This type of QB is the future of the position...Don't fall behind the times...

I don't buy it. Someone like Allen (and others in the league) is what I see as the future. Lamar is a RB that can throw. He's not a great QB. He may be an average QB at best. Allen is a QB who can run. He is a very good QB who can move around and make plays. And, he can run when needed and to keep a D honest. That's the style QB I would want.

Exactly… people just don’t get how important passing ability is to the modern game… yeah straight statue pocket passers are not the assets that a mobile qb is, but to date no run first qb has won a super bowl… seriously.. watch a guy like mahomes…he is mobile as hell… tge pocket breaks down and that guy starts scrambling around looking downfield… he makes all his reads , then checks to see if anyone is coming open in the scramble drill, then finally if nothing is open takes off…

A guy like lamar makes one or two reads and takes off. This is the magic year that, as with every run first QB , they start trying to make him a pocket passer…

Take a look at his stats… in the magic 2019 season, they built an offense to his strengths… every season since teams have focused on the throws he is comfortable with and his stats have dropped and dropped… because he isnt a qb… he is a rb that throws… its mental… its how his instincts process the game.. his success is exclusively tied to teams being so scared of his legs that the’d give him easy throws… as they backed off selling out to stop him running, and he had to face real pass d, his tds fell, his interceptions rose, and his rating plummeted… heck this season he pretty much should give half his psycheck to Andrews, who gets wide open a ton and catches horrid passes better than anyone even in coverage…

I was sold on Kordell back in the day Lookin back it is easy to see it didn't work, especially in playoffs.

Personally I was a big fan of Tommy Maddox. Even had the Tommy gun hat! lol.

Tommy wasn't great but had some moments. See Cleveland playoff game. I truly believe he showed Cowher the up side of a gunslinging QB. Hence the drafting of Ben.

But like most on here, hoping the Ravens break the bank.

Exactly. I fully expect oh Canada to be shown the door as soon as the season is over.

I'd be surprised if they did for a couple of reasons:
1. They will want to see how Canada does with a new QB, even if the new QB is Mason Rudolph.
2. Canada gets a pass because the OL is so horrible, which is not his fault.
3. I'm assuming he's under contract for next year since assistants usually get two year contracts and past evidence indicates that it doesn't matter what a ******* awful stupid coach and waste of space you are, Art The Deuce isn't going to pay you not to work. He'll tank a whole ******* season rather than admit a mistake and pay someone to sit home. Remember ST coach Danny Smith still draws a paycheck here.

I hope like hell our Tombert don't think Action Jackson is the future proto type QB as we would be right in the saddle that the ravens are in.

I don't see the league looking for run first QBs but they are looking for QBs first who could run if needed.

Cowher was the least enthusiastic of the three who decided to draft Ben. Chin wanted OL Stacy Andrews and was ready to draft him, Colbert was high on Andrews as well, was ready to draft him too, but graded Rivers and Ben the same. Mr. Rooney (Dan) wanted to steer the discussion back to Ben as he recalled his passing on Marino as a “gut check that hurt”. Common sense prevailed in ignoring Chin’s preferred QB method.

He runs more than I'd like and is only 6' but still couldn't pass him up. I do think drafting a QB like Lamar and building a team around him could really bite a team in the *** if he gets hurt. All of your QB's have to be in the same mold or you are totally screwed and would be for years. A QB like Allen is really more plug-and-play and much easier to build a team around for a decade and a half.

Tomlin or the rooney’s don’t have a clue what’s going on in football today. I watched rerun of last Super Bowl we won and the Steeler brain trust‘s world view hasn’t changed much: bad offensive line, sketchy running game, minimum defensive line, big play maker on defense and big ben. Debo had probably best year any defensive player ever had with 100 tackles 16 sacks finished year with longest interception return in super bowl history. But how the the Rooney’s see the world hasn’t changed much. I think eagles of all teams is figuring it out: get good innovative coaches, don’t sign qbs to 100 million dollar contracts, keep a good offensive line and good defense.
