Undrafted Free Agents

Jeffcoat - Eagles
Shaquil Barrett - Broncos
Max Bullough - Texans

I am so shocked on this I thought for sure Barrett would come where Porter is. I read some stuff on him how Joey took him under his wing and how tight they were, oh well must not be that tight.......

1. Alan Robinson ‏@arobinson_Trib 11h
#Steelers bringing in 10 rookie free agents, including Stanford DE Josh Mauro, projected as 6R pick, and Shepherd LB Howard Jones (5R).
1. Gerry Dulac ‏@gerrydulac 10h
Stanford DE Josh Mauro (6-6, 271) one of 10 undrafted FAs signed by #Steelers. Combine draft profile compared him to young Brett Keisel.
o Rick Kozlowski ‏@jusbekoz 12h
Defensive line teammates Howard Jones and Mike Franklin from @ShepherdRamsFB will join the #steelers as free agents.
1. Mark Kaboly ‏@MarkKaboly_Trib 10h
#Steelers have added St. Francis S Jake DeMedal to their roster as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Why not Hubbard (OLB),and Marcus Roberson?

Because UFDAs control where they want to go. Maybe they offered and were rebuffed.

Yeah in a year like this year there are probably some bigger money offers for UFAs out there, plus preference... the league really should have expanded to rosters of 65 by now and moved the draft back to 9 rounds...

And all 53 should dress on gameday...******* antiquated bullshit...but it's all about the players' safety, right Rog!

Najja Johnson CB from Buffalo just confirmed. One to keep an eye on for sure

So these guys that you all have mentioned that are not included in the 10 reported . . . we're just waiting for confirmation?

Mauro has a shot.

the rest need to make the best of their paychecks.

Marcus Roberson is still out there. He would be a great UDFA signing!

Roberson has some character issues, but isn't a rapist or murderer. If you bring him in, and he screws up, just cut him. No guaranteed money! He is a 3rd round talent.

Mauro has a shot.

Mauro is a dreaded tweener for us. He is too slow to play LB (and too heavy) and not big enough to be a true end. He will certainly be asked to add some mass. At 271, I think you see him potentially end up on the practice squad while they try to get some size on him, unless he just explodes in the preseason.

I think a guy everyone should watch is Roy Philon, DT, Louisville. He is not going to jump out at a lot of people because of his size. He is 6023-298. Smart, finishing his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. Could not bench prior to the draft and his other numbers were pretty ordinary, but he plays with good power, shows some leverage, and can shed. He played DE in the 3-man fronts and played DT on passing downs, just what we do. I think he could surprise.

I also like the OLB from Shepherd. I think he has the raw tools to be a very good NFL player, potential starter tools, just needs some time.

With that said, any undrafted class that has 2-3 potential roster players is a good class.

Purifoy and Roberson have signed elsewhere now. see rotoworld.

The guy from Shepard was absolutely worth a spot... he seems raw, but if he pans out he had some great measurables. Some of these guys I cant find much at all on. TE may have some promise too

Best list to date of real signings:

QB Brandon Kay
QB Terrance Owens
TE Eric Waters
OG Will Simmons
OG Chris Elkins
OT Kaycee Ike
P Cody Webster
DE Josh Mauro
DE Ethan Hemer
DT Roy Philon
OLB Howard Jones
S Jake DeMedal
CB Najja Johnson

Five Steelers undrafted free agents to watch

PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers agreed to terms with 10 undrafted free agents Saturday night, and history says one or a couple of them has a good chance of making the team's 53-man roster.

Heck, an undrafted free agent that the Steelers have yet to sign could end up sticking with the team.

Consider that the Steelers signed West Virginia safety Terence Garvin after a tryout last year and he made the team after moving to linebacker. Garvin played in 15 games before hurting his knee, and he shined on special teams while also getting snaps on passing downs.

The Steelers' rookies will take part in a three-day minicamp that starts Friday, and here are five undrafted free agents to watch:

OLB Howard Jones, Shepherd: Jones arrived at the Division II school in West Virginia as a wide receiver and left as Shepherd’s all-time sacks leader (34 1/2). The 6-foot-4, 238-pounder opened enough eyes to receive an invitation to the NFL combine where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds. Jones has a real chance to make the Steelers given their depth issues at outside linebacker.

DE Josh Mauro, Stanford: The 6-6, 282-pounder is certainly built for defensive end in a 3-4 scheme. Mauro has long arms and good strength, and he recorded 51 tackles, including 12 ½ for losses, and four sacks in 2013. The Steelers could still use depth at defensive end and Mauro is an intriguing prospect.

DE Ethan Hemer, Wisconsin: Former walk-on is no stranger to overcoming long odds in pursuit of his dream of playing in the NFL. Hemer recorded just 13 tackles in 2013 but the 6-6, 285-pounder played well enough to earn All-Big Ten honorable mention honors from the league’s coaches.

TE Eric Waters, Missouri: Only caught eight passes for 72 yards and a touchdown last season as the Tigers primarily used him as a blocker. Waters opened eyes at Missouri’s pro day when the 6-5, 245-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds and recorded a vertical leap of 39 ½ inches.

S Devon Carrington, Stanford: The 6-1, 204-pounder recorded 33 tackles and broke up four passes in his final season for the Cardinal. A highly regarded recruit coming out of high school, Carrington played as a true freshman at Stanford but never established himself as a full-time starter. Could be interesting as a developmental player.

The rest of the undrafted free agents:

G Will Simmons, East Carolina

DT Roy Philon, Louisville

QB Brendon Kay, Cincinnati

OT Kaycee Ike, UAB

OL Chris Elkins, Youngstown State

Eric Waters can pass block pretty well but the only times I saw him try and catch it did not look pretty. He is the same guy that that called out his teammates for talking **** behind Sam's back and not saying what they actually think. I liked that. And I like that he did not sugar coat his comments after the fact.
