There's a 50% chance!

If you art who are your candidates to replace, Last i read UM is working on an extension with Harbaugh, outside that, I think its very small 3-5 candiate who can be considsered HC material
- Kliff
-Titans DC Shane Bowen, 36
-Bengals OC Brian Callahan, 39: A former UCLA walk-on QB and the son of longtime NFL coach Bill Callahan, Brian has paved his own path in the NFL, starting in Denver, where he forged a close relationship with Peyton Manning and was part of the Super Bowl 50-winning team as an offensive assistant. Zac Taylor, who brought Callahan to Cincinnati in 2019, calls the plays for the Bengals. That said, Callahan works in tandem with Taylor to build the game plan each week, showing a consistent ability to adapt and put players in position to succeed in different ways, regardless of injuries. Callahan's had three head coaching interviews over the past two offseasons: in 2022 with the Broncos, and this past winter with the Colts (who spoke with him twice) and Cardinals.
-Eagles DC Sean Desai, 40: An 11th-year NFL coaching veteran, Desai took over the Eagles' defense after Jonathan Gannon left for Arizona following Super Bowl LVII in February. Moving parts up the middle and in the secondary has created challenges this season, but the unit should continue to improve as the campaign plays out. Desai has learned from some of football's best defensive minds, including Vic Fangio and Pete Carroll, as well as different types of leaders, equipping him to understand what it takes to win from an organizational perspective. Four other teams interviewed Desai for DC jobs before he landed in Philly this past offseason.
- Flores younger version of MT, is more aggressive on D, and I think if in charge of the team would veto or flipp Austin's calls.

I just can't see it. But, if they lose out or even lose 3 of their last 4, I think Rooney has to be at least thinking about moving on and what that would look like. He has to. Doesn't he?

Here again, Rooney is a lot smarter than many here give him credit for. He has been whittling on this all season long, hell it’s the future of his $$$BILLION +$$$ business.

This isn’t just something that Art 2 stands up, after Saturday morning cartoons, and says today I will do something (not directed towards you at all TDX27).

Art 2 and ”family” have been discussing this for some time now, even though they are slower to react than most here want. The state of the team is more likely than not, a continuous conversation amongst them. That is what continuously makes them a premiere franchise.

Art 2 does have a decision coming forth and what ever they decide (favorable to the fan or not) will be the best in their point of view.

My Take:

I’m thinking that Coach Tomlin’s HOT SEAT has begun to heat up, internally because that is the only place it matters. Our Fandom has no bearing on internal decisions. I think there is a chance, albeit quite possible 50-50 that he is gone, but yet to be determined on how this team plays out the rest of the season. It isn’t just the play of the players but also the note of the coaching performance as well.

Continual ill preparedness and coaching fails, will definately tip the scales in possible replacement.

Should the team manage to make the playoffs, and even the most skeptic would have to admit, that would be a H-U-G-E coaching success and add in a “WIN”, epic success. This would ensure a coaching continualization.

The most we can do as fans, is to patiently wait and see, the most unpopular thing FAN’s want to hear.

I think losing 3 or all 4 of the final 4 games would get them close but what would push things over the edge may be if they truly believe he has finally lost the locker room. I have seen some say he has but I'm not buying it. He may lose the players but to me, they are still buying into what he is selling.

It seems reasonable that after Tomlin fails this year, Art II will just say "only one non-losing season and I fire him?" He won't. He'll keep him on one more year, and maybe even extend him just to prove that he stands by his guy.

We've all seen this play out before, and what happens, he gets extended. I don't see anything different happening this time.
Unless it's Tomlins decision to walk away, he'll be back with 4 more years of .500 football to pass Noll in the win column.
The extra 3 games each season add up.

I honestly believe Tomlin will get an extension at some point. And then get the Steelers alltime most win record. As a few above have stated.

ARII can look at this a few ways.

1. Give Tomlin and extension because of his consistency and one below .500 year isn’t enough to move on a coach. Business as usual.

2. The same as above thinking he can navigate through this with major changes to his staff. Basically, a short extension and notice there is a hot seat.

3. Move on from Tomlin because it would be 7 years without a playoff win and no faith he can navigate a rebuild. Based on what we’ve seen, he did not know how to set up a young QB for success and has completely mismanaged the situation.

If they extend him this offseason, don't bring in from the outside a new OC&DC. That will probably be it for me as far as time investment watching this **** show. I already know the ending.

If you're looking at the whole staff, I these are the coaches who should be on the hot seat:

HC Tomlin
-The Steelers are on the verge of going a 7th straight season without a playoff win and likely only 4 seasons with a playoff win in 17 coached by Tomlin. We've also seen poor management and development of a 1st-round QB. Then there is the lack of accountability, depending on veterans to handle their business when that clearly isn't working since there's no veteran leadership in the locker room so you have guys, as Minkah put it, expecting to win because they wear the black and gold. Is there any confidence to navigate a rebuild?

OC - already gone
-Canada was already fired.

QB - Sullivan/Corley
-Pickett has regressed. Mitch is a turnover machine when he's in there and has bad mechanics. More than anything, the QBs don't always look like they know where the play should go.

OL - Meyer/Williams
-I mean, come on.

WR - Jackson
-Diontae and Pickens don't give full effort. They haven't gone full diva mode, but aren't playing consistently. Calvin Austin has done nothing.

TE - Roberts
-Mainly for the blocking. Even Darnell Washington, who I expected to be a dominant blocker, looks lost at times.

DC - Austin
-Keeping Austin only to allow Flores to leave was tough. I don't know if Flores wanted to stay, but in the NFL sometimes you need to make tough choices.

Coaches I think have done well include Faulkner with the RBs on the offensive side. Karl Dunbar does well with the DL and has Benton playing excellent for a rookie. Aaron Curry took a bunch of FAs and made them work at ILB. The OLB coaches helped integrate Golden and Herbig is playing great for the few snaps he gets. The DBs have done pretty well for the most part given that positional group has the weakest talent on the team, IMO.

Yinz probably considered this but the main issue that deters Rooney from a coaching change is not about wins and losses but about maintaining tradition and reputation.

The Steelers stand out from the rest in a few ways...from the only team with the logo on one side of the helmet to the first to win 4 Super Bowls, the greatest team ever assembled winning 4 SB's in 6 years, winningest team since the league formed in 1970, and only 3 head coaches since 1970.

ONLY 3 head coaches since 1970! Wow! Amazing! Unprecedented! Stability is part of the reason the Steelers win! A class organization!

Only 4 head coaches since 1970 and those accolades will vanish, or at best diminish greatly. That is what is disturbing to Mr. Rooney.

Remember Cowher left with a year remaining on his contract, ostensibly because they couldn’t agree on an extension. My take at the time was that he simply didn’t want to coach any more so he asked for more than he knew the Rooneys would pay. I can see a similar scenario.

Deuce: “Mike, we’re going to extend you for the average salary of other coaches who haven’t won a playoff game in seven years.”

Shades: “**** you, I quit.”

With the team's history of loyalty there is no way they fire or trade a coach with a 17 year tenure unless he requests it. The best we could hope for is no new contract.

Something has to give since Tomlin only has one year left on his contract. They either have to move on (unlikely) or extend his contract (likely).

The only way I see him not being on the sideline next year is if he's told he won't be extended and he decides he doesn't want to be a lame duck coach. My gut feeling, and it makes me sick, is that he will be here as long as he wants to be.
