There was no choice with Watt, but I'm gonna tell you now it's gonna be pretty damn tough with Minka. He has gotten huge accolades and is gonna want to break the bank himself. But you are gonna be paying Troy Polamalu money (adjusted for inflation) to a better version of Ryan Clark. The guy just cannot influence the play to give him the kinda money he is gonna want.

He is my take on him. The first year was amazing cause we just asked him to play. He didn’t know the book and just balled out. Now he is handcuffed by MT and the DC.

I don't disagree. But are you gonna pay like what 14 million a year for a stay at home Cover two deep safety.

Is MT there? No. If his gone, maybe. QB money would be gone so a couple years of big money on Def vs Qb money. But only if MT is gone

I think they will resign him. You don't trade away a 1st pick and get a player one of the best at his position, to let him go. It won't be TJ money but they will pay him and pay him well.

They just need to get him back playing the way he did when they first acquired him. It seems like the more responsibilities they gave him, the fewer opportunities he has to make plays.

Well of course it won't be TJ money. But Adams gets 17.5 per. You wanna pay that?

Do I want to pay it ? No. Does the Steelers want to pay him that? Probably not. Will they? Not sure what they will pay him but it will be a good chunk.

You better pay Minkah if you want to be relevant in the league...
Meh....his last dozen or so games he has just been simply another player.

The problem is we are always paying players based on their past performance. What do you see that makes you think he will be worth more than we're paying him now or that we will be relevant with or without him? We can be 8-9 with or without him.

They have been moving him around, for me I think he plays better locked in at FS. With Haden out they just tried to utilize him different ways.

In Minkahs first year seemed he was playing more instinctive. Tomlin and Butler seemed to ruin his last year. This year is a bit of a mixed bag. I thought first game he was good. Today was hit and miss, but we had a lot of people out. I would try to sign him. I think he is one of the top players if used properly. This D can be great, but they are on the field way too much. If the offense doesn't stay on the field our D will be done by mid season.

Without a great pass rush he is just a guy. He is not Troy 2.0 in any shape or form

He doesn’t have the overall playmaking of Adams… that guy basically plays blitzing linebacker a decent portion of the time… you probably are talking 16 to 17 though

In fairness he is not being used like Troy, but on the flipside Troy was one of the best ever so that is setting an extremely high bar for Minkah. Minkah has Butler / Tomlin while Troy had LeBeau...

Minkah has got the pro bowl /all pro pedigree which his agent will be trotting out. The one year it was deserved. Not so much the last.

you pay Minkah.

Minkah and TJ are our building blocks on Defense.

Ok but at the very height of his ability Troy made 8.5 million in 2010. So you double that because of inflation in the game to 17 which is what you are looking at with Fitzpatrick. Minkah doesn't have close to the impact. Not in the rhelm.

Troy was the second highest paid safety that year. You can't compare 2010 salaries to 2021 or 2022. The top QB was McNabb at 25 mil. Now we have TJ making that. You can argue impact and I agree, but Minkah is young and has shown he can be an impact player. Coaches need to wake up and use him better maybe give him some of the freedoms Troy had. Troy also had a better secondary to work with which also aided in his ability to free lance or gamble. Minkah is not Troy no safety in the league is like Troy or Ed Reed. However he is still considered one of the better ones in the league and will get paid accordingly

Ok but look at your math. Double McNabb is 50 million. Double Troy and you get Minkah. But the problem is Minkah cannot effect the play anywhere near what Polamalu did. So you have to decide if you are gonna tie up 40 million a year on an Edge and a Safety.
