I'm with you in spirit and agree we should honor the military and their service to the country, But it seems you have your national holidays mixed up. The 4th of July is supposed to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States as a nation. It’s not a military holiday. That’s why we have Memorial Day and Veterans Day. That's why it's more than a little strange to see the draft-dodger, aka Donald 'Bone Spurs' throw a military parade in his own honor.

I don't want to start arguments today, but that's not wholly correct.

It's not specifically a "military" holiday. But it has military undertones.

"Independence Day is annually celebrated on July 4 and is often known as "the Fourth of July". It is the anniversary of the publication of the declaration of independence from Great Britain in 1776."

That independence was achieved via the American Revolution. Independence was achieved as a result of Americans shedding blood.

The 4th of July absolutely ties into not just the birth of this nation, but how that document, the Declaration, came to be.

Predictably, Trump is being mocked and ridiculed for his 'I Wanna Be a Despot Too' parade by friends and foes alike. In this case, I imagine he considers Putin & Russia a friend. Not an unexpected source for you guys to be referencing - Russian state TV. Whatever point you are trying to make is not made well because who gives a **** what Russian state TV says. You guys are great - Russia is colluding with Trump - Russia ridicules Trump. There is no crisis - not only is there a crisis but there are concentration camps, the economy is not that great - the great economy is a result of Obama's policies.. LOL

Inside the left's visceral hatred of America, and all things 'America', is a hate, fear, and mistrust for any acknowledgement of our armed forces. Trump throws a birthday party for the Republic and chooses to include our beloved in uniform and some of their hardware. Not lines of mobile missile launchers, tanks, artillery pieces, goose-stepping shock troops, and other props actual despots preen before the world.

Don't confuse 'cordial' with friendship as regards our adversaries. As regards the 4th, look for the hidden message toward said adversaries in such a celebration - despite the lunatic left, their puerile whining, and overt hostility toward the Republic, 'we have it, and we're proud of it'. Trump is a lot of things, despotic isn't one of them. He loves this Republic and its people - even the lunatic left.

If memory serves, your father fought an actual despotic regime, one that lived up to the definition. That regime murdered 10s of millions of its citizens, most for no reason other than they were Christian. Trump does not 'exercise power tyrannically' - it isn't in his nature and he's bound against doing so constitutionally. He does not 'exercise absolute power in a brutal or oppressive way' - again, it isn't in his nature and he's bound against doing so constitutionally. Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Andropov, et al were despots. Trump isn't even in their universe. He just wants the Republic to be great again. And it boggles the mind that anyone would be triggered by that.

BTW sports fans, Andropov was the master mind behind crushing the Hungarian revolt while he was head of the KGB in that part of the woods. Based on that 'success' be rose to head the KGB and further to General Secretary. Andropov was an actual despot.

Fourth of July flag-burning at White House erupts in chaos, with 3 arrested


At least three Revolutionary Communist Party supporters were detained outside the White House after burning two American flags on the Fourth of July.

The activists, opposing President Trump and calling for a "world without America," were met by a large counterprotest.
