Trump budget to boost defense spending by $54B

Our military budget is mostly foreign aid, to protect our actual homeland would cost far less than what
we currently spend. This 54 billion would be mostly additional foreign aid.

Wrong. Those days ended with OTerrorist giving the middle east $7 Trillion of our tax dollars.

Build new military bases in states along the borders. Remove the service members in places like Germany (or England and France and Spain if any are there), but I keep those in S Korea, Maybe Japan. Put those newly found service members in the new bases. Borders are protected by the military as it should be,

Yeah, yeah, removing forces from Germany will let Russia run free. Hey, the 1980's called they want their foreign policy back.

The US presence in Germany has a huge radius of positive effect that keeps the Russians far distant. This is still a very good idea. Who pays for it is another question. It should be mostly European funding. the broke Russians of the 90s are nothing like the Russians now. What if someone worse than Putin comes along?

If US troops "come home", they will have little to do. When was the last time US troops were used against a hostile army in the US proper? 1814? The US does not benefit from having its borders function like the DMZ in Korea.

So stimulus is good now..... got it.

Less than 10% of Obama's stimulus went to infrastructure - and few of the pet projects that wound up getting funded had anything to do roads, dams, bridges, etc. Instead, it went to funding light rail and trains, which the greenies love.

Stimulus is not an effective measure to boost the economy. It just isn't. The money goes into the black hole known as government and a small percentage actually does anything.

However, spending money on things the Federal government should be doing in any event - maintaining highways, bridges, etc. - is not as cringe-worthy as spending it on "job training" that involves billions of dollars poured down a rat hole.

Not any more it doesn't. The reunified Germany is more than a match for Russia. Especially now since the former Warsaw Pact Nations are a buffer zone. We are pouring money down a hole defending Europe, particularly since the Quisling governments there are set on surrendering their nations to Islamic Conquest without firing a shot. We could draw down our forces a huge amount as well.

Other than suggest that the Quisling Germans are a match for the Russians, I don't disagree in general with all you've said.

But what is the response, ten years later, when the Russians actually grab the Ukraine, and start to "help" the people in Poland by annexing like Hitler did with the Sudetenland? When the next Merkel pulls the Neville Chamberlain routine, the buffer is lost and the battle will have been underway for a long time already. Simply having a forward "police station" has to keep them all better, if only to project power in time of need. Better to have a significant American deterrent, paid for by those that most benefit, the Europeans.

Poland will never submit to Russia. The Poles are pretty nationalistic. The major differnce in your scenario is that Ossetia in the Ukraine has a large Russian population and the rest of the UKraine doesn't. The UKRs now know they will need to keep their military up to snuff as well. Russia won't get any more free passes. Herman the German still has a large, modern and well trained and equipped army and Airforce. I have no doubts they can stand off Ivan.

I don't disagree that there is some benefit there. They won't pay because they are too busy being subverted by a not-so-subtle invasion and want to keep funding that. The Big O and the Dems instructed us that the Russians are NOT a problem. Even ridiculed Romney for suggesting something so absurd.

I think the border doesn't have to be like the DMZ to be protected by the military. These folks would have, plenty to do. They still have to train. Finding and destroying tunnels, stopping more would be good terrorism training, doing Search and Rescues in the desert would be good.

We can get a good amount of people somewhere in a shortish amount of time. If the folks that are already there want us closer, they can pony up the $ to make it happen.

I want our future conflicts to be solved by bombs. Big, beautiful terrific bombs. The greatest bombs the world has ever seen. Use the Middle East for a demonstration. That will keep these pissant countries in line.
