We nearly had Chris Johnson instead we got Mendenhall

What a stupid reason to walk away from a player. They couldn’t offer an open sided MRI or request the scans from the NFL and/or combine?

First round runningbacks just don’t really lead to super bowl wins… the year Mendenhall was drafted, Forte, Rice and Charles were second round picks that year … forsett was a seventh… there were a bunch of decent udfa rbs that year too.. Duane Brown went a couple picks after Spindy…its all hindsight, but we could have gotten an upgrade at tackle who was Pro Bowl level and better than every single tackle we have put out on the field since 2008 and who might still be playing iirc… then gotten a productive rb later in the draft

Mike Tomlin is a reader of people and helps mentor youth. It probably wasn't what was said my Johnson, it was probably more on how Johnson said it that turned off Tomlin to immediately end a conversation. There were character issues with Johnson going into the draft, and he was unwilling to give the Steelers a chance to look him over directly since they were considering drafting a RB early.

Still would have loved to have him over Mendy.

I don't want to know about anything your Johnson says.

You prevert.

VERY similar scenario to Harris, we could have gotten Creed.

I hear yayz madinsomniac, but we just have to move forward.

It was Lawrence Timmons who put a drastic hit on Johnson and he never ran the same afterwards For the rest of his career.

Well, I'm as frustrated as anybody about the Mendenhall fumble, he wasn't a bad running back. Overall he was not too shabby.
My take on the Mendy SB fumble is......if Johnson blocks or chips just one of two defenders that he let run right past on eitherside side of him......where they were so close he probably could have kissed them.....the fumble doesn't happen. A tackle for a loss sure, but not the fumble.

Parker has some good articles, but I have to call BS on Chris Johnson’s slant on what happened with the MRI request. First off, Johnson may have been claustrophobic (like many folks), but that’s why the open MRI was developed in the late 80’s and most if not all facilities have them (especially sports franchises with close connections to Senior Tier medical providers like UPMC). Second, for Johnson to do what he said “go straight to the HC”, his agent would have clocked him. The agent would have stepped in to offer alternatives. Finally, third, as Stryker said, Johnson had a ton of character flags due to his growing up in the hood in Orlando FL. I know he was arrested once while a Titan on gun charges and he was shot in a drive by shooting where another passenger was killed in Orlando back in 2015. Then there is the murder for hire plot he arranged in 2020.

So he wasn’t going to be drafted in the 1st by PIT regardless. As for him being a HOF’er? Please, not a snowball‘s chance.

Johnson kind of reminds me of Marvin Harrison, Colts WR who got in a bunch of trouble post football career. Thug while playing and thug while in retirement.

These guys seem to blow through their NFL earnings and seem to think they are bad-***-es and get into drug sales / thuggery / stupid against the law type stuff, thinking they are to big for the law but soon find out their fame is long gone.

Not all players squander, and live life as should be.

Probably Tomlin had the kid figured out from the get go and didn't see the talent was worth the trouble, it was the right move. And I'm not a Tomlin defender

Agreed 100

Lol in that 2005-2010 era of drafted Rbs there might be 4 hof hopefuls… Adrian Peterson is a lock, the other three have cases, but none are sure things Frank gore is 4th all time in yards from scrimmage so he is very probable to get in at some point
Leshawn McCoy is a bubble guy who may get in, and Matt Forte has a small chance as a longshot candidate, though Id doubt it

Chris Johnson might make the hall of above average…

His son is going to light up the NFL. Really high on that kid. He probably will be long gone by the time the Steelers pick whenever he comes out. But he is going to be a top WR in the NFL. Bookmark it bank it take it to sports betters. Yeah that good.

We should had a real FB instead using a TE/as a FB and a finesse TE as FB if you look at the play Mendy doesn't cover well but will Jhonson completely misses his block and its 3-1 this is just piss poor blocking

just google Mendenhall fumble and u will see how the fb/te completely lets 2 guys come at full speed untouched

Whiff Johnson.....my head still aches when I hear that name.

Did he release any wrap albums after his NFL career ended?

I fortunately live equally distanced between three franchises, Nashville being one of them. So all the media attention is available easily. Johnson was a lightning rod for some fans and media members.

Always disliked the Oilers from the old AFC Central days with Bum Phillips. The early Jeff Fisher coached teams in Nashville I had respect for as they were similar to Cowher’s teams in toughness. Unfortunately, I have to deal with all the fan bases too, although the other two aren’t bad. The Titans on the other hand are second to the Browns fans in arseholeism. It’s great every time PIT plays in those three stadiums as it’s overrun by Steeler fans. Totally pisses off the local fan bases.
