawman.

Love lockdowns? No, I’m lucky in that it didn’t cost me my job and I personally knew only one person who died, but nonetheless... I missed watching my kids play sports because seasons got cancelled. The better part of two of the most unique and memorable years of their lives have been screwed by this pandemic. I missed being able to tour colleges with my son. He has fallen out of touch with many of his friends and is apathetic about a potential prom, graduation ceremony, etc. I had to cancel a vacation at the last minute and lost $s. My workload increased, my compensation did not.

But I separate the fact that it sucks from the necessity of it all.

When new cases are declining and are in the 3 or 4 figures instead of increasing and in 5 figures I’ll support fully opening up. Have you heard me protest the recent easing of restrictions.

Poor, poor you. So brave. So, so brave.

But hey, how about that traffic??

The fight to defeat Covid has certainly brought the world a little closer together. Perhaps that's the silver lining, in all this misery.

I just got vaccinated by a woman born in Vietnam, with a vaccine created by two Turkish refugees living in Germany and manufactured by a US company run by a Greek migrant. Thank you, world.

Where is your answer to the question about the rules Fauci is following that the Good Doctor is not? Do answer.

Your view of when to open is still far more draconian than most. Cases are declining in regions of the country. Deaths have drastically fallen. Do recall that when COVID hit, it hit the country in waves. Some areas whacked, others untouched. It spread in different areas, in different ways, at different times. So too is the recovery happening. A one size policy doesn't fit all. Hats off to Texas and Mississippi and others for taking the lead.

Touché, thanks for the laugh. Last vehicle I drove was an FJ-40 I had refurbished. Was a real tank off-road and obviously a gas guzzler. Got rear-ended once sitting in traffic in the rain, didn't feel a thing. Poor lady in a Hyundai didn't see the red light & drove right up under my back bumper, tee-peed her hood. Again, didn't feel a thing. Loved that truck, so bummed I sold it a few years back.
