The ridiculous idea of trading up for a Q

I've been thinking the same. I really think the steelers need to go WR and DB in the first 2 rounds. They lack depth and need a playmaker ar each spot. In Rd 1, it should be easy to get an immediate impact player at WR, CB or S. The problem is when it gets to Rd 2, all of the WRs and DBs i like are gone. The next tier of guys are more like 3rd rounders.
The Steelers could have a real chance at getting a stud CB in the first round. I've seen mocks where Stingley, Booth, and McDuffie have all been available. All three could be true No. 1 shutdown cornerbacks. It really thins out in the second round with only one or two guys I'd like and they profile more in a No. 2 or 3 mold. I don't think wide receiver is as deep as it was in recent years. Guys are going to propel in the second round, who as you said, are more third-round prospects.

Both of those guys haven't played in a year. Tuitt even longer. Alualu is 35. They are not good at that position. They have the opportunity to have Davis and possibly that Honey Badger guy as a safety. They need insurance on that DL. Last year was horrific against the run. They paid for it.

They will have what is needed most to win a superbowl and that's a championship defense. Invest the rest on the OL.

And the elephant in the room. Coaching and player development. Until they get some real teachers and tacticians it all may be for not.
Totally. Exactly. Precisely.

I guess the question comes down to how the Steelers see their roster, and they may see it differently than us. The Steelers will lie to themselves, and then believe their own lies. How the hell else can you explain the OL fiasco with an old QB last year? The problem is not with the players, it is with the decision makers who put them in positions in which failure was too likely.

So while I agree with Sask about Davis, I can see the Steeler brass thinking, "well, we have Alualu and Tuitt coming back, we'll be good there and can compete." Maybe they'll be right and the fact is they are more often than not. But after the OL mess of last year...
You absolutely cannot count Alualu and Tuitt. One hasn't played in a year and one is 36 and coming off a surgically repaired ankle. Whatever you get from either one is gravy.

Agreed. Stingley worries me because of injuries but there is no denying his talent. Booth and McDuffie and even Elam are difference makers.
