The Pickett fake slide TD controversy

I get all the locals in here who think it was some amazing play. It wasn't. The rules are set up to overprotect QB's already. Had the defender took his damn head off like he should have everyone would be crying about that. The rule should have always been, as soon as the QB slows down and starts his slide look, the play is over. They benefitted from it, but it was bullshit.
Exactly

If the defender puts forth any effort to move toward the QB Pickett slides, the defender touches him down and the play is over. It was lazy defense and Pickett took advantage of it.

"The rule clearly disadvantages the defense." Like about every rule written since Brady joined the nfl.

I know, I know, this is NCAA we're talking about, but the idea is worth visiting in the nfl, too.

Particularly if you want to pine for the old nfl some more.

I remember Peyton manning did something similar to us. Acted like he was going to slide but went sideways to get the extra feet to move the chains. I said it then and I’ll say it now. If you are going to give QB’s the protection of the slide to not get creamed then the instant they look like they are going to slide they are down. Otherwise you take all the protections away and let them take hits

He didn’t act. Manning flat out fell to the ground therefore “giving himself up.” The refs let him stand back up and convert a huge first down.

They need to do the same for going out of bounds as well, then.

Ravens Jackson quite often fakes going out of bounds to sneak more yards. If you can’t fake slide then you should be able to pump fake passes LOS
