Time for Pickens to Shine

Pickens has all the God given talent needed to excel...

I just have a slight concern about the matter between his ears and being mature enough to handle being a pro...

His on the field and sideline body language concerns me....

Yeah, those "tantrums" give me concern, too. You'd think good coaching would constrain that, and coach him up, teaching the proper way of handling adversity.

("Good coaching".... )

Did he have the same issues at UGA?

Maybe I just haven't seen it yet, but Claypool had a monster rookie season
and Claypool wasnt doing much this season, either.
he was playing with more determination and fire than previously, I'll give him that.

Pickens won't be jumping for balls that he has no business jumping for. Nor will he wind up on the ground on every play.

Anyone else think the problem with our receivers and our offense is the route tree is more of just a twig?
seems Canada's routes are basically just spirals, with the hopes that the DB gets dizzy chasing the WR.

I think George will be fine now that Claypuff has departed for the murder capital of the nation.
I’d like to see Pickens in some crossing patterns, hitting him in stride on intermediate routes, and most definitely more deep balls,
Hopefully Steven Sims can slide into the slot and now use Freirmuth and Gentry more.

Nfl route trees are usually extremely complicated based on reads… one thing I will say about Claypool is that he always ran himself and others into coverage running bad routes… so perhaps that was the reason tgey wanted to move on from him… heaven forbid they teach a talented dude to run better routes… like we used to

Maybe now that Claypool is gone, Pickens can get better exposure to the left of Kenny (hopefully they will teach him to look right before next season), and Johnson can run routes that are North, East or West, rather than the 5 yard comebacks to the South that he has fallen habit to.

I still fail to see how Claypool, who was mostly in the slot, was blocking Pickens… I feel like all this move is going to get is more Sims and Gunner routes… it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see more Boykin over Pickens because I am really stating to fear we are that obtuse….

It's actually time for Sims to shine, since he is likely to get more of Claypools targets. If he breaks a couple, he could help move defenders back and open up the offense.

Right? WTF is that maneuver?

The 6'4" slot receiver is jumping up while simultaneously low-pointing the ball and falling down. I'd seen enough after a few of those. Granted, his last two games were big improvements over last season...thanks for that Rd #2 pick Chi-town.

I wouldn't be thanking anyone for a draft pick until after we see what flyer the Steelers use the pick on - a 5th-round guy they had a round 2 grade on.

I like Sims, and I wanted them to use him last year instead of Ray Ray… we will see of he gets a legit shot or if it ends up being gunner .. Tomlin loves the Wes Welker wannabes lol

Just throwing this up here…

Traded Claypool because he wasn’t developing or was a distraction or something
Traded Holmes cause he was a locker room distraction
Traded Martavis because he was a distraction
Traded AB because he was a distraction
Traded Sammie Coates cause he wasn’t developing
To a lesser extent, Didn’t resign Mike Wallace because he never developed past a one trick pony

Two other drafted good receivers immediately trashed the Steelers for among other things lack of development after leaving as free agents …

Our wr history the last decade or so has been tumultuous at best..

This coaching staff doesn't understand what a slot receiver is to begin with. The last time we had anything close to a true slot WR was when we would move Brown all over the field.

Since then, they have just shoved anyone they have into the slot. They wasted Juju there, then misplaced Claypool there. Honestly the best guy on the roster for the slot is DJ. He's quick, runs great routes, can get guys turned around easily on the outside. Imagine him on the inside when he can literally go either way.

They way they currently think of the slot, might as well throw Muth out there.

Its the organization, the front office and the coaching staff that were mainly the problem, not the WR

Going back to 2008 we hate using the middle of the field… they want a big body there because they are petrified of turnovers

Add in that using the middle of the field also makes defenders have to gaurd against it thus lessening the swam coverage we've been getting.

It' not rocket science, watch what every other team in the NFL is doing and copy-cat it add ing a small twist here and there.

Our scheme isn't fooling anyone and hasn't produced didxdly squat It's more than just O'Canada holding back this team.

Some want to say it's BEN's fault for not retiring sooner but we definately know better than that. This OL isn't a new problem and hasn't been addressed pro-actively in years. Seems like this HC is RE-active and NOT PRO-active. With BEN not here to cover up the worts, things show through.

Salute the nation
