What needs adjustment post game 3.

100% agree that Steelers running 1-2 formation need to have Metcalf and Austin both on the field in their base setup. Doing so is common sense since the "loss" consists of downfield blocking by Austin instead of a #3 TE, but that doesn't matter since Steelers RB's are never in the secondary. The gain is having two competent wide receivers on the field along with Smith or Washington, Freiermuth and Warren, giving the team 5 potential receivers on any given play. That approach is so common sense that it defies logic why it would not be done.

So it won't be done.

The same logic to your scenario is they have a harder time stacking the box, against the run.

Author Smith needs to mix that 1st & 2nd down up a little more on run / pass percentages.

Unless the rookie RB is hurt there is zero reason he only has 2 carries this season.

Rookie RBs getting reps all around the league, some drafted after KJ. Dude was a stud last year, really hope he gets a shot. The KR experiment was a joke, did he get a single attempt in preseason?

This team is so poorly run.

DK sports has said a couple of times he isn’t getting the job done in practice with pass protection, if that’s the reason he’s not out there I get it.

It’s on the player and the coaches to get him where he needs to be with that

Pass pro is what you need from your 3rd down back, not the lead dog. They had a 14-0 lead yesterday, perfect opportunity to let the kid run down hill and build confidence.

How many preseason snaps did he get? How many with the first team O line? Hes a zone runner and he needs those reps.. He cant be the 3rd down back due to pass blocking and the other 2 are much better than him.
just 2 cents.

Better at what? KJ was fine in the preseason with the starting OL. Kaleb is the best natural RB on the roster by far. Warren runs really hard but often right into the backs of his linemen. He has no downshift. Gainwell is a career backup.

He is also in the dog house for pass pro. THAT is what is keeping him off the field. If you only put him when running that becomes a really big tell.
Giant's rookie is playing and his pass blocking is said to be a liability for him. He is doing a decent job running the ball though. Go figure.

Ya know what kills me? They drop back into zone coverage and stand there. THEN then they are surprised when the guy standing 8 ft right in front of him,, catch the pass and they have to "tackle " them.

Yep. Been years where the Steelers zone consists of covering grass or field turf rather than a receiver.

Yep. Last 2 games, 21 for 105, 2 TD's, 8 pass receptions.

Genius Mike thinks that Johnson sitting on the bench and watching will make him better. If that is the case, he should start me at RB - I've sat on my *** and watched the Steelers longer than Tomlin has been alive!

Net yardage IE yards gained by offense minus yards allowed by defense

Only Tenn is worse than the steelers

It also makes zero sense to draft a RB that early and not play him--it's the entire point of drafting a RB that high.

I definitely agree we need to get our WRs on the field. Too much talk of Arthur Smith's offense doesn't need a WR2. It does, he's just never had any good ones and as a result his offenses haven't produced. I think some combination of Austin/Wilson could at least be adequate in that role. Also, can they target Jonnu Smith a little deeper downfield? 5.4 YPC on 12 receptions is awful. That's not the type of usage you expect when you bring him in.

Not surprising. The Steelers have been pretty well handled each week so far. They have enough talent to overcome scheme and once again, they will scratch and claw to wins all while being coached like a bottom-5 team.

This why I like the 3 TE set, it means you are in the jumbo to run, 2 TE can chip and slant, dig, out while Smith and DK can drive mid range. RB can pass protect and leak out. So many options from one base set without subs for no huddle. Sub out a TE for Austin, maybe even sub out 2TE for 3WR set while still keeping The mountain to help Jones until he gets his shyte together.

I will gladly take 5-8 yds a play until the D cheats up then you go over them

That would take a HC that plays to win. Once they were up they started to turtle up and play to not lose.
