So looking at this team and ALL the problems I started to wonder is it time to clean house? There's plenty of blame to go around with the defense not being able to get to the QB, secondary not getting turn overs, and everyone committing stupid penalties. Offensive line not giving our QB time or opening holes in the running game, dropped passes, and again stupid penalties. Coaching staff not having the team ready to play and not able to make adjustments during the game. Front office drafting poorly and giving extensions to players not deserving i.e. Gilbert and Allen while letting better players sign elsewhere. Is enough, enough and time to dump the GM, coaching staff, and cut the fat on the roster or do you really think the people in power can correct the problems?

These knee-jerk threads are becoming comical.

Yesterday was a punch in the gut loss. Alas, we are still 2-2, and despite what many would like to think- the team could improve as the season progresses. Who knows?

Do you realize that by blowing it up, there is a chance that you have to endure at least 3 years of suckage (at least)?! Hell, some of you were about to jump bridges because we only beat the Browns by 3!

How about we just sit back and see what we have. Because like it or not, this team is still in transition. Lets see if this team actually improves- because that is much easier than hitting the reset button.

It's actually long overdue. I'd start with Colbert and Tomlin. Take the Pittsburgh Penguin model and get a new perspective on-board. Start your search now and have your candidates on speed dial when the time is right. The Rooneys should know when that is. They should know by now that fans are frustrated and embarrassed. 125 yards in penalties and a loss to the Buccs at home cannot be acceptable.

1). Discipline
The team has NO discipline. None. That is on Tomlin. How many 15-yard penalties, 6? Going to the ground during a TD celebration? If a coach has control over a team and they are disciplined, they KNOW NOT TO GO TO THE GROUND when celebrating. They know that there will be punishment from the coach. But this team is undisciplined, and they know there will be no consequences for their actions.

2). Troy seems done -- lets get Shamarko in there.

We lack a head coach. We have already sucked for two years, so maybe this is the last year before Mr Tomlin starts doing his job and provides some leadership and direction to the team.

Yeah, thats it. Thats the ticket.

Yeah, "sit back" until season's end, then we can send mr. platitudes on his merry way (I pray)

We are currently in our 3rd year of suckage with no sign of change. Hell, what's another 3 years? At least we will have hit the reset button and won't have such high expectations and the associated frustration that comes with it.

People said the same thing 2 years ago. They were in "transition" then as well. It's always easy to just sit back and let 8-8 happen every year. There is always a "transition" going on. There is always a draft class that we're waiting on. It never ends. If you wait much longer then you'll have no QB because Ben only has a few years left.

Also why does blowing it up mean 3 years of suckage? We've endured 2 1/4 years of suckage doing it your way. Seattle didn't have 3 years of suckage and I think the Steelers are every bit as good as the Seahawks. And they even had to find a QB. The Steelers already have 2 good RBs, a franchise QB, a great WR and a very good TE. The shelves aren't empty.

Four months of football. The month has us at 2-2. Much more to be played, we'll see what happens. The Steelers aren't sending anyone away at this point, not their style. I'm sure after the season is over they will reassess the team and make the appropriate changes. Last year we were 0-4 for September....but I agree we should've never lost to Tampa Bay.

How did this fanbase become so spoiled:

1998 Pittsburgh Steelers: 7-9 No playoffs
1999 Pittsburgh Steelers: 6-10 No playoffs
2000 Pittsburgh Steelers: 9-7 No playoffs

Why are we pretending as if this franchise is immune to lulls? Why should we blow this team up this time around?

The only coach I could imagine bringing in would be Bob Stoops from Oklahoma.
But I can't begin to imagine the media uproar that would ensue.

And Cowher didn't have platitudes? How's that "fine line"?

Every coach has them. Four games into the season, Bill O'Brien has a bunch - "very coachable guy"...."need to work harder," etc. But, at 3-1, they're not as annoying.

Most salient point: Lots of football to be played.

Yesterday was a terrible game, and I think blame could be spread all around- from Tomlin all the way down to Brad Wing and Suisham. Still, I have idea what kind of team we have- neither does anyone here. So to discuss 'blowing up' is somewhat silly at this point.

Good/great coaches puts their stamp on their team. Realistically, what is the identity of this team right now? What was it last year? Right now, it has an undisciplined, chaos, me-first make-up. Cleveland came back on them from being down by 21. The only good team we played, their ***** were handed to them. CAR proved to be in-shambles and we know what happened yesterday with a winless team. We already brought back Keisel and Harrison. Two "old guys" that they were trying to get away from, but due to bad drafting, injuries and shotty development, we begged them back, one out of retirement.
Sure, I'll sit back and be thankful hockey is starting, because I know what to expect from the Steelers.

