Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is ready to put a resolution on the House floor holding former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress after refusing to comply with subpoenas regarding their ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The House Rules Committee will vote on bringing the measure to the floor on Monday when the chamber returns from a weeklong recess. The vote is heavily expected to pass as Republicans have a majority on the panel.

Holding the Clintons in contempt passed along bipartisan votes lines the House Oversight Committee.

“Subpoenas are not mere suggestions; they carry the force of law and require compliance,” Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said. “Former President Clinton and Secretary Clinton were legally required to appear for depositions before this Committee. They refused”

Nine Democrats on the oversight panel voted with every single Republican to hold the former president in contempt. Meanwhile, only three Democrats crossed the aisle to hold the former secretary of state in contempt.

The Clintons were set to appear before the oversight committee earlier this month, but they no-showed for their depositions.
