Coughlin as he watches the 2017 Giants' season unfurl into the pile of dogshit we see before us. . .

This is just the Giants version of the Colts “Suck for Luck”. They are tanking on purpose, especially going with Geno. They probably have their eye on one of the top QBs in the draft. They don’t typically draft high so this is their chance to land Manning’s replacement.

they are just tanking it, also with a ****** Oline and no weapons it's probable that Eli ends up in a hospital so maybe they think they better save him for next season when they could be competitive

....for Geno Smith....good ******* grief how stupid is this move. I'd want out if I was him. Denver could certainly use him.

It’s time for Eli to get on with his life’s work.

I feel bad for Eli. I think he is stuck on a **** team and is being used as a scapegoat. I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a couple more decent years for another team.

If they had an interesting prospect behind him. But Geno Smith. Cmon. That is simply disrespectful.

I don't know why it's so hard for folks to see this. They want to finish in the bottom 3, so they have a shot at a top qb prospect.

Eli will go to Denver like his older brother did and will win another trophy. Wouldn't that piss off the Giants fans. This benching is all about the owner and not the coach. The coach is on the hot seat and Eli gives them the best chance to win. He was told it's time to move on. But, the move to Geno makes no sense. You at least want to see what Webb has before you go taking a QB with your top 5 pick.

Eli is not the problem with the Giants. The problem with the Giants is that in recent years they signed HUGE $$$ PLAYERS with even BIGGER EGO'S.....Oliver Vernon, Damon Harrison, Jenoris Jenkins, Rogers Cromartie, ODB, Brandon Marshall and when they are loosing their egos are OUTTA CONTROL. They become a cancer to the team and the negative effect they have on the young guys in that locker room creates a snowball effect. There is very little veteran leadership on that roster besides a few players to reign in those guys that become nothing but trouble in the locker room when things go wrong....then ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!

Combine that with piss poor coaching and it's not all McAdoo's fault either....they need a whole new coaching staff.

It's a slap in the face to their franchise QB and it shows how st00pid they truly are when they start Geno Smith over Eli Manning a two time Super Bowl winner and two time Super Bowl MVP too.

This makes the Bills decision to start Nathan Peterman over Tyrod Taylor almost look justifiable.

rebuilding with their new kid?? They are starting Geno ******* Smith!!!...

Smith is merely a bridge to Davis Webb.

They're interested in Webb, not Smith, as a possible heir apparent to Manning.

As soon as Smith struggles - likely sooner rather than later - then they go to Webb.

Eli gives them the best chance to win.....which they obviously don't want..this is a secure a higher draft pick move ..If they really want to see other QB's put in Webb we all know Geno is crap why do they need to prove that again..Will be a huge housecleaning with the Giants at the end of the season. Really don't understand why they didn't move Eli before the trade deadline ...you could see this move coming since week 5

Long overdue.

He hasn't been effective at all.

It’s apparent what they’re doing here. They have zero chance with Smith and Webb so the plan is to play for the future. Meaning the next franchise
QB in the 2018 draft. The ****** part of it, they’re using Eli to accomplish this.

He’s the least of their problems with a bad OL, average receivers with Beckham out, and you punish Eli?

He’s a class act and a total team first guy that some on the Steelers could learn a thing or two from.

I hope if he plays next year that he asks for his release and ends up on a team with talent where he has a chance to succeed. He still can play.

rebuilding with their new kid?? They are starting Geno ******* Smith!!! This move makes absolutely no sense. First, Eli's top three WR's are out for the year, their best weapon is a rookie TE that's inconsistent at best. They have no running game, their OL is a wreck, and because the offense is so bad, the D is on the field way too often and makes them look bad.

Starting Geno does absolutely nothing to solve any of the problems with the Giants, and they aren't even "seeing what they have in him" as he has already shown he has absolutely nothing. He was the worst QB in preseason, and most were expecting him to get cut. How he even made the final 53 is a mystery. It's a dumb dumb move.

Maybe I'm a conspiracy nut Insaniti but this kinda makes sense to me.

In the article it says...

It's doubtful Smith is the long-term answer at quarterback. He struggled in his first two years with the New York Jets in 2013 and 2014 and has made one start in the last three seasons.

New York may use this opportunity to get a rough idea whether Webb is worthy of being a starting quarterback in the NFL.

The Giants selected Webb with the 87th overall pick in the 2017 draft. In his first two years at Texas Tech, Webb threw for 5,257 yards, 44 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. Webb spent his final season at California. His 4,295 passing yards were sixth-most in FBS, and he was tied for eighth in passing touchdowns (37)

A 2-9 Gints team pulls their ineffective franchise QB midseason to test the validity of their backups just screams of a huge rebuilding project. I can see them cutting Manning to save as much cash as possible, boost their draft potential by not worrying about those silly W's and putting young Davis Webb under the lamp for a look see before they commit to their draft priority's.

Another comment that stands out...

Dan Duggan@DDuggan21

Jerry Reese on the decision to bench Eli. This is obviously not a decision McAdoo made alone
in another quote...

McAdoo said he made the decision to start Smith over the weekend, and co-owner John Mara and general manager Jerry Reese were in agreement.

So I'm not alone in this conspiracy theory. It's not just a coach going rogue but a team mgmt decision.

Hey it's not like I haven't been wrong before but sometimes there are tell tale signs that jus can't be ignored....jus sayin'

...and I'm not sayin' it was a smart decision either.

"This is so much bigger than Eli Manning," Warner said. "This is about an entire organization that has gone sideways. If you've got one guy that represents what this organization has been about and the character and the success of this organization, it's that guy that has been under center in Eli Manning. He's never done anything but show character and do things the right way."

J-ville and Denver must be licking their chops.........

as in off-season trade ?

They should be playing Davis, a very good looking rookie for the rest of the season. Playing Smith is a waste of time. Yes, I do think Eli will be traded.

Its disgraceful that they are benching him when he isn't the issue. Get him some weapons and an offensive line. He's got no one to get the ball to.
I couldn't agree more, and it's not like they are benching him for someone they drafted in the first round and may be their future, they're starting Geno Smith🙄. I think it's a pretty ****** way to treat a guy that helped bring two rings to your organization. What would it hurt to let him finish the season as starter?

They are devastated with injuries. Eli is NOT the problem. This is a slap in the face and an insult. Almost as bad as if they traded him to the Chargers for Phillip Rivers! :)
