The Coronavirus thread

maybe if we hadn't turned into a country full of *****'s that have to run to the hospital when their temp hits 99 degrees, or they have a headache; or their tummy hurts we wouldn't be so damn overrun at the hospital. Yes having covid sucked, yes I felt bad but I was not going to go the hospital where there is better chance of getting sicker than there was from staying home.

I know a **** ton of people that got covid, and I know two that died. one was in is late 60's with an insulin pump and a pacemaker, the other was 59 and had already had several heart attacks. One other friend of mine ended up in the hospital, 82 years old with one lung. we both got covid at the same time and three months later were dove hunting together.

People are so afraid of death that they will do almost anything to stay alive, even if that thing could cause death (just listen to the side effects of most drugs.) Guess what folks no one is getting out alive, at least not from this earth. Get yourself right with God and let the chips fall where the fall. There is only one way to live forever and that is through Christ, so to take a line from the movie troy "everyone dies be it today or fifty years from today so what difference does it make."

Those that live their life in fear of covid are already dead because they are not living life. whether you believe it or not God has a plan and if you are meant to die of covid-19; than guess what there isn't any mask, social distancing, or vaccine that is gonna change that. So go out to eat, go to the movies, visit family and friends; live life and be happy cause its gonna be over before you know it. Once your gone you can't get that time back with your friends and family.

Please don't let fear and the government steal anytime from you.

Rack it!

We are likely there in some regions, but even the NIH is on board saying we are close in areas. Good news all around.

God gave us people with brilliant minds who learned to create tools to prevent and treat illness and death. That's part of God's plan if you ask me. Taking reasonable steps to prevent illness is not "living in fear".

Nope you are right. But, I agree with you both on this one.

I take preventive medicine. I've had all my vaccines save for this one. I believe God wants me "taking care of my temple" and generally trusting (not blind trusting) today's doctors. I'll take a vaccine when one comes out I trust.

But given all the news about masking, NO 4th OF JULY!, stay 6 feet apart (that too now seems bullshit) and all the draconian measures, I side with Warrior's sentiment on those issues - stop living in fear. I know he was alluding to the vaccine - but in general I say we need to get rid of the fear the media and these agencies intentionally sowed amongst us all.

The recent ProjectVeritas video shows admission by CNN that they were intentionally doing just that, ramping up fear.

It's time we shed that fear, get vaccines, shed the draconian failed lockdown bullshit and get back to life while protecting the vulnerable. That I can support.

Like when they’re being airlifted from the White House to Walter Reed?

So I post a legitimate poll with actual information and all you can say is Trump? Man that guy really got in some of yinz heads.

You see nothing wrong with the fact the majority of Americans think they have a 40% or higher chance of going to the hospital after contracting COVID when the actual chance is 1/10th of that? I guess in your mind the media must be doing its job...

Flog, going over Covid fear statistics, then learning the fear drastically outpaces reality:

With the advent of the welfare state you also have deadbeats using the ER as their primary care.

100% true. Notice how deadbeats are basically all lefty lib lying losers?

Like Steeler Nation. Leftists pollute the board with their noxious spewing, and can't find $8 to keep the site going, relying on conservatives to pay the bills.

Just like real life. Right, Flog, you cheapskate *******?

Argh.

Just got a call from my son's school. He is a close contact of someone who tested positive. He will have to quarantine and miss his football banquet Sunday.

Despite the fact that he had covid in December and has had one dose of the vaccine.

4 years of devoting hours every week and he doesn't get to go an receive his senior year varsity letter in front of his teammates. Despite the fact that the "banquet" is outside in a parking lot with everyone staying in their parking space away from each other.

It's bullshit.

So while I'm a great believer in science and research I am not a believer in the over the top nonsensical bullshit from our government. Science says he's almost at zero risk of getting it or transmitting it, especially sitting in a parking space 20 feet away from other people.

Such crap.

I am so sorry. I literally feel your pain.

My son is a HS senior. Had aspirations of playing college basketball. Good enough to do so at some small DII and most DIII schools. Last summer was supposed to be his auditioning - AAU tournaments with college scouts. Then a fall HS season with college coaches visiting. He set a school record this year taking 40 charges for his HS team in a single season. Can shoot the lights out from 3, can dribble and is a good point guard or a shooting guard.

