We passed on all 11 plays in the red zone Sunday and coach cool shades wished we had run some. LMFAO, the idiot is on the sidelines, how about actually coaching in gae and going over to Haley and express his opinion instead of again apologizing for coaching errors as he does every week,. The guy is as sharp as a balloon.

He says that he wishes they would have run now since the passes didn't work. At the time he was obviously ok with passing the ball.

He is clueless and gutless and yet people wonder how the franchise has become stale, mediocre and rudderless under his helm.

And we lost the game where again?

Yea we beat the worst team in football and played like the 2nd worst team, all is good under the tool. Try and actually talk real football instead of excusing the piss poor coaching and play calling.

Here is Ben's stat line for the last two games:
vs. TB 29 40 72.5 314 7.9 3 0 5 26 120.2 2 4 2.0 0 2 1
vs. JAX 26 36 72.2 273 7.6 1 0 4 12 103.1 3 -2 -0.7 0 1 1
You wasted a 72% passing performance with a 120 passer rating and damn near did the same thing the next week with another 72% 103 passer rating. Why, at least partially because you have created no identity in the redzone. You are inside the five first and goal and you don't run the ball once to the power back you brought in for that exact reason. WHY? WHY? If I was in the media scrum at the press conference it might be the last question I'd get to ask, but I'd sure as hell ask it.

I've been noticing a similar trend around the league as well. Look at some of the number of carries for RB's around the league, I'm not talking about teams without one true back and use the RB by committee. Look at Gore for example. Gore has one game over 20 carries. There's a reason Dallas has looked so much better this year, and there is a reason Murray leads the league in rushing, he already has 130 carries, for comparison, Bell is second in the league in rushing and has 87 carries.

For whatever reason, RBs are becoming an after thought. With how successful our running game has been, I haven't seen a whole lot of play action. And I haven't seen enough run plays near the goalline.

The NFL hasn't tried to hide their intentions of making the QB the face of the league. The rules suggest as much.

That being said, I obviously would like more running plays in the RZ- but I dont want to see Bell at 30+ touches a game either. That is one position where you can easily get wore down as the season progresses.

I agree, you don't want to wear them down too much, but at the same time you can't completely neglect him in the redzone. Bell had 15 carries and 5 catches against Jax, we definitely needed to give him an opportunity down there. And we also have Blount. There's just absolutely no reason to not give either of these guys carries in that situation.

My gandpapy use to always say " You can wish in one hand and **** in the other, an see which one fills up faster" . Coach Tomlin needs to either take control of this team or get the **** out. After the fact, isn't a good thing as you can't go back and change it. Will we see anything different this week? Will we see the exact opposite, nothing but run plays inside the red zone? Wouldn't surprise me at all. Why is it so hard to call offensive plays? I'm not in the NFL, but is it a over analyzed and analyzed again type thing? I realize it isn't easy or everybody could do it, but I also think it is a little self induced complicated. Kapish?

Haley: "Alright. First and goal from the three yard line. Should we dial up a run play?"

Tomlin: "No. That's just what they'd expect us to do..."

Problem is, the runs don't work either. I'd rather see Ben in the gun with a RB by his side when we get down there. He can hand off or pass but preferably pass the ball. How about rolling Ben out? How about Ben running the ball when it is wide open? Ben running and even rolling out is on him. He doesn't seem like he wants to run at all anymore. I like him looking down field but so many times, he could have run the ball for a first or a decent gain but just wouldn't do it.

Tomlin said in his Tuesday presser that he wasn't unaware that teams have scored on every opening drive against the Steelers. A stat he wasn't aware of.

That says all I need to know.

Wow, with those kinda stats I wouldn't want to waste the opportunity and hand off to a RB. Go with the hot hand and let him make a play.

We should have tried at least one squeeze play. If that didn't work I would have pulled the goalie.

Perhaps Southern English is still a bit "different" than the rest of the country/world that chooses to use that language,
but if he said what you quoted above, then he was saying he was aware.

SMH...You like bitching about Tomlin dont you...............you look for any sign of ineptitude on behalf of the coach so your peers might lend credibility to your frequent diatribes...or perhaps you do this only for you (i suspect the latter). But you feel good after you post things like this dont you ? Admit it...you feel some sort of self-bestowed value when you rant. But you also realize YOU dont make a difference in the grand scheme of things that happen in Steelers camp. The only one that values your opinion is you.

Chill out.................youre too overwound and emotional, so let the estrogen spike subside just a lil and relax. Its a game. ***** gon' be alright.

A close-up of Mike Tomlin reveals just how desperate he is for the team to run the ball in the red zone ...

I know the comment was meant in hindsight, but nonetheless it's still funny to see the HEAD COACH of a team lamenting other coaches' decisions publicly. Especially this head coach. How about instead of being a bystander for your 8th season, and lamenting decisions of the coaches you hire to completely control the destiny of your team, you maybe take a little bit of control over it and put your own stamp on it for once?

Our run game looks good on paper and some times on the field. However, we can't rely on it yet. We can run but not when we NEED to. I have said this before and it still holds true. Our strength is in the no huddle, Ben in the shot gun and Ben passing the ball. The running game is the complement not the other way around like it used to be. Not only is our talent now in the passing game but the league has made the game more of a passing game. It would be nice to be able to run the ball down an opponents throats like we used to but we aren't there at this point. Maybe later in the season.

Of course he wishes they had run the ball. Because the pass plays didnt work. Just like anything else when looked backed upon in hindsight. You wish you had done something different if it didnt work. Tomlin lets his coordinators do their job. He doesnt micro manage. Who wants a boss constantly telling you your job. In hindsight he saying they wish they had run the ball. Cause the pass plays didnt work.

I have been saying this to everyone who will listen. Remember the 90s Cowboys or the Seahawks when they had Shaun Alexander? I could name many more examples. Everyone in the stadium knew who was gonna get the ball and they still ran it. We have the players to do this. The only pass play we should ever attempt, 5 yards out or closer is one out of a running set. Run the damn ball at least twice and play-action it on 3rd down. Or play-action it on 1st down and run it on 2nd and 3rd. If you do not make it, kick the field goal. Bell's running style is suited for the redzone. His patient style should allow him to navigate through traffic well. I just can not believe these million dollar coaches are so dumb. Hell, run it two times and QB sneak it on 3rd. These are all high percentage goal line plays...

We will go back to the lab this week and turn over some rocks looking for run plays in the red zone, that we will evaluate for popcorn obviously, see which ones have the opportunity to be splash plays of pedigree if you will, and put them in the playbook for the men of football to use this coming week, potentially if that specific need for situational football arises obviously, and go out and play the game of football. Obviously.

I put the radio on to listen to Stan, forgetting it was Tuesday, and quickly turned it off. I can't stand Tomlin's press conferences. They're all the damn same and reveal hardly anything noteworthy. I feel sorry for the Burgh press that has to sit in on those and actually come up with something to write.
