Time yet again for Coolie Pimps the Coogs

yes yes, I know you have all been anxiously waiting for this day so here we go

TE - Tanner Koziol 6'6" 245 (measurement from Senior Bowl)

I know the Steelers likely don't need another TE, but Smith should be gone and baby Heyward is expendable. Tanner in his one season at UH had 74 receptions for 727 yards and 6 TDs. He is an excellent red zone target and will make the contested catches. He runs hard after the catch, not Mt Washington hard, but fights for yardage. He is a willing blocker, likely needsd some coaching on technique but was more than capable blocking at the collegite level. He has been invited to the Combine so we can see how he measures up to the other top TEs out there, but I would expect he is gone before the end of the 3rd round.

CB - Latrell McCutchin Sr 6'1" 185

The Steelers always need corners and this guy would fit in well. Good size and speed (invited to the combine so we can get a good 40 time) Solid cover guy with 39 tackles and 9 PBUs last season. Dropped a couple of INTs so he needs to work on that. Willing tackler who is not afraid of setting the edge or blowing up screens or runs his way. I'm thinking around a 3rd or 4th round pick unless he really blows everyone away at the combine. Played some at safety due to injuries so position flexibilty is a plus

RB - Dean Conners 5'11" 208 (measurements from Shrine Bowl)

Transferred to UH from Rice so he is a smart player. 977 rushing yards on 200 carries and 254 receiving yards on 34 receptions for a total of 9 TDs. Strong inside runner with the abllity to get to the corner also (at least on the college level) Excellent receiver out of the backfield and downfield. Willing blocker and ofter lead the way on runs for the QB. He had a solid showing at the Shrine bowl. Showed quickness and power in the running game and dodged open field tackles on two receptions down the field. He scored a TD with a nice cut back run in short yardage. I'm thinking a 4th to 5th round pick if he is there later than that he is definitely worth a look

WR - Stephon Johnson 6'2" 190

A lisfranc injury cut his season short so he will likely slip deep in the draft. In his limited time he had 275 yards on 13 receptions for 2 TDs with a long of 74 yards. His 2024 stats were underwelming due mainly to subpar QB play. He is a solid route runner with very good hands he has the speed to get deep and is not afraid of contact. He is elusive and will make people miss. Not Tank Dell level elusiveness, but still pretty good He will make the contested catch and was a reliable 3rd down target. I was really hoping he would get a 5th year of eligibility due to his injury but that did not happen. Likely a late round pick or undrafted free agent.
Interesting list of prospects Coolie..
Unfortunately, I think it’s a down year for NFL talent coming out of the university of Houston..
The only player from your list that I have in my top 10 positional rankings is Connor…
Kinda reminds me of a different guy named Connors that used to frequent the south side of Pittsburgh often.
And yes, I know very well what they say about opinions… 😉

you will notice I don't have any going at the top of the draft

curious though, where do you have Koziol? and have you actually watched his game film?

WR Johnson, watching those videos of him.

He looks like he has pretty good body control, able to position himself in favorable “catch” position as well.

yes it sucked that he had his foot injury.

We both know the reality of him ending up here is slim.

If the Tomlin was still here, guys like this would end up on our practice squad.. Taking a risk with the package.

With MM here, we haven’t got any kind of idea what he will do.

These kind of decisions are a part of why this off-season is exciting, the change needed to keep HOPE.

the reality of any of them coming to the Steelers is slim...I know that, but I pimp them anyway.

Connors and Johnson are at the top of my list that I would like in Black and Gold

Yeah, he’s an interesting prospect. Can’t deny his statistics especially his number of receptions last season. However, his very lowaverage per catch led me to try to understand why and it seems fairly obvious.
He reminds me of a lot of Raridon tight end outof Notre Dame… similar size and skill sets. Both of those young men will definitely catch the ball if it’s within a catch radius. Slower footed/Tight windows type receivers. Also, despite his size not a dominant run blocker.
I have them both as a seventh round or free agent type pick up… maybe drafted around the 190 to 200 overall selection range.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Since you asked.. 😁

I thought this was a post about Jennifer Aniston and Salma Hayek and women like that??? I guess they're the wrong cougars.

pretty sure that is low for him

9.8 yards per catch is not very low....especially given his number of receptions. he was used a lot over the middle for quick 1st down catches and has the ability to go up and get the ball if it is a bit over thrown.watch the highlight...at around 5;10 and then 7:20 he goes up and makes a play for the reception While he is not a dominant run blocker (but how many TEs truly are) he is more than adequate

Demarcus Ayer’s sighting

I was watching the 2016 Christmas game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Early in the game, Ayer’s attempted to catch a ball at about 6 yard line. He was PI’d and set ball at 1st and goal. Steelers score and take the lead.

Obviously we went on to win, but it became that very close game.

Hats off to Ayer’s contribution to the win.

he also had a block on Bell's TD run

Gotta add one more guy. left him off initially as he was a traitor that bailed on UH and went to LSU. Love the kids game though so here it goes

Safety - A. J. Haulcy - 6'0" 220
- 74 tackles and 5 ints in 20234 as a Coog and 84 tackles and 3 ints with a forced fumble last season at LSU. He is a hard hitting safety who will break up passes and break receivers He is a hard hitting tackler doesn't miss often. Good instincts but does lack top end speed so could lose out in man on man coverage. I beleive he is likely a mid to late 2nd rounder but could slip to the 3rd round I would definitely take him there

Good draft for safety’s..
Very Good prospect.

I gave him late third early forth grade..and fifth/sixth best safety on board…
