Steel Not A Player

Guest
We need a pass rush OLB. He's only 26, and he's a top 10 sack artist. Good character, and seems like a Steelers kind of guy.

The Redskins need to rebuild after the RGIII disaster. Our first pick is going to be late, so why not trade it for a proven commodity that's still young and rising?

Thoughts?

Is he dramatically better than what we could find for the pick.

He's a veteran and from what we've seen with the Cam Thomas/Tuitt/McCullers fiasco, that means DL would at least put him on the field quickly. Even if there were better rookie options on the roster.

Hang on a minute. IMO, Its too early to call Tuitt and McCullers a fiasco. Thomas maybe, but not the others.

Thomas is a veteran and I would call him a poor signing. Tuitt seems to be coming along just fine and McCullers is learning and developing. I do not think I would call those two a fiasco at this point. They could turn out to be some of the better draft picks we have on the team from a defensive perspective in the last few years. McCullers was a very late Round pick, and Tuitt seems like he has more upside than the player taken ahead of him in the draft and looks to be more promising than either of our outside linebacker prospects Worilds or Jones.

I don't get slamming McCullers and Tuitt. Both guys seem to be coming along nicely. This system takes some time to learn.

As far as Kerrigan being better than the pic, I think he would be. We're putting proven NFL sack numbers on the field with Ryan, rather than gambling on a late first rounder. There are a couple of premier pass rush LB prospects, but they'll be long gone by the time we pick.

I think Kerrigan on the right with Jarvis on the left could be a dynamic tandem. A pure pass rusher combined with a high motor clean up artist. We're going to bring Shazier with some regularity, and that should really shake things up in the pass rush.

I can't imagine the skins would trade him, but I would send maybe a 2nd rounder for him. The bottom line is that we need a new OLB and new corner for next year. One will have to come from FA. If we keep Cortez maybe we start him and Gay.

I would prob go FA OLB and draft a corner. Shamarko will prob take over for Troy.

Was not calling Tuitt and McCullers a fiasco. What I was saying (although hastily and not well) was that it was a fiasco that Cam Thomas was getting so much playing time earlier because he was a veteran when the rookies actually presented an upgrade and had higher ceilings.

no, tell me about them.

Ryan Shazier
Jordan Zumwalt
Jarvis Jones
Vince Williams
Sean Spence
Chris Carter
Jason Worilds
Thaddeus Gibson
Stevenson Sylvester
Bruce Davis
Mike Humpal
Lawrence Timmons
LaMarr Woodley
Rian Wallace
Alonzo Jackson
Larry Foote
Kendrell Bell
Roger Knight
Clark Haggans
Joey Porter

So Woodley and Porter are the only ones that really compare since 99 (unless I missed someone we drafted). He is a top 10 player at his position so I would trade the pick based on our low hit rate at OLB.

We could also try to sign Brian Orakpo on the cheap since he hasn't had his usual success recently

I think we are worse off at corner than we are at OLB vis-a-vis pass rush.

Ok let's look at this besides Porter/Woodley. Haggans, Foote were long time starters on pretty good defenses. Bell was DROY and dropped off after a couple of years. Timmons a starter since day one, possibly MVP of the defense with Heyward. Worlids had his moments, but he is gone after this year.

The last 3 drafts you can only consider Spence and Williams, who have been platooning solidly. Remember Spence is here by a miracle. Next year Jones has to jump considerablely and Shazier has to stay healthy. Zumwalt is unknown, but looks promising.

That's 9 players on the list of you don't count the last two drafts. 3 Pro Bowlers , should be 4. I say that's pretty solid. You can't hit home runs on every pick.

How do two young guys with lots of undeveloped potential get included in the bust catagory with cam thomas? They are rookies who both have shown flashes of what might be. They have NOT stunk up the place like thomas.

My question would be does Kerrigan fit our system? i dont really follow foreskins football . . .

I don't think SteelBuckeye wrote it the way he ment it. I think he is trying to say the fiasco is with the way cam thomas took up playing time from the youngsters. The youngsters played much better and with more potential than cam, even with littler playing time. DL played cam insterad, thus the new OLB Keerigan (veteran), is more apt to get more playing time, than the draft pick we would trade.

Rumor has it, you may not follow it, b ut you do play it, foreskin football that is.......................... LOL J/K (couldn't resist)

Appologies steelbuckeye, i didnt see the your other posts before i reacted . . .its the irish in me. (ok have a field day with that one).

No way the Redskins let Kerrigan go, especially since Orakpo has been so injury prone. No team will let go of a cheap, productive pass rusher with multiple years left on a contract.

.

Kerrigan isn't going anywhere... but, if he were... he sure would look good in place of Worilds!

What have you seen that makes you think Shamarko can take over for anyone? I see a decent ST player...but I have seen nothing in his defensive backfield play that makes me think he will be a starting caliber safety
