Things that need to be improved in the offseason to go further in next years playoffs

Reality check: No team would give up a No. 1 for Pouncey.

And, with his injury history, a No. 2 is unlikely also.

Wait? Coates had one reception before today's game and he's ready to replace Wheaton already?

We didn't see our 2nd round CB at all this season, so that'll be like an extra draft pick.
We need our OLB's to beat their man one v one more often, but we need to address our secondary still.

A big, fast, Physical corner in the draft. The young line backers need to get with the Deebo strength and conditioning program, Particularly Jarvis Jones. The D needs to work on tackling and the O needs to work on ball security/fumble prevention.

Jarvis should be packaged out on a trade for a pick. I'd consider trading pouncy for a pick too. Find a hungry lb in the draft. Jarvis just goes through the motions. Wallace is ok at center. Pouncy is expensive. Dump his salary. Put it to use elsewhere.

Wheaton might draw some interest for a pick as well. Coates can fill that spot.

Retooling is what teams do. Jarvis isn't cutting it. Pouncy was good, but injured twice. Need durability at the position.

There is no point in dumping salary, at least dumping it with what many of you have in mind. The Steelers will not dump guys and then spend big in FA. They just won't do it.

I thought they are better going into this offseason than they have been in a while because they got some dead money off the books. Anyway, I would like to see them get a solid corner or safety in FA. maybe someone on the DL that they may have more confidence in to spell Heyward and Tuitt. They should have the money for that and to pay who they want of their own.

Lastly, I always get a kick out of people who think the Steelers will get picks for guys that they have decided are expendable. "Trade Pouncey for a 1st!" Yea, but you just said he was expendable with a high salary. The rest of the NFL doesn't know that? "Coates, with his huge numbers, can just push Wheaton out the door. We oughta be able to get a big pick for a guy pushed out the door by a guy with 3 catches."

Think.

The 2016 off season starts today

And to kick it off, I have two initial comments.

1 ) Our 2016 schedule seems to be on the easy side. Playing the NFC East helps. We have too much talent not to be 10-6 or better next year.

2 ) CB, S, and OLB should be targets in free agency and the draft, Retaining Gay is a must.

yeah I think if you want to trade him it has to be in a "healthy " year.

True and one for the rotation as I am thinking Harrison won't be back.

Never forget as per George Carlin, "The average American is NOT average!"

Jarvis improved in two out of three areas. Don't we want to add to the D and not take away from it? I am for dumping our dead weight but not players that bring something positive.

2 Backup RB - Two years without high end talent at the position. In the playoffs you have to run effectively, I wouldn't be upset drafting a RB in 1 if he was BPA.

Whaaaat? You cannot use a 1st round pick for a 3rd string player you might need due to injury. That's preposterous!

Yeah maybe

but the Steelers could rotate a RB in and keep Bell and Williams fresher....

And if both go down again. (not out of the realm of possibility for two backs that have been hurt two years in a row}.It would be whewwwww

well at least we have _____________.

I am not saying take a RB in one if things are equal.... Like a equal talent at OLB or CB or S.

But if you have that RB rated a significant degree higher than the rest, I think you take him.

The only real thing that needs shored up for next year is the secondary. We have a good backup QB in Gradkowski (everyone seems to have forgotten him) who missed the entire year. Jones will move back to No. 3. RB is set with Bell, DW, Fitz and Todman. WR is set. O line is pretty much set other than some back up players. D line might need a backup player. LB's should be set and I bring Deebo back. Secondary needs a player or two. Punter may need replaced. Boz is our kicker. TE may need addressed. I love Heath but he had a lot of drops this year. Spaeth needs to go and Jesse James needs more playing time. He can block and catch.

I believe Bell's contract is due for negotiation this offseason. Sign the man. We may get a discount if he is still hobbled by the injury at all but sign him. AB will get another bonus and they will look to sign him long term after next season. I think Wheaton is due for a contract this year or next. With Bryant in 2 years. Would love to keep both. Would love to keep Bryant. Not sure how those 2 will shake out. Bell and AB are must signs. Ben has 2 to 3 good years left and we need all of the talent around him as possible if we want to get another ring or even 2.

Everybody knows we won't get a first round pick for pouncey. Maybe a 3rd. Maybe a 5th for wheaton. Maybe a 5th for jarvis.

If this team needs retooled we need to bring guys in. Using the same players will likely yield the same results.

Our d was weak in early season. Jarvis is barely noticeable out there. Wallace did ok in place of pouncey. Harrison will be 38 next year. Spaeth is invisible. Heath is old.

I bet we could get a late 3rd for Wheaton. I'd strongly consider it.

I first off before anything lock up AB for a few more years.

Now i am interested in some draft info... we are picking 25th... BPA territorry... Idont care if we have no CBs, we cant afford to reach here... If a top tier one isnt there for us, then BPA, be it S, TE, RB, OLB, even OL... Hell if there is a stud at QB im fine with that... the only two positions we should be trading down if they are all that is left is WR and ILB

Gradkowski is probably done for good.... that shoulder injury he was trying to play through was really bad before the finger thing... Im betting he never plays again.

Bear in Mind that its likely that the Browns may be trading Alex Mack and Joe Thomas... Packaging Pouncey with a low pick for them may make sense, if the cap will work... This would give Villenueva a few years to really get that technique down and all but ensure Bens final years are well protected... Thomas is 31, Mack 30... pouncey is only 26. The Browns get the longetivity and stability of an all pro center in his prime. The steelers sacrifice some athleticism at Center for an upgrade at Tackle...
