Time to move on from “Drops” Johnson

Literally i can compare his stats to a couple of guys who just got a first back last year… route runners are a hot commodity right now too… give him to an OC that uses routes to pull people open and he is a huge weapon
Provided he runs the right route, which is a problem for him at times.

How about "Drop-a-Day" Johnson?

I cannot believe the guy is still running backwards after the catch. It defies logic that his coaches apparently have not addressed this issue.
They are enamored with the POSSIBILITY that he gets away, once in a blue moon.

He's not consistent except with the drops. I don't think he's worth the money.

Pickett had one catch for 2 yards. They ran the ball great and Muth had a big day. Do the math on dumping DJ.
How many times was Pickens targeted
Short of that 2 yard curl they ran him to get a catch I remember 1 KP over throw to him

Pickett was trying to force action DJs way
For whatever reason. Seemed like he was only completing about 50% thrown his way too

The math I’m more interested in us DJ’s drop % and his fumble % cuz they both seem way too high for his salary

How many more fumbles than TDs this year would be some more interesting DJ math

I wouldn’t put DJ anywhere near the top of the list as to why we won that game, like you said ran great (Najee actually had a little fire in him) and Muth played well again.

He CONTINUES to drop passes at critical times, and has since he was drafted.

I’m sorry it hurts to hear this about your cousin/brother/lover etc….
It's usually the guy who makes that type of comment who secretly bites the pillow. But whatever.
If we are going to critique play in the win why stop at Johnson. How about the Swiss cheese run defense that couldn't stop the run if it's life depended on it.

How is the OC responsible for a highly paid WR dropping the ball CONSTANTLY?

I like the way you chopped up my post and only attacked 1 part of it, but yes Johnson is 100% responsible for his drops

Johnson is 1 of many underpreforming young players on one of the worst offenses in the league and in team history, maybe
It's time to find someone who can get more out of all the high draft picks and big contracts we've invested, unless you're advocating to cut half the offensive players and eat their contracts

Nothing against DJ. I would personally prefer to allocate any WR money on a second contract to both Lines. I would prefer we run first and stop the run.

Totally agreed. The OC us responsible for the God awful play calling without players in the middle , use of rb in pass game and red zone joke. He is not responsible for DJs two drops.

The Ref's reversed a rare red flag. They say it was not a catch. I'd sort of agree, but one thing is clear, we were lucky they did!

I threw out a trade with the Packers for their 2nd round pick after the season. Watson is playing decent so the need for a WR has cooled. But they are in a win now mode so having a veteran like DJ would still be appealing. It hurts our depth not having Claypool and DJ and would put a lot on pressure on Pickens. But it is a pretty deep draft class so using one of those seconds on a WR like Marvin Mims Jr, Rashee Rice or Josh Downs fills the void in a season or two.

if that fumble had held up, that would have been the 11th of his career.
seems high

but 5 of those were from his rookie season.

i used to defend DJ. no more. if we can move him, we should.

should have kept Juju

If Tank Dell comes out from UH he should be DJ's replacement
Two good years of production. We will need your scouting report of him to proceed.

Read the Bucs fiancee thread. Thought about it for a while and,

Hot take: Steelers are in this position because of Burfict. Change my mind.

just saw that he announced today that he will be entering the draft

I will have to provide a write up when I do my Coog Pimping thread, but a quick version is he is similar to DJ but without the drops

he runs great routes and will find the open spot. He fights for the ball and more than once had to switch and play DB on badly thrown balls and knocked the ball away from the defender.

He returned 3 punts for TDs but had two called back for penalties not even near the play

I will give more details after a few more highlight videos

there was no red flag

all turnovers are automatically reviewed

Oh right, silly me giving Tomlin a compliment. He didn't read flag it. I was in a nosiy crowed bar watching this game. I say it was a catch and fumble. It is close. The NFL usually doesn't reverse such plays as initial called.

what does being in a bar have to do with knowing the rules of the game?

I saw Pickens getting open but he was on the opposite side of the field as KP and KP was typically running for his life so he was throwing it away or to a receiver on his side of the field. Canaduh needs to allow KP to audible to a go route for Pickens if he has man coverage. Big Ben commented on that a couple weeks ago. KP will either go up and get it or get a PI. Not allowing KP to audible is just plain stupid.

Why does everyone want to undervalue our guys? This is his 4th year… he is 26 so he still has several years in his prime left… he averages 56 yards and 5.3 catches per game played… based on production, age and contract you could get a first for him easily… hell with tge barren wr ufa group this season we might have gotten a first for claypool at the draft ( we kind of did anyhow) … he is the (edit-) 17th highest paid wr and that will drop before next year, a good number two guy costs ten million right now… wrs are grossly overvalued right now
Dj is making 18 million per year. Brown was making 19 million per year to put that into perspective. Brown was #1 in the league breaking historic records at the position.
Dj is solid #2 WR getting paid double market value.
