Senate confirms Wheeler to lead EPA

The Senate on Thursday voted to confirm Andrew Wheeler as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a 52-47 mostly party-line vote.

Every Democrat voted against Wheeler, while Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) was the only Republican to vote against him.

At his confirmation hearing, Wheeler doubled down on the EPA’s efforts under Trump to streamline environmental regulations, which in many instances meant dramatically re-writing, challenging and shrinking agency rules put in place under former President Obama.

Wheeler in his opening remarks highlighted 13 major deregulatory actions he had overseen in his six months heading the EPA on an acting basis, including proposals to roll back environmental regulations for power plants and vehicle emissions and protections for small waterways. He said it saved Americans “roughly $1.8 billion in regulatory costs.”

Democrats blasted Wheeler for continuing the Trump administration’s deregulatory agenda, which included a dramatic drop in enforcement against polluters.

I don't care if Trump spent his youth teasing baby birds. He's trying to save the Republic, which is a great deal more than his predecessors dating back to Dutch and then back to Lincoln tried to do. I didn't vote for him to be my Sunday School teacher. I voted for him to right the ship and prosecute with great prejudice and hostility those who sent it all wobbly.

Sessions definitely didn't help matters when it came time to drain the swamp. Hell he was a swamp creature just like the rest of the crooks he was supposed to bring to justice. I have a feeling he was just a plant within the Trump campaign from the start. He gained Trumps confidence and in case he won, then the swamp had an insider in one of his top cabinet spots.

Trump would have been wise to just hire trusted employees and former employees for those inner circle jobs.

I don't think Sessions was a bad guy but he'd been in D.C. too long and had too many friends to be an effective AG.

IMHO, Sessions was there to serve a purpose, then 'evacuated' to retirement so he's off the swamp radar. I believe that purpose was to establish the SC, recuse himself, not appoint another SC, and to steer Horowitz and Huber, all while appearing to be just a bumpkin and pain in POTUS' *** - all subterfuge to an end. To this day the dims and the media see him as a 'good guy'. He and his family can enjoy the rest of their lives free of the swamp's harassment. In a sting, the stung must never know that there was a sting.

Short answers - they'll have to adapt or perish, and they will continue to obfuscate until the shareholders make them adapt.

A lot of the value of 'traditional' media is that it is now circulated and referenced through social media. That's the real value of Facebook - reaching a ginormous audience that isn't nearly as accessible through traditional media.

'News' is originated then disseminated. The origins are diminishing in exposure and value - witness the consolidation of traditional media over the last decade; Verizon bought... AT&T bought... etc, etc.. The disseminators are increasing in value - witness the explosion of digital and social media over the last decade; Facebook, etc. Traditional 'news' originates in echo chambers and is disseminated over even larger echo chambers. But traditional news resonates to fewer and fewer as the left's behavior deteriorates. Non- traditional news has emerged in the form of bloggers, then a range of alternatives that are disseminated across the same social networks that 'carry' the shills.

But who does it reach? The left reaches the left. Everybody else ignores. We're about 60% conservative in core values and higher in some issues per the latest from Gallup. Infanticide redpills people. AOC idiocy repills people. Leftist behavior redpills people. You saw the backlash at the 'Cohen hearing' while Trump was trying to fix the Norks.

The MSM operates in an ideological echo chamber, something that wasn’t AS true as recently as decade ago. The echo chamber has become an ideological bubble, and that bubble is growing more extreme daily. Bubbles always burst. Everyone acknowledges that Trump’s election was a spectacular miss on the MSM's part, and if the media doesn’t figure that out, it will continue to miss. They continue to miss. And worse daily.

Trump is a business man. OK, and so are Bloomberg and Steyer. Trump is not an ideologue. They are. Ideology resonates with the left, in fact it is the price of admission. It grates on everybody else. A Trump could be elected because he taps into the patriotism of Americans with no particular ideology beyond 'Make America Great Again'. The ideologies of the others antagonize them. Trump walks and breathes 'Make America Great Again'. He IS 'Make America Great Again'. The other businessmen ARE their ideologies. We saw this play out in the black and Hispanic votes in 18. And as it it being reported, 60% or so of Americans want the wall. Those numbers are growing in the black and Hispanic electorates as well.

The MSM forecasted a huge blue wave in 18. In fairness, the not-MSM forecasted a red wave. Neither happened. Voter fraud is the culprit (nuther thread) that prevented a red Tsunami. But what did happen in 18 was that all the fraud was exposed, recorded and won't be allowed to be repeated. There are prosecutions under way. No, the MSM won't touch that.

So where am I going with all this? I think this portends a more honest 2020 election, likely a red wave, and certainly a second Trump administration. At that point with all the recriminations in the rear view mirror, we can return to something of 'normalcy'. "Education' will continue its lunacy. Corporate America will adjust and pander to the 'normal' landscape. The MSM will follow corporate America. After all, they're businesses.

I don’t think Trump has a Machiavellian bone in his body. I think what you see is what you get, and he is an incredibly naive politician. He trusts too much and makes really bad personnel decisions. His negotiation skills are all about what he does. He is not putting people in place like chess pieces IMO. That’s why he does great with other leaders and ***** the bed against the swamp. He’s learning, but I really think he can’t believe that people can be such fucktards. The new AG will **** him and he wil survive.
