Read the kicker could be involved in more then 20 percent of tackles on kickoff. How the **** is Bos going to tackle someone. The NFL constantly tries to fix **** by making it worse.

Definitely want to have a 2nd kicker protected on the PS

Kickers take a lot of **** for not being "real" football players, so this is their chance at validation.

So then opening kickoff he goes downfield gets wiped out and you proceed in the game how? I always go by this when assessing a new rule or issue. How would this look if it decided a SB. I think in this case galactically stupid.

I was mostly being facetious.

I don't like the rule for various reasons, but it's what they're going to do whether we like or it or not.

The league clearly wants more potential for kickoff returns without jeopardizing safety.

Some have proposed allowing the kicker to be a 12th player on the field who is ineligible to make a tackle, but that may be too convoluted of an option.

Personally, they should probably just do away with kickoffs at this point. It's not like the league values tradition much in other on-field considerations.

I agree. Kicker kicks ball exits field. Sp teamer stands next to him and leaves when rule allows. Having 170 lb sorta athletes try to tackle a guy who is basically a jungle cat is pretty ****** dumb all around.

a designated hitter is needed... Kicker kicks and walks off the field... Designated hitter runs down for tackles.

We currently have a 2nd kicker (Wright) on the team in TC.

If he is put on the practice squad, alls any team has to do is sign him and activate. No value in that.

There was talk of trading him to Detroit (their kicker is out), for a 7th. I say take what you can get because once season starts you will get nothing.

Hey the Olympics is allowing dudes to fight women, nothing screwed up there. I mean, come on. But it's how the dude "felt" so you have to let him be her.

No, what they need to do is require KO’s to be kicked by a OL or DL. Any XP or FG attempts can be done by a kicker.

You can protect a limited number of players on the PS from poaching.

Nobody wants the kicker injured. I would start teaching LBs and Dbs to kick. Nobody can move until the return man touches the ball. That means hang time means nothing. You just need a guy to kick it into the landing zone.

They are allowing a 12th player on the field to hold but then not be involved in the play. Why not allow a 12th player and the kicker has to go off the field right after the kick?

Why not allow the kicker off and the holder stays?

Letting the kicker run off makes sense, but the more i think about it. Why kick at all? Why not just have the ref hand the ball to the returner, then blow a whistle and everybody runs.

The “game” is finding ways to be less and less, sad really.!

It’s not unheard of for a highschool kicker to kick off into the endzone. Can they not find a reserve position player that can handle the revised shorter kickoffs?

Kicker = 20% of the tackles
Other 10 guys = 80% of the tackles

So the kicker will out tackle everyone else on the coverage team?

Odd math on that one....Why would the kicker head down field immediately?

Were these statistics taken from the USFL when they were using this KO method?

Did the kicker even get one tackle in that HOF game? Looked like the return guy didn’t have any chance for a return.

NOTE: I didn’t watch the game but seen replays and McAfee had a great segment on it as well.

One of my best friends in high school would brag about his punts. How he was averaging all but 40 yards per.....Comparing it to the NFL. Difference was his were all but line drives and the NFL punters went a tad bit higher for a tad bit more hang time.

Hang time on kickoffs no longer matters.

I'm just saying what was reported. And Im saying involved in. Not solo. I think the issue us he heads to the ball. If there is a crack in coverage not much left.
