Everybody has us taking this guy so I suppose it's up to the Steelers to unclench their butt cheeks and finally pick a CB

Go Buckeyes

25. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)

Eli Apple, CB, Ohio State Buckeyes

With good length (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) and top-end speed, Apple showed he could turn and run with Notre Dame speedster Will Fuller during the Fiesta Bowl. He's also a strong tackler and run supporter, which are qualities the Steelers value highly in their defensive backs.

"Everybody" doesn't have us taking this piece of fruit.

I've seen mocks with the Steelers taking various players from DE, NT and even a safety. The really intelligent analysts have us taking WJIII out of Houston.

Sometimes I make stuff up

I do like this one - screw the defense, it won't be fixed in a year, we only have Ben to save us, 5 WIDE, *******!!!

25. Pittsburgh Steelers - Josh Doctson (WR, TCU)

The Steelers have one of the best receivers in the game, Antonio Brown, and then a bunch of other guys. Give them a certified No. 2 guy and it might be all the offense needs to be the deepest high-grade roster in the league. Gone are the days of ground-and-pound football. This is a pass-heavy attack and you just have to lean into that. Start an AFC arms race.

Not to mention I haven't seen anything that shows the Steelers have interest in Apple, unless he was one of many interviews at the Combine (which is possible in all likelihood) I haven't seen that they've talked to him, although I could have missed it. If the Steelers bring him in for a visit then I'll believe they're interested, but for now the only first round CBs they've shown interest in are WJ3 and Mac Alexander. They could also be attempting to hide their interest so who knows.

I want to love Apple, but I just don't see a potential lockdown guy.
I see a guy that is good at all facets of being a CB.
I don't see any standout piece of his game.

Someone talk me into it.

This message board only supports WJIII as the Steelers pick at CB

Just from watching a little coverage this week, I'm starting to doubt that Apple will even be there at 25. I get the impression that he is going to be one of those guys who gains late momentum and whose stock rises fast at the last minute. On NFLN yesterday they were speculating on the Giants' selection at #10 overall. Apple was one of the 4 players they listed as likely selections. If he is being viewed anywhere near the 10th selection, he probably won't be there anyway.

William gay is our best corner and it isn't even close

IMHO, as I am an OSU fan and watch all the games - not too impressed with Apple. Not impressive in the same way I was impressed with Heyward or Shazier. But what the hell do I know, he may turn out to be really good.

Agreed , I've read many of them and a few have us taking apple but not everyone. For all we know we will hear.... at number 25 in the first round the Pittsburgh Steelers take Linbacker from........ too predictable for us.

On NFL Network's draft show last night, they (Jeremiah, Brooks) had the Steelers taking Alexander, even with Jackson still on the board.

Apple lacks in tackling, I doubt the Steelers pick him in the 1st when they ask for so much run support from the CBs

Not sold on Apple. Low hanging fruit. Would rather us go NT, OLB or S in round 1 and go DB in rounds 2 and/or 3.

I think you're probably right

I think we like Alexander over Jackson. He is a better prospect propbably. I think Apple will be fine, and just needs more detail orientation and coaching. I'm fine with Alexander or Apple. Really, I'd like to trade down, then grab a db.

I can only say that my Game Day outburst for an "APPLE turnover" would come true...

But, like Coolie and the gang - I much rather WJIII (and/or Mackensie Alexander) over the Apple...

IF A'swan gets past the Saints we gotta move up to select him he can play NT in the base and anywhere in sub packages inside or outside.

If they go corner at #25 I'm fine with either WJIII, Apple, or Alexander, in that order.

I still think they'll lean towards the D-line if a big name drops or an OLB/Edge guy, like Leonard Floyd or Shilique Calhoun.

I'm hoping we come out of this draft with at least three serviceable DB's in whatever combination of safeties and corners. Would be nice to re-stock the talent pool in the secondary. Looking at some of those S/CB tweeners like Canady and Houston-Carson in the mid rounds.

Do we need 3 DBs from this draft when we still have Golson and Grant coming back from last year's draft? Granted one didn't play at all and the other very little, if any, but they seemed to have been decent draft picks

This thread is going to take off in 5-4-3-2-...

Hell yes we do. Cockrell is ok, but that's it, and Gay is older. We need a corner and safety big time.

I'm not disagreeing that we need a corner and a safety. But that is two, not three.

I'm arguing that Cockrell was OK and it was his first year on the team and he had been pulled off of a practice squad of another team. Had he even played any games before? One would expect that he will be better this year. Golson should be an upgrade to whoever he is in for. Don't know about Grant, but seemed like a good pick (for the spot). That is two CB's we didn't have playing last year.

My point is, we don't need to pick three DB's in the draft. If we pick two, we are good, IMO. If Allen has worked out his issues, we are, definitely good, but I'm not counting on that. Unless the coaches see something lacking in some of the aforementioned, I don't see a reason for taking more than two DB's.

Ok Ark, I'll settle for two, but would prefer three ;)

I'm looking at Gay as a slot guy as he gets a bit long in the tooth. That leaves basically Cockrell, Grant and Golson at CB. I would love to see a couple of taller, athletic outside guys added to the mix. Possibly a blue chipper early, and then a developmental guy mid/later rounds. So that's two corners to go along with whichever FS/SS they hold in high regard, which is almost a must-have pick at this point.
