Tomlin to Redskins Discussion Thread

Is this madden football?

Never happens.

Just like the Steelers weren't going to make a big move to trade up in the draft or trade a future first-round pick for a player. The Steelers are a team in transition and need a new direction. This presents the perfect opportunity to move on from Tomlin and get compensated in the process.

It would be a nice, clean get-out for everybody.

I know this is just a story to pass time on ESPN. But........ mike does have ties to the tidewater area, and Snyder could offer him alot of $$$
At this point the Skins wouldnlove to be mediocre so it might be a good fit!

Throw in the Skins first and second next year and it gets my approval. I can dream, can't I?

I’m not saying I’ve not wanted this CS gone, but the suggestion of a trade to Was is not happening

I still like Tomlin... still believe he is a very good coach. He is not going anywhere.

That said... IF...Snyder offered the right draft capital? A 2020 1st... plus??? Maybe?

If I am Tomlin? No way! Unless... I get the Gruden deal. 10 mil a year for 10 years guaranteed... I would have a tough time saying no. Even if Snyder did his normal routine... 100 mil? Tough to say no.

Now... IF... we are this far down this hypothetical trail... who to replace Tomlin with? Ben has two more years... so you probably do not want to reinvent the wheel? Munchak? It would likely be an easier transition than most. What about Mike McCarthy?

.

I'd be OK with Munch, but he left for Denver to be closer to his kids, doubt he would be interested unless a lot of $$$ were offered.

Knock it off! Coach MT is freakin’ AWESOME!!!! No more of this talk until we trade him.

Oh, no......I hope Snyder doesn't lure the coach without a losing record away from us. However, if he wants to leave, and the Redskins want to offer their 1st and 2nd for the next 2 years, I guess we'll have to accept it.

You guys are cracking me up here. I suppose something could happen to send Coach Tomlin elsewhere, but it's far more likely that he's in Pittsburgh for 10 more years. I would love that not only because I'm a fan of his, but also to get the pure comedy gold from the message boards that I'm seeing here today!

So specifically, what do you love about him, his clock management, his awareness of when to throw the red flag, his ability to have his team prepared each week, his off hands approach to the defense, his development of players and coaching staff? The list can go on.......

I know, never a losing season...............................................yet.

I'd offer Redskin game tickets to some poor DC fan of Tomlin's choice if it would help!

Is there a petition or gofundme or something to help this along?

I'm typing up a nice resume for him right now and sending it to Dan Snyder.

If we just get a first round pick then we essentially got Fitzpatrick for free.

I will give them our 2020 3rd rounder to take Tomlin.

Mike Tomlin wanting complete control... hahahahaha. Dude doesn't want complete control of anything because it would be his *** instead of having fall guys like Butler.

I'd love to see it though.. Steven A. would eat his words.

I don't want a retread. I want the next Cowher or Noll. Or even Tomlin early in his career before he knew too much to bring in quality assistants and let them do their job.

I want a young defensive minded coach who brings in real coordinators. Go back to a more traditional offense. The one drive we ran mixed it up and it worked so of course they stopped doing it. Coaches just can't get out of their own way

Granted, our last two coaches havent been household names prior to them being hired.
I am sure there is a hungry up and comming guru out there. What are some possibilities?

I don't want some young so called genius coach. They are a dime a dozen these days with all these spread offenses in college.

My top candidate would be Bill O'Brien if the Texans falter this year and they decide to part ways. He's got a lot of experience in various systems and he seems to adapt to his players instead of forcing them to fit his scheme.

If they looked at college, I'd be interested in Iowa's Kirk Ferentz. Iowa gets next to nothing recruiting. They are always outgunned athletically. They are still competitive due to coaching. They take 2 and 3 star kids nobody wants and develop them. It's all built on fundamentals. Something sorely lacking in the NFL right now.

Darkhorse candidate - Green Bay DC Mike Pettine. He was a high school coach in eastern PA for years and got a shot in the NFL. He worked his way up and was HC in Cleveland for a short time. He didn't get much time to prove himself.

Lots of buzz around Chiefs OC Eric Bienemy. I don't know. Maybe he's calling the plays but that's Andy Reid's offense. It's Andy Reid gameplanning. He's kind of like the offensive version of Matt Patricia who was Belichick's DC for years before getting his shot because nobody knew if it was him or Belichick.

I think Jay Gruden actually did a good job in Wash too. I don't think he'd be a bad hire. Look at Wash's roster. They have next to nothing. They drafted RB Darius Guice in rd 1 last year and he's pretty much never played due to injury. He won some games with Kirk Cousins and was smart enough not to pay him big bucks.

I actually respect that a lot. It would have been so easy to give Cousins a big check and then keep winning 9 games per year. But Gruden had the guts to let him leave and look elsewhere because he knew Cousins wasn't the guy.
