Present Trump's approval rating among likely voters soars to his best in 23 months at 52 per cent

Rasmussen Reports poll as Trump at 52 per cent approval, his best showing in 23 months and a higher number than his winning edge in 2016.

Significant up-swing since government-shutdown low of 43 per cent New numbers were collected in the three days immediately following State of the Union address.

Asked what Monday's number mean, a senior Democratic House aide confided on background: 'I don't know yet if it's horrible, but it sure isn't good'

House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy: Pelosi and Democrats caved on Trump's border barrier demand

"The Democrats have now agreed to more than 55 miles of new barrier being built," says the California Republican.

"The Democrats changed course when they said, 'There would be no detention beds,'" says McCarthy. "They backed away on that."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had said "'no money for a wall;' that's not the case," the California Republican said in a "Squawk Box" interview. "The Democrats have now agreed to more than 55 miles of new barrier being built."

Congressional negotiators said they reached a tentative deal late Monday to fund the government and avoid another shutdown. A congressional source told CNBC it would put about $1.4 billion toward physical barriers, but not the concrete wall that the president wants.

Heard some asshat on the radio this morning saying it's for a barrier, not a wall!

No matter what they come up with, he still has to sign it

President Trump Undecided on Whether to Accept Border Deal: White House Official

Donald Trump has yet to decide whether he’ll support a potential funding deal thrashed out by congressional negotiators Monday that would force him to accept much less wall funding than he said he wanted.

Negotiators agreed in principle to a deal that would allocate $1.375 billion to build 55 miles of new border barriers—far short of the $5.7 billion Trump has asked for. However, the agreement would also scrap the Democratic demand for a limit on the number of detentions of immigrants apprehended in the U.S.

The White House is waiting to review the full language of the deal before deciding whether to support it. To avoid another partial government shutdown at the end of the week, the potential deal would have to be written into legislation, pass both chambers of Congress and get Trump’s approval before Friday night.

Tough decision for Trump. He's in this to win and is used to winning.

I guess he should sign it to get the ball rolling. Have re-elected presidents ever regained both Houses? I haven't a clue.

He would not need to regain both houses, just the House of Representatives. A ****-ton of (D)'s are running scared, knowing that their "We Hate Trump" approach is not going to win re-election and will instead likely cost them their seats in districts with a close vote.

As to re-taking control of Congress during the Presidential election where the incumbent wins re-election, some examples:

1984 - R's gain 16 seats in House, D's retain control
1996 - D's gain 2 seats in House, R's retain control
2004 - R's gain 3 seats, R's retain control
2012 - D's gain 8 seats, R's retain control

So great question - and history shows that while the re-elected incumbent carries more of his party into the House, the party which held control going into the election has always retained control. This means that the House seems likely to remain (D)umb in 2020, but with an increase in (R) representation.

The Pubbies have 22 senate seats up for reelection in 2020. The dims have 12. The dims had 24 up in 18 to 11. dims 24 to 10 in 16.

Incumbents usually get reelected 95+% of the time. Still, it should concern that the Pubbies didn't take dim seats in 16 and 18.

WINNING!

ASPLODING HEADS ALERT!

Warnings of Trumpism 'Forever' as Senate GOP Rams Through 44 Lifetime Judges in One Day

With the nation's eyes largely elsewhere in a sea of distraction on Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee quietly advanced 44 of President Donald Trump's federal judicial nominees in what civil rights defenders denounced as a "monster markup" that threatens to leave the president's dangerous ideological footprint on the nation's courts for generations to come.

Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, said the move "disturbingly exemplifies the joint Senate Republican-Trump administration effort to distort our federal judiciary and roll back our civil and human rights."

Gupta also accused Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the committee's chairman, of defying "the committee rules and basic fairness in jamming through more than 40 nominees for lifetime appointments, many of whom have a demonstrated hostility to our rights."

The irony. Where the distortion actually is.

If Trump is a successful candidate in 2020, then he will carry a lot of senatorial candidates across the finish line.

Regardless of the 2020 presidential election, I think the Republicans hold onto the Senate.

Nate Silver's analysis (and he leans liberal) is the Republicans are favorites. Here are all the races in 2020:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/feature...ve-again-in-2020-but-republicans-are-favored/

Alabama is going to switch back to Republican so that's +1 right off the bat (making it 54-46). Then you have 9 races up for grabs that currently stand 5-R, 4-D. So the Republicans can lose EIGHT OF NINE of the close races and still be a 50-50 split.

I think Republicans win Arizona, Iowa and North Carolina of those 9 close races at a minimum, which means you are looking at 52-48 majority as a realistic outcome with Republicans possibly picking up one more seat by getting an upset in (close) races like New Hampshire, Virginia or Michigan.

