The Pittsburgh Steelers announced their practice squad signings today, and two bigger names landed on it.

Safety Karl Joseph, the former first round draft choice of the Raiders. Joseph played with the Raiders from 16-20 before signing with Cleveland last season. He has started 49 games in his career recording 303 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 3 sacks.

The signing of Joseph will give the Steelers some much needed depth at safety. With knew rules because of COVID, the Steelers could elevate him to the regular roster on gamedays and send him back down after the game. This could be something the Steelers elect to do until Joseph gains a complete understanding of the defense.

Joseph missed most of the preseason in Las Vegas, only becoming healthy enough to play in their final pre-season game.

Receiver Steven Sims was signed as an undrafted free agent from Kansas by the Washington Football team in 2019. In two years in Washington he recorded 61 receptions for 575 yards and 5 touchdowns. If the Steelers feel that other practice squad receivers Cody White and Rico Bussey aren’t ready to play varsity snaps Sims could easily be elevated to the active roster on gamedays.
