North Korea has NOT:
-Eliminated a single nuclear weapon
-Eliminated any missiles

North Korea HAS:
-Increased nuclear fuel
-Hidden its missile bases

And this article goes further, that Trump may be tip-toeing towards a nuclear freeze with NK, allowing them to keep all their current nukes. That's exactly the opposite of what US foreign policy has been since the beginning. So that's how we're gonna declare victory here? Simply lower the expectations dramatically and say we've met the mark?

NK believes the only reason it is relevant - and this is true, by the by - is because it has nuclear weapons. It will demand A LOT to give up those weapons. NK leaders are insanely paranoid that the South will invade, backed up by the United States, and subjugate NK.

So NK has nuclear weapons, as well as 1.3 million person army along with 6 million reserves. What are the choices here?

• Armed conflict. Yikes, hundreds of thousands dead.
• Current policies remain. Proven ineffective, in large part because China acts as NK's sole customer, and buyer of food, and provider of military hardware and training. China likes having NK as a buffer between it and the West.
• Ratchet up sanctions ... how exactly? NK is a loner state with no support outside of China. China pretty much does what it wants.
• Do something to change the situation, and that includes changing our approach.

I don't like a policy of discussing NK keeping its nuclear arms. But Trump did not overseee this nuclear build-up. Clinton, Bush, and Obama did so. But at this point, something has to change. And opening up NK to outside influence is a worthwhile goal. East Germany + increased contact with the West = no more East Germany.