COVID killed it all. No scouts recruiting, no real legit tourneys last summer.

Then the NCAA said seniors in college sports could come back for a fifth year if they wanted to. Many did, reducing the spots for HS seniors to obtain because many Seniors in College elected to return.

So the fall comes around, the People's Republic of Maryland shut down all sports. But in October, the state opened up. Except...my....damned county, ultra-Liberal Montgomery County MD decided to remain shut down. The rest of the state played sports, counties 10 minutes from us open and playing. My kid didn't get to do the summer circuit where our kids usually get something. No HS season to invite coaches to. I spend thousands on recruiting, but he is 5'11" and without seeing a player play, they basically made cut offs on height. We contacted nearly 4,000 college coaches, D1 and down. Anyone can fake a highlight tape. We sent so much tape. Tons of it. Full games, highlights. In the end, 5 small schools wanted him. As his trainers and coaches would say, all he needs is a college coach to see him play, they'll see what a difference maker he is.

Adding all of the above up, there were fewer college spots, no ability to showcase his skills in person, etc. Tape wasn't enough. He was an inch too short.

Then COVID killed him. Literally destroyed his passion. To the point I was mentally concerned about him. The isolation wore him down and he lost all motivation and a month ago, he said I'm done. I'm not playing basketball any more. I can't. Broke my heart. For him. For us. We have been a team since 2nd grade, trying to achieve his dream. He worked harder than anyone knows.

The lockdowns and my county on top of it crushed it all. Crushed his spirit, took his drive. In the end, it's costing me 6 figures in money he'd have likely gotten in scholarships or academic deferments.

He had no "final" game, no senior night. Never knew he played his last game.

Now there is a rumor there will be a 3 week season in May. Far too little and far too late. At least he will have a final game and a senior night.

I'm sorry your son doesn't get to do his banquet.

The cost all of this has put on people can't be measured. Dreams have also been destroyed.

That's so heartbreaking Tim, I'm sorry.

Look I am not a scientist but I do have a comprehensive science degree covering biology, chemistry, physics, math etc. So I feel I am just as well equipped if not better equipped than most to make an educated decision on whats going on around me. I am not saying you shouldn't do what you feel is best for you, I'm saying the math doesn't make sense.

If you look at the line of bullshit you are being fed just about masks. first it was; you don't need a mask then it was only an n95 mask then it was any ole thing will do. they have been lying since day one, what in the world makes you think they have told the truth about one single thing? If you know the slightest thing about science it would make sense to you that getting covid offers more protection than a vaccine. hell even scientist are now saying the same thing.

If you look at what they are saying about the vaccine now that you may need a shot every year as compared to some studies that have come out saying that for all they know you may have years of protection by getting the covid common sense says that if you are healthy it actually may be best to just get it and get it over with. I will have to do some research as to where i read that a small number of people who have had the vaccine have still gotten covid-19.

Like I said earlier people need to do what hey feel is best for them, but the science just doesn't make sense to me.

We had our first employee test positive after vaccination today. She was not feeling well, came to work, and tested positive. Luckily none of the residents tested positive (yet).

Please do explain how fear of the Covid vaccine is rational, but fear of Covid is irrational?
To be fair, both fears are irrational. They are both predicated on the notion that they are both uber-deadly end of world killers. The facts are that for the overwhelming stunning vast majority of us, COVID nor the vaccine will kill us.

You fall into one of the irrational camps. You believe COVID to be worse than the bubonic plague and you peddle in the fear business. Over the top, utterly irrational. "Masks! Lockdowns!! The world is ending!!!"

No different than the irrational people scared to death of the vaccines I suppose.

With arguments like that, it’s no wonder you’re a failed lawyer.

Uhh, freeloading douchbag *******, no sentient being - other than a moron liberal bum - could construe what I posted as an "argument."

So back to freeloading, you worthless *****.

Says the guy who once shot a semi-auto 30-30 lever action rifle.

I love my 30-30 I used to have to cross the creek and go through my fence and thick brush to hunt. It was very convenient to have a short light gun plus i was very accurate with it. I took my g-paps 308 out once and that thing was a beast. It was probably 2x as heavier as my gun as much longer. First gun i used for hunting was a 20 gauge. Luckily I never had to shoot at anything live with it. I had 0 confidence with that gun.
