Trai Essex was on the SN Draft show last night and he liked the picki cant say i dont see the reasoning behind this pick. And that's a very good thing at the least.
They are trying to address the elephant. The front office wants Pickett upright and went into FA to get a few maulers. They pick BJ cause he's huge and could pack on a few pounds in the NFL. The coaches saw tape on him pulling out and driving LBers into the dust. Explosive hands is what the word is.
The more and more i see of BJ on tape, the more i hate this pick.
BJ could even have that kind of power and translate it into the NFL game but it's highly doubtful he's gonna roadgrade anybody based on what his tape shows. That's just my opinion. i consistently see that BJ lunges, head down and all. And BJ often stands up the most powerful of DL on running plays but BJ does not get any leverage whatsoever. Like... ever. it's truly pitiful.
And so i would never accuse BJ of being a "people mover".
Unless the coaches think they can change BJ's game and clean all that crap off of him, i think this pick was pure garbage. Dan Moore Jr., your spot is still very safe at LT.
This was a great pick for the Steelers. Young, big, strong, athletic OT who started three seasons for the Bulldogs who happened to be national champions last two years.
If it helps recover the 4th or maybe another 3rd, go for it but I hope it only drops us down a couple spots so we can still get someone who could've went in R1.Now they will trade 32.
I think you mean Dotson. Worst OL on the team last year. There’s a holding penalty on his play….. it’s called on OT Dan Moore. Drive over.
We agree on something.I hear you. It's my opinion and i could wrong as hell.
If you think Jones is going to be bench-warmer Jesus-F'ing-Christ terrible, and that Dan Moore is going to to look like a god compared to him, I'm not quite sure I even have any words for you. But I'll try these:steelreeling said:And still i think this kid is gonna be terrible. Really. Not just bench-warmer 2 years-still learning bad, i mean JFC bad.
BJ looks like he wins all the time based on leaning on guys with a heavy frame; getting a wedge on a guy and lifting him around.
i just think when BJ gets to the NFL, it's gonna be a rude awakening that he cannot dominate players with physicality like he's been doing. i think BJ is gonna whiff way too often and Moore is going to look God-like in comparison.
Again, maybe the kid gains weight and starts sitting back in his haunches and stops lurching. The SEC has top-shelf DL for sure. So you know BJ has got all the physical tools to make it.
i agree with everything you said. Truly. Johnson's powerful punch is what most everyone says stands out.I thought BJ was the safest pick at LT by a mile… I went through dozens of scouting breakdowns…
Peter Skoronski was the most technically sound but had some length questions that might get him kicked inside.
Antwon Harrison was the next most polished guy, but he didn’t have the physical ceiling of the other top guys. He also was better in Pass Protection than runblocking
Paris Johnson had all the physical traits but he had some questions about hand use that won’t matter to some teams, but it seemed like a big deal for our system at least
Darnell Wright was never going to be a LT… he was exclusively a RT…
Broderick jones graded out better as a runblocker than a passblocker but still seemed to have an ok grade there. He had a good combine. His overall grades ranged from the mid 20’s to the top ten based off of like a dozen different scouting rankings…
He has star upside but a good starter floor.
The important thing to note is he only has 19 starts under his belt… so he definitely has some technique to refine, but the stuff he is best at are the things that our new blocking scheme requires the most
His punch technique is what probably sold us on him… like Cowher’s Erhardt blocking scheme would want Paris Johnson and Arians would want Skoronski or Antwon Harrison… this guy could work in those schemes but he is going to be better rated in this punch centric monstrosity we are utilizing…
Lets hope he is a transformer and turns into a stud. Also, Pickett sustained three concussions last season. Two concussions already for Kenny Pickett. If he's is your franchise QB you protect him with a stud OT. Thrilled with the pick. No brainer for me.
18 years ago. ASNF: 'A Supe never forgets'reeling also had a **** fit over the injured TE we picked in the first a few years back.
i think that dude turned out ok, maybe even pretty good.
Jones will be better than "pretty good"
Who is Johnson? And what skies?i agree with everything you said. Truly. Johnson's powerful punch is what most everyone says stands out.
i just cannot get over how easily defenders shed his ***. How many times Johnson is over his skies on a wide variety of blocks and ends up falling down on his ***.
And the way in which he engages let him bully and ragdoll DL - but that dont usually work worth a damn in the NFL. In the big-leagues the DL and OLBers are usually strong enough to toss OL who try that.
yeah okay i meant Jones.Who is Johnson? And what skies?
And skis.yeah okay i meant Jones.
Only a Ricky Williams type of offer would make me trade one of them...No way I would trade either of my second round picks. There's absolutely no reason to.
Good thing Coach Tomlin signed off on the trade but your late authorization still means a lot.Nice pick. He was the best player on the board for us, and one of target guys. We had to trade up a bit and give a 4th round pick to get him. I'm okay with that.
okay spellcheck.And skis.![]()
