Tomlin IS a DEFENSIVE coach right?

Maybe call for a DC in one of the already existing offseason threads or Tomlin sucks threads
The specific point addressed here needed specifically addressed: For a "defensive coach" his defenses sure have sucked for 5 straight playoff games. Boom, killa chilla, mixed in with a dilla. Gotchit son?

It has already been addressed in those other threads, this is not new info you are providing, son. But carry on

DK Sports Daily Shot STEELERS, addressed this some this morning, it’s not what you think.

MY TAKE
We are going to get reputable candidates, it’s the final choice that I worry about due to the Tomlinized choice. If the FO gives Tomlin a wide brush, we will get near the same we’ve been having. If the FO sways we are involved way heavier, then we have a chance at a new dynamic.

In the presser when asked Tomlin said the hires will involve three peoole: Art, Khan, MT.

D needs to improve but all those playoff point totals were not defensive. At least three pick sixes and a fumble for TD given up by the offense.

HellA lot better than JUST Coach Tomlin !!!!

You do realize that as long as Andy Wiedl is there, that is Kahn’s right hand man.

That puts Wiedl’s input in there as well.

Just another positive.

oh man not going down that path are you?

I'm not expecting a big name coach. I think we need to hope the rookie/ unknown and inexperienced guy they bring in sets off lightning. But Tomlin will suppress any mildly aggressive offensive tactics.

The decision NOT to promote Brian Flores to DC last year and let him walk to Minnesota was and still is a headscratcher.
Not if you believe that Flores was only looking for a gig due to his lawsuit. Any gig gives him time for another PR fiasco to play out. One year later he is “rehabilitated” and can get away from the shyte show that is a Tomlin led team. Flores MIGHT have stayed as the new HC, but he didn’t want Tomlin killing his chances by becoming DC.

God, dear Lord, I hope so. THAT and that the new hire actually gets a say in how his until is run. After the game, Shades 100% main point was that we lost due to turnovers, that was basically it. He is virtually retarded on that point; he know nothing else in trying to improve the offensive unit. He is 100% compelled to focus on turnovers and nothing else. and that's all we will get moving forward. Not the fact that his play calling comes down to running up the middle every 1st and 2nd down for pitiful yardage leaving us in 3rd and 9. No, that's irrelevant, it only comes down to turnovers. Shades is simply too elemental to get the job done.
And turnovers are sometimes a symptom of a different problem. As you said they frequently end up in third and long which can contribute to turnovers as there is more to do to get a first down. How much are the turnovers purely the result of poor player execution, and how much the result of poor offensive strategy and shoddy playcalling putting players in bad positions or having to take more risks to get a firstdown or touchdown?

Yea, beating a dead horse but when you get nothing but info. that is "dead horse" material what are we supposed to discuss? How everything will be different when there are zero indications that it will be? Should we "play pretend" that everything is changing for the better and just pretend? OK, then, let's play pretend!

We've been playing pretend for a long time. We pretend the team is anything like they used to be. They only share the colors. That culture is ******* dead, buried and gone.

The Steelers pass rush as it stands lasts for about half a season at a high level before it starts getting blocked up and shut down.

The amount of holding that goes on with the edge rushers is astounding. They will either need to start getting creative in blitzing again or get some interior rush.

I haven't seen them consistently do much from the anterior in a good while.

I hope the hell they keep investing in the DL&OL.

Doing the same **** every year in schemes does them no service when they play teams with brilliant minds scheming them on offense and defense.

I'm still pissed off the ****** pats*** came in and spanked them. The two games I personally wanted out of the whole season the pats**** and jagoffs, they **** the bed on.

It seems any team with half a brain can easily beat them. You don't even need top tier talent.

Whaaaaaaat???? The Steelers had to hire an armored truck to haul the money they laid out for the defensive genius of one Teryl Austin, whose remarkable success in 2017 with Detroit (27th ranked defense) and 2018 in Cincinnati (32nd ranked defense) made him such a hot commodity!

No wonder the 2023 Steelers defense cracked the top 25! Wait, there are 100 NFL teams, aren't there?

Hmm. Kinda sounds like Tomlin when he was hired.....What was he, a DB coach or something for the Vikings if I remember?

As soon as I heard that I was like, really? And here we are 17 years later.

I missed the thread that covered giving up, on average, over 40 PPG in the last 5 playoff games we played. But pitt patt padiwack, son. Give the dog a bone. Yup, yup.

I believe he was the DB coach at Tampa, who won a ring under Gruden. I remember all his boastful story telling about that D and how many points it scored in the Super Bowl (as if he was an intrical part of that). Then after that he was DC of the MN team in 2006. I believe the team's passing D was 31st in the NFL under Shades They got torched by every team they faced.

OK, so the next logical question is what can be done about returning to what we used to be? What is it going to take to get us back to the greatness of yesteryear? I'm pretty sure it won't involve Cool Shades and his undisciplined mess he nepotism and good ole buddy environment he brings.

We can't do anything really. Obviously the owner is just fine and dandy with the way things are.

It's extremely disappointing.

Dallas isn't extending their mediocre Mike. Steelers? No losing seasons extend him derp..

What changes do we think Mike will make. Funny he has not mentioned a DC ranked what this year 30-32. For sure the Steelers need to bring in some specialty coaches to coach up players. This will be interesting to see if Tomlin allows that ego of his to make the decisions instead of getting back to championship caliber football.

It’s gonna be the same tune as long as he’s at the helm.

As we’ve seen, Belicheat on his worst day with his worst team will still kick Tomlin’s ***.

It’s a limited number, how will you find our response???
