Its that time again, once every four years we get to see who's best at faking injuries drawing yellow/red cards, and who's man enough not to cover up on those free kicks while forming a " wall "

But jokes aside, its a disgrace the USA could not qualify. There are many weaker teams in the World Cup.

No it's a disgrace that Italy didn't make it. They're a top 5 world power. It's disappointing that we didn't make it.

All that aside. Go Germany! Mexico is for real, and should be a quarterfinal team in the knock out round. I wouldn't be surprised it they're a final 4 team.

I love soccer, but man, all the diving and theatrics just ruins it for me. They get tripped or kicked and they dive to the ground like shots were fired, holding their knee, ankle or shin for 10 minutes pretending that it hurts. If they lay on the ground for more than a minute or two they should have to be subbed out for the remainder of the game. That **** slows down an already slow game and just makes it no fun to watch.

I was watching a game a couple of days ago and the team losing by one was putting on a lot of pressure. One of the attackers looked at a defender the wrong way and he went down like he severed a limb then rolled around on the ground for a couple of minutes. It nearly cost his team a goal as they were short a defender and the opposition had a few scoring opportunities.

I work with a few soccer guys and we were talking about this at lunch. The game is too defensive, why not allow substations the way hockey does? As long as there are not too many men on the field, go for it. It won't slow down the game. You'd get more action, I'd guarantee it.

There's so many reasons to dislike the game as others have said, but as a casual fan I gotta say how utterly amazed I am at the level of skill of some of these guys. Watched a dude slide running full speed, cover the ball with one foot, plant the other and raise to standing a' la stealing second base, then pass it off some 30 yards in one move. All that without so much as touching the other team who was dribbling? it between his legs. Literally picked his pocket.

Not many things amaze me, but that was impressive.

World cup is the best soccer on the planet. Better than the country leagues or champions league.

Though they could get rid of diving with rule changes.

When a player goes down, you can immediately substitute, or that player must leave the field for 5 minutes and they are playing a man down.

They also need to go to stoppage time. The extra time is just stupid. Score a goal, stop the clock, injuries, stop the clock, substitute? stop the clock. Make the clock mean something.

The skill level has gone up, the problem remains the rules of the game limit the skills that can be shown.

Limit off sides to a certain distance.

Limit the clock stoppage for players faking injures. This is shameful. Allow a team time out once they get the ball back or the whistle blows.

Allow substitution to keep guys fresh, the way Hockey does. Then you'll see more energy for action.

Right now too many games are 78-79 minutes of foreplay, 2 minutes of *** More action is needed.

The arbitrary extra time is so dumb. They'll list it at 5 minutes yet you know the ref isn't blowing that whistle until the scoring threat is over.

Yep. In hockey there is an answer to that - 2 minute penalty for diving. :)

The end of that Germany match is one of the best games I've seen!

yeah, but if soccer didn't suck, no one would care at all.

Soccer isn't bad if you only watch the last 5 minutes.

I have tried to watch a little of the World Cup. It has been pretty boring with some bright spots. Yerry Mina's header for Columbia was one of the sweetest plays of the tourney so far.

That’s what I do for the NBA if ever watch a gsne

Sent from my iPhone using Steeler Nation mobile app

The last 5 minutes of an NBA game lasts a half hour. No thanks!

If you have trouble getting excited, I suggest watching the games on Telemundo. The app is free for Telemundo Deportes, if you cut the cord. The passion of the announcers get me into the game, even if I only understand every 4th word. Watching American announcers, they treat the game like baseball or golf. Talking about anything but the game, until a set play or a goal.

I will also add that I only watch the world cup. I think the leagues are dumb, watching the same teams win every year, regardless of the leagues. No Salary cap, buy whoever they want. On the world stage, the best have to step up and play hard, unless you're Messi, then you fold like a player holding 2-7 in poker...

Only in soccer is 1-0 difficult to overcome.

So much for the Ronaldo-Messi matchup in the second round.

Russia! Russia! Russia!

Russia beats Spain 4-3 on penalty kicks to reach qtr finals!

With all these game settled by a shoot our or just one goal, you can argue the ref in soccer can swing a game as quickly as any sport.

I find it hilarious with these guys trying to fake injures, as soon as they realize they won't draw a card, they are up and running again...

Buncha floppers

Start reviewing phantom flops, if someone drops like they are shot from no contact, or a brush of skin, they get a red card. That would clean up that **** real quick.

Sadly I think that the winner is coming from the France vs Belgium semi-final.