I'm really not too worried about the Senate.

If many human beings think rationally, the socialists are going down bigly.

Not so sure about AZ. A day or 2 ago ex-astronaut and husband of ex-congresswoman Gabby Giffords announced he would run against Martha McSally next year.

The local media, as well as the national were slobbering all over this. One would have thought he was guaranteed the seat, although he doesn't even have the democratic nomination yet, a fact that has pissed off some that were thinking of getting into the race.

No matter who wins, they will have to run again in 2022, because McCain chose to die before stepping down. Kyl was appointed for McCain, and he stepped down, McSally was appointed for Kyl, and even if she prevails in 2020, will have to run again in 2022.

On the plus side, Kelly is very much gun control after the Mrs. was shot, but will probably run a campaign similar to Simema did where he says he loves everyone and wants to work across the isle.

Yeah but he won’t look as good in a short dress and boots.

Yeah...well hold that thought whilst the Dims ( as Vinny calls them ) show that the fight ain't over till the last city burns to the ground. This article came out this morning and if it don't scare y'all, then I guess nuthin will.

End Of The American Dream
http://endoftheamericandream.com/ar...n-cities-are-becoming-uninhabitable-hellholes

Almost everyone that goes out to visit one of our major cities on the west coast has a similar reaction. Those that must live among the escalating decay are often numb to it, but most of those that are just in town for a visit are absolutely shocked by all of the trash, human defecation, crime and public drug use that they encounter. Once upon a time, our beautiful western cities were the envy of the rest of the world, but now they serve as shining examples of America’s accelerating decline. The worst parts of our major western cities literally look like post-apocalyptic wastelands, and the hordes of zombified homeless people that live in those areas are too drugged-out to care. The ironic thing is that these cities are not poor. In fact, San Francisco and Seattle are among the wealthiest cities in the entire nation. So if things are falling apart this dramatically now, how bad will things get when economic conditions really start to deteriorate?

But let’s not be too hard on Los Angeles, because the same things that are going on there are happening in major cities all over the western portion of the country.

For example, a massive rat infestation recently forced authorities to close a shockingly filthy homeless encampment under a bridge in Salem, Oregon…

I am quite eager to talk about San Francisco, but before we get to the City by the Bay, let’s take note of something that just happened in Denver.

If you are into public defecation, you will be very happy to learn that Denver just made it legal…

First, the obvious: The Denver City Council has voted unanimously to decriminalize a number of offenses, including defecating in public. Also, urinating in public. Camping on public or private land without permission. Panhandling. And lying across public rights-of-way, such as sidewalks.

Democrat Mayor Michael Hancock and city officials explained the new ordinances are designed to protect immigrants — legal and the other kind — from “unintended consequences.” These consequences were fines and longer jail terms, as has been customary in most places for violating the behavioral norms of civilized American society.

If only America’s founders could see us now.

They would be so proud.

San Francisco is a pretty good place to “hang out with a sign.” People are rarely arrested for vagrancy, aggressive panhandling or going to the bathroom in front of people’s homes. In 2015, there were 60,491 complaints to police, but only 125 people were arrested.

Public drug use is generally ignored. One woman told us, “It’s nasty seeing people shoot up — right in front of you. Police don’t do anything about it! They’ll get somebody for drinking a beer but walk right past people using needles.”

In San Francisco they actually give out free syringes to drug addicts, and it is being reported that they handed out a total of 5.8 million free syringes in 2018. And with so much public drug use going on, it should be no surprise that crime is completely and totally out of control. Each day in San Francisco, an average of 85 cars are broken into.

And San Francisco is generous. It offers street people food stamps, free shelter, train tickets and $70 a month in cash.

“They’re always offering resources,” one man dressed as Santa told us. “San Francisco’s just a good place to hang out.”

So, every week, new people arrive.

America is in an advanced state of decay, and it is getting worse with each passing year.

If we keep doing the same things we will keep getting the same results, and right now there are no signs that the overall direction of this nation will change any time soon.

The worst of it is that these idiots are proud of their lunacy........ridiculous.

Senate votes to confirm Trump pick William Barr as new attorney general

The Senate voted Thursday to approve William Barr as attorney general, giving the Justice Department its first confirmed chief since President Trump ousted Jeff Sessions last fall.

More than 50 senators voted for Barr’s nomination, giving him enough support to be confirmed. The vote caps off a relatively low drama fight over Trump’s second nominee for the post. Barr was largely on a glide path after he cleared the Judiciary Committee and a procedural vote without any missteps that threatened GOP support for his nomination.

Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) appeared to be the only Republican who would vote against Barr on Thursday, while Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Doug Jones (Ala.) and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.) broke with their party and supported him.
