We ain't gonna get conservative and scared

Man Tomlin better not even think about playing Pickett the remainder of this season. I think he really would lose the locker room and Pickens would have a melt down of epic proportions.

What I found interesting in the hot mic (no pun intended) was the word choice. "Conservative and scared." Almost like he's trying to refute what we say in these threads. Great - keep it up MT and do it early in the game so there's actually points on the board.

Id be fine with him totally refuting everything said on these boards... he could start by winning another damn super bowl... or at least a playoff game

Was gonna say, that’s a new attitude after 17 years.
well there are always those time where in 3rd and 2 the O goes for a deep pass down the sideline. So maybe is not the conservative but the Dumb playcalling

What I currently HATE is our super scaredycat Red Zone offense.
We are petrified of throwing a pick so its always Run, Run, then either another run or a low percentage, safe fade or out or a pass behind the LOS…

It's terrible and it shows they have no faith in the quarterbacks and wide receivers.

The zero usage of Washington is mind blowing as well.

Let’s see what Tomlin does this weekend vs a quality defense, I’d be happy to be proven wrong but I smell some living in his fears Saturday

Remember this is the QB he refused to play until he had literally no other choice with plays called by the replacement of a guy he should have fired years ago

NICE definitely d Coolie, thanks for posting.!!!

I love that sideline banter stuff, with today’s technology VS the 70s it’s night and day difference on game tangents.

Salute the nation
The problem is it's like reality tv...in that it's not real. They know the cameras and mics are on them so they act according to what their image is.

Cowher if you notice in his later years would spit and jut out his jaw to the point he had drool running down his chin at times...LOL..he was doing it purposely to exaggerate that image.

Tomlin of course dumps Tomlinisms on his players...par for the course.

The only time it gets real is when there is a big emotional outburst like AB and the Gatorade jug, stuff like that. Mike Ditka blowing up at reporters and speaking his true thoughts.

It could be, but I bet it's what the national sports outlets are saying. He also might be playing on the word conservative...as in conservative vs. liberal as he caught a lot of crap for the shirt he was wearing with the justice, freedom, etc. stuff on it and the outrage was reported all over. And the reason I make that linkage is because "conservative and scared" is the main right wing populism tenet. You know scaring white Republicans with brown people, black people...the border...be scared, be very scared they're coming for you. All that stuff.... wouldn't put it past Tomlin.

Mind you I'm an Independent...just saying before I get called a communist like last time by someone here for not agreeing with some extremist observation they made..LOL.

What I was referring to in my comment above was :06 - :11 in the video. And also his "Play to win" comment. It just seemed weird to me and almost like he emphasized it because the mic was hot. We say all that stuff regularly here. I could be wrong though because I'm wrong a lot.

I hear ya. It just reminded me of the jabs he took at Bradshaw in the past. He'll say stuff like that and veil it so as not to look like he's being petty when in actuality he is.

When it comes to words MT is an expert and knows exactly what he's saying and doing. X's and O's, not so much.
Exactly. That's what I was going to say also that he can think up stuff like that to throw it back at people, now if he only put that kind of thought into x's and O's...LOL... That "conservative and scared" line didn't debut on the sidelines, he mentioned it in interviews prior to the game. That's why I thought it might be political and reactionary because of the shirt outrage as he kept harping on it.

Washington is slow and a horrible route runner… he only has one or two pass plays he is capable of succeeding at..

This guy is a future tackle..

It sure sounds mysteriously similar to Cowher in the 2005 playoff run, doesn't it? (i.e. "We aren't gonna handcuff Ben at this point.")

I made these same comments on another board when we drafted him and got crucified for it.

Did coach T look Kenny straight in the eye when he said "Conservative and scared"?
I hope Pickett is reading between the lines when he hears coach T say that to Mason.
Perfectly described how Pickett plays

Pickett is young and insecure about his position with the team. Most people in that situation do EXACTLY as they are told, so as to more likely cement their position. The “phuq it”, ill do what I want, rarely results in a positive outcome. There by reducing your security even more. KP is doing what is his primary direction, do not turn over the ball.

I used to have these same discussions with my son throughout his athletic endeavors before going to college. I coached him in baseball for 10 years, and he played baseball completely different then he did football and basketball. In baseball, we had a game plan every day, but I encouraged him to do what he felt was needed to win. His basketball/football coach was the same person For years, and was a “my way or the highway” coach. They were immediately replaced if they did not follow his directions 150%. As a senior he made the State all-star game, and had a completely different coach. They spent a week “practicing” against the other team. The results were incredible. He played Safety and returner. He had 3 INT’s, one returned for TD and a TD on both kickoff and punt Returns. It was amazing to see, and even better to hear all the community members question our HS coach about how he used my son.

KP just needs to feel more secure in his position and play free. Will he be the next franchise HOF QB for the Steelers? Odds are no, but with him playing scared to turn the ball over he will fail. That is all on Tomlin. A good leader would show him this.

So use those pass plays a couple times a game, until he learns more.

I agree with what you said above about Kenny and I feel like MT gave Rudy a longer leash, because at that point in the season he really had no choice. And maybe he thought Rudy would suck so he'd have a scapegoat if the losing season became reality.

I also feel that MT was pleasantly surprised by the results of putting Rudy in. So right now is all good and the Tomlinisms are in full force once again - unlike the presser when MT acted somewhat humbled.

But, here's another thing to think of. In between Kenny and Mason was Trubisky. Anyone doubt that Trubisky played "free". He was playing so damned free that he gave the other team free takeaways. Kenny has to learn to work in that middle ground between totally free and totally by the books. I feel like Mason understands this. He's been aggressive for sure; when it's the proper time to be. But, he also has placed a premium on ball security (0 INTs).
I think Kenny can get there. We saw it in the preseason. The question for me is will he physically hold up in the time it takes to rework his mindset?

Yeah, I'm not sure if Pickett can hold up. I wouldn't say he's frail, but he's certainly not big.

Mason has had the luxury of learning for 5 years without taking a beating, other than his own helmet.

I hope they finish strong tomorrow. At least they won't have to scoreboard watch. I have this sliver of optimism all things fall into place tomorrow.