My 5 reasons in order:
1) The front office / Tomlin. This team lacks talent on D. Example; There are no impact players on D. Zero. Not even one.
2) This team is dumb and plays dumb. Seriously ******* stupid players on this team. Example: Penalties. Pot smoking. Missing assignments. General dumbfuckery.
3) The D coordinator is calling plays as if it was 1990 and he is pretending that we have pass rushers and DBs that can cover.
4) The O coordinator is seriously bipolar.
5) We like to give big contracts to players that are mid-tier. Example: Why tie up 8mil in Worilds?

Oh shut it, you know damn well what I'm talking about. Tomlin is far and away the biggest schmuck in the league when it comes to filling a press conference with a whole bunch of pretty words that mean little

Stats without context. In 1998-1999 you had a power struggle with Cowher and Donahoe. The team had no franchise QB. They were trying to scrap by with Kordell Stewart. Remember, despite the revisionist history, everyone wanted Kordell to play QB. They drafted him high to play QB. The owner said that he wanted Heinz field to be called the "house that Kordell built".

This team has none of those issues and has a franchise QB. To think they are even remotely similar is just to be blind to the issues on this team.

Have you considered that maybe it appears that way because you listen to more Tomlin pressers than you do, say, Mike Smith or Jim Harbaughs (for example)?

Vader beat me to it.

In the context of the organization and potential overhaul, I think one needs to assess the variable of Roethlisberger and whether he and the Steelers part ways after next season. I think the prospect of that is much stronger than much of the fan base cares to admit.

If I'm Roethlisberger, assuming this season ends up being what it looks like (another non playoff dud), there's no way I sign a new contract, especially with a loyalty discount, with the Steelers unless Tomlin's *** is canned.

He'd be a fool to voluntarily take less money to have his remaining prime years wasted by that incompetent cliche machine running things.

We know he's frustrated, which we see signs of just about every Sunday, and the prospect of reuniting with his friend and golfing buddy in Bruce Arians is out there.

If the Rooney's both short change him relative to his market value AND stubbornly stick with Tomlin (both strong possibilities), I can see Roethlisberger saying, "**** it. If you want to tag me and pay me 23mil in 2016, be my guest. If not, wifey and I are preparing to scout some Arizona property."

Those media sessions are designed for the coaches to say as little as possible.

Tomlin just takes longer to say it (and repeats himself).

I don't think we fire Colbert, Tomlin, Haley, LeBeau or cut TP or Ike tomorrow. But I like what tsc is saying. Take the wait and see approach BUT be proactive now keeping an eye on innovating young coaches, front office people who have been on teams that seem to draft well and get some info on who is doing what in that organization. If things go like they seem to be going I assuming we are 4-4 after we beat Jax and cleveland (hope cleveland) and we get beat by Houston and Indy. Then comes the slide I believe where we go 2-6 the second half and that is probably the end of the Tomlin and Colbert era.

And I doubt a new regime goes thru a three year sucking period. If you keep Ben, Bell, and Brown you already have a nice core of offensive talent even though Ben is getting older you keep a franchise QB. Then on defense Shazier has looked good and I really like Shamarko Thomas, in fact I think we might be better off with him in over TP which is sad for me to say. Heyward has been impressive the last couple of games so we have a few good young players on defense also. If you look at what a good innovating coach can do it does not take three years to rebuild. Look at the Eagles with Chip Kelly 3-1 and the only reason they didn't win against the '9ers was a bad call, Houston with Bill O'Brien are 3-1 with god awful QBs and no running game and the #1 overall pick out and taking over a 2-14 team. Mike McCoy and and Tom Telesco with the Chargers IMHO would be the closest example of what a new head and GM could do for us. They took to a large extent a veteran QB and surrounded him with young talent that fits the system and bam you have a pretty good team that even though has a ton of injuries this year are still winning tough football games. I just have a feeling if we got the right GM and an innovating head coach we would be right back in the mix in the AFC North.

We can't shake the past we look just like the 98,99,2000 teams. Identical. Outside backers that can't get to qb, secondary giving up big plays. Crapping offense. Thing is that era had a better offensive line. Our line is the real problem and it could bring down the team and everyone in the front office with it.
