Turkish Coup?

Without Supporting the coup it sounds like Obama could be leading us into world war III. If an ISIL sympathizer cements iron control of Turkey over this attempted coup that could lead Turkey to become a very dangerous enemy.

oh well, fun for a day

Looks like it's a fail

State news shows images of what look like citizens/police arresting/lynching soldiers it says Gulenist #Turkishcoup

It will be interesting to see if Erdogan really still is in control today.

Erdogan will now become a tyrant, and consolidate more power, and will abandon more secular, democratic ideals. The Turkey of Attaturk is dead.

Erdogan says traitors in military are taking orders from Pennsylvania, where opposition leader cleric Gulen is based

So, we're at war with Turkey?

Turkish PM: Any country that stands by cleric Gulen will be at war with Turkey

The government said that followers of Gulen, who has been living in self-imposed exile in the United States for years, were behind the attempted coup by a faction of the military

I gotta say that I'm not a tinfoil hat guy but this coup really smells fishy.

Eastern PA. A Flyers fan no doubt.

Turkey Blames Coup Attempt On Group Led By U.S.-Based Cleric

Tensions rise in U.S.-Turkish relations as Erdogan targets Fethullah Gülen, a cleric who lives in Pennsylvania.

Turkish officials have placed blame on members of the Gülen movement, a religious and social group that the government has accused in the past of endeavoring to establish a “parallel state” inside of Turkey.

This presents a potential rift between Ankara and Washington, as Fethullah Gülen, the Sunni cleric who heads the group, has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania

Erdogan, whose alliance with the Gülen movement ruptured in 2013, demanded on Saturday that Washington hand over the cleric.

Pentagon Loses Turkish Airspace Access Crucial In Airstrikes Against Isis

Incirlik airbase closed to military aircraft after failed coup attempt

The coup attempt in Turkey has yielded its first tangible disruption to the war against Islamic State, as the Pentagon has temporarily lost access to the Turkish airfield it uses as its primary staging ground for its air campaign in Syria and Iraq.

Although the Pentagon press secretary, Peter Cook, on Saturday portrayed the interruption as surmountable, there was no indication as to when the US would regain access to the Incirlik airbase in south-eastern Turkey, as a defiant Turkish elected government has begun arresting thousands of military officers and soldiers in reprisal for the failed coup.

Turkish airspace, including that over the Incirlik airbase, was closed to military aircraft – some of which flew above Ankara during the attempted takeover on Friday night.

Since "special weapons" are stored at Incerlik, I'm confident that there are plans in place for this situation if Erdogan's people try to come for them.

Local authorities block access to air base in Turkey that houses US nukes

Movement in and out of the Incirlik airbase in southern Turkey was blocked on Saturday by local military authorities. The NATO base stores US tactical nuclear weapons.

Access to the base has now been restored and flights are again allowed in its airspace, Daily Sabah reports, citing the US consulate in Turkey.

Erdogan appears to be holding 1,500 U.S. soldiers hostage at Incirlik air base in an attempt to pressure Obama to hand over his political opponent who was exiled to Pennsylvania. Erdogan claims that he ordered and organized the failed coup last night.

Turkey detains 'coup plotters' at base used by US: Reports

ISTANBUL: Turkish authorities have reportedly detained a senior air force general and other officers accused of backing the failed coup aimed at ousting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a key air base used by US forces for raids in Syria.

Brigadier air force general Bekir Ercan Van was detained along with over a dozen lower ranking officers on Saturday at the air force base of Incirlik in Turkey's southern Adana province, newspapers including the Hurriyet daily said.

They were now being interrogated by investigators, the reports added.

A Turkish official told AFP on Saturday that Ankara suspected Incirlik was used to refuel military aircraft "hijacked" by the coup plotters on Friday night.

So does ISIS now have access to B61 nukes now?

This was a very serious event. The USA keeps nuclear weapons in Turkey, and ISIS is knocking on the door of their southern borders.

If the nation became destabilized, I think we would need to send in troops. In fact, why not send in troops right now along the Syrian boarder?

We may be leaving - with our nukes - a WSA on generator power for sensors? That must be a nightmare scenario.

Incirlik Air Base: Post-Coup Power Cut Remains at U.S. Site

A Turkish air base widely believed to house U.S. nuclear weapons continued to rely on backup generators Wednesday, five days after a failed coup plunged the country into crisis.

Commercial power was cut to Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey and the airspace above it closed within hours of Friday's attempted military takeover in the NATO country

No one is locked anywhere on the base, which has about 2,700 Defense Department civilians and military personnel, officials said. But people were not permitted to leave Wednesday for security reasons.

Not only is Turkey the main gateway for foreign fighters traveling in and out of Syria, it is widely believed that NATO nuclear warheads are stored under the base. The U.S. has never admitted it houses such weapons at Incirlik.

According to Jeffrey Davis, of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, references to "special weapons" kept at the facility was a way of saying "nuclear" warheads.

**** BO will show the same power as he did when our sailors were taken by Iran. Apology.

Don't worry. They are a NATO ally.
