Per Adam Shefter of ESPN Mike Tomlin’s contract has a team option year in 2027 that the organization must pick up before March 1st 2026.
So it’s not difficult to move on after this season if Rooney chooses.

The stars might be aligning for a Tomlin exit this winter, but if they somehow win the division, he's probably here through 2027, regardless of what happens in the playoffs.

I know there are growing numbers of fans rooting for losses at this point to put an end to the Tomlin era, and I can understand why, but I'm just not wired to do that, as much as I want a new coach.

None of us want losses and this state of the Steelers.
I don’t, and have not, openly root for losses or failure.
I want to SBs every year.
I want wins every game.
But the reality is, none of those can happen with THESE incompetent boobs at the helm.
Art II AND Tomlin both need to go before we get back to where we should be.

If the Steelers don't move on from Tomlin after this season, it's almost certain they'll pick up his option. They won't enter the season with a lame duck head coach. However, if the Steelers continue to play ugly football and miss the playoffs/get blown out in the first round like usual and he comes back, next year will probably get to Matt Canada-level chants and booing at home games if it's more of the same or worse.

I’m not rooting for the Steelers to lose. Let’s just say if they lose games and it leads to change, I’m not going to be all that upset.

Nature will take it's course no matter what wishful thinking is put upon the season.
