***** The Rooneys

There is no I in tread.

While I don't agree with much of what is going on with the team right now this is a ridiculous way to express it.

The most recent Tomlin extension was bullshit, as a coach should at least have won a playoff game within a few years of signing such a contract.

I'm honestly hesitant to criticize the Rooney's, given their history, but it is important to remember that most of the franchise's glory was achieved with Dan either in charge or in a prominent role.

He's long gone, and I do not get the same "it's going to be all right" vibe from Art II.

The posts have been epic today!
Well,I guess it is basically the start of the offseason.

This team will never win another SB as long as Tomlin is a coach of the team.

He’s a smooth talker and that’s it
I call your SB win and raise you a "Never gets to a SB with Tomlin as head coach".

Well, if he (Tomlin) wins one more game it will be more of the 'never had a losing season' BS for the rest of the offseason.

It's a shame a proud franchise like the Steelers which measured it's success by Playoff wins and Super Bowls now put's so much weight on regular season success.

Anyway, Art II will never fire Tomlin. I honestly wonder if Rooney is waiting for the media (both local and national) and fan base to lay it down hard on Tomlin in hopes that he'll resign willingly. Who knows at this point what Artie is thinking. I would have thought the Rooney's would have seen enough of Tomlin's work to start the search for the next HC. But maybe that's because Colbert has no idea who he'd even go after for HC. Maybe Tomlin and Colbert should be walked out the door hand-in-hand, because Colbert deserves just as much blame as Tomlin for the current state of the team.

I would not be surprised if the entire coaching staff returns intact, minus OL coach Klemm who we know is leaving. Rooney will put up with bad coaches rather than pay people not to work.
I think they will want to see how Canada does with a different QB next year.
If Tomlin fires Butler that's like admitting that Tomlin's defense is bad. So that won't happen. Any decent DC will want to run his own defense and Tomlin will have none of that, therefore that won't happen either.
Unfortunately they gave Tomlin an extension and he has two or three years left, so he's not going anywhere as long as he's under contract.
The only coach they've fired in recent years who was still under contract was Joey Porter and that was more for his off-the-field issues than his coaching. Everyone else they just wait for their contracts to expire.

I call your "Never gets to a SB" and raise you a "Never wins a first round playoff game".
Unfortunately this is probably accurate. At least with their repetitive fails off-seasons.

Sure rooneys can see the writing in the wall, they dint want to lose their fan base and as faithful as they have been to their head coaches it's also true that tomlin has probably completed a cycle and a fresh start with another coach in the search for the new franchise QB should be ideal.

Despite the bad drafting sometimes, there are core players set in both O and D:
Harris + freiermuth + Claypool + DJ is a young group of skill position players that could thrive with a decent Oline and a good QB
Watt + Minkah are the sure things but Highsmith, Witherspoon and even Sutton at nickel can be good team players and hopefully Heyward has a couple of years left in the tank to lead them.

Invest first and foremost in the trenches, then the following year get your franchise QB

There are currently three black head coaches in the NFL. Don’t count on the Rooney Rule Rooney’s to fire Tomlin anytime soon if ever. They’ve always put the interest of the NFL above the team. It would be terrible optics if they fired Tomlin after his potential first losing season. The Rooney’s care a lot more about that than they do the team’s performance.

I don't get how one thing has to do with the other

It doesn't. It's just stupid.

More accurate is that the Rooney's have been pretty damn successful over the years not panicking and sticking with the head coach. But that isn't any fun...there is no conspiracy there. It has to be more sinister.

Look, I think Art 2 may be wrong in this situation. I think it is time. But I don't think there is anything deeper than what I stated.

I do blame the Rooney's for allowing Tomlin to stay in place this long. His standard is not our standard. He should be fired with no reservations.
