I'm really not sure where I stand with him. I can't remember seeing one player run the gamut from invisible to dominant like him. One one hand, he is worthless on the right side. I frequently mistook him for Chris Carter on the right. Too insistent on the bull rush, gets swept wide easily.

On the left, he's a monster. He terrorized Jason Campbell in Browns 1 in a manner that i've never seen Woodley do on his best day. He was feasting on the Browns RT. I Thought Cam was part of the reason, but Ziggy took a good chunk of snaps at LDE. Not a lot of sacks, but he was constantly touching and knocking Campbell down. He knocked him out of the game once too.

When he played on the left, he was electric. Unfortunately his body of work that season was so small, and he was injured the final game of the season. I think if he can stay on the field he's going to have a monster 2014.

This season will tell the story. Obviously, if his play is good, PAY the man. If not, weight out what it is and make an offer.

That shouldn't be too hard, we just released a guy like that last year. He wore #56. 6 games a year he's Dwight Freeney. The other 10, you are wondering if he missed the plane and is currently walking around in the airport somewhere.

reminds me of Dumervill off the edge

He is still unproven. Likely a mistake to throw big money at him...but the front office needs experience at the position. That is all he offers at this point.

.

I wonder if moving Heyward to the other side of the line will hinder his play . . .

I was wondering the same thing. I guess what I am hoping for is that WORILDS is the beast... making it easier for whoever plays LDE.

I hate the transition tag on him.

It's Max Starks all over again. We didn't draft an OLB, so we almost HAVE to franchise tag him next year if we don't accept his contract terms. He's practically guaranteed 2 years at $20 million now as a starting point of a contract. If you're his agent you don't accept anything less. Why? The Steelers have no depth at OLB and even an average season (8-9 sacks) demands the Steelers franchise him or have no one on the roster.

I thought 6-years, $43 million with $21 over the first 3 seasons was a fair offer as a free agent but the transition tag combined with our current depth chart makes that an impossible deal to have Worilds' agent accept. First, he'll never accept a 6-year deal. Second, he's probably looking at more money in the first 3 years just by standing pat and playing it out.

I just never see the transition tag working like Colbert thinks it's going to.

True ^^^^ but the "equalizer" could be coming...and his name is Deebo. We could pull a Bucky Brooks and put Deebo and Worilds on the right with Jarvis at left (hell, he might do better over there too?) In ANY case, having Deebo in a rotation w the other 2 will definitely 'force' the issue w Worilds/Jones. If you cannot beat out a 35yr old silverback who was locked in a cage w no bananas last year...your not going to look so good on the open market next year. We still get production either way AND we have more control over his value to other teams.

Moats can play OLB in a pinch, but I'm not sure I'd consider him "above the line" as Tomlin so often likes to reference.

I thought Moats was better suited for ILB in our system, but Tomlin loves him some runner-hitters now and Moats isn't that. With the Shazier pick, not sure Moats would even be on the ILB depth chart (probably Spence and Williams are ahead of him) and there might be a chance Zumwalt beats him out for his 4th OLB spot (Zumwalt could be a lot better at special teams).

The transition tag for this year is a good insurance policy this year. We still do not know what we really have in Worilds. If he is good he will be worth the money if not we get rid of him and don't carry any dead money. We have the makings of some flexible personnel groupings now and in the future. It looks like we could go 3/4 or 4/3 with our line and linebackers. The D line has some very good looking prospects of very large and fast guys. I think Tuitt is fast as well as big and could be a super size de in a 4/3. Heyward is big and fast. Dig dan could be a major force after development. And there are a few more on the team. Some could only play dt or 3/4 end but we have a couple of guys that could do either nose or DT so there is some real flexibility there. In looking at 4 on 5 there maybe more than one that needs to be doubled so that could take us back to the days of the steel curtain when 4 guys were all the rush that was needed most of the time. The flexibility I am referring too is just based on size and speed and does not take into account skills or lack there of which are important to be able to play the position.

As to Worilds they may be able to replace him with Timmons if he is not what we need and if Timmons is not the ILB we need. He Timmons was drafted to play outside but was unable to replace Harrison and Woodley seemed much better at the time. He could go back. If both Spence and Shazier are able to play inside at a high level that might mean a better spot for Timmons OLB that will primarily work his physical talents and minimize his mental short comings.

do you think moats can play olb ?

What I heard from some steeler talking heads ,, was that Moats was an OLB at Buffalo ,, they moved him inside and he did worse.. So we were going to use him as OLB but also as back up inside.

who is the 3rd ? worilds , jarvis jones , ???, zumwalt

Worilds is not worth a huge contract. He has had one good half a season. Sorry, but, as a businessman, I would not put up a huge contract based on that alone. He sucked in the other times he played. So, he has more bad play under his belt than good.

Now, he is injured. He should think about a lesser offer for the guaranteed money, if the Steelers even offered him anything. An injury this early just shows that nothing is guaranteed to him other than this years salary.

Of course health is the ultimate factor...

But with that said, if he is healthy all season, I predict potential Pro-Bowl consideration. I like the kid, and think if we leave him on the right side, he can achieve double-digit sacks this season.

I also wish we could of re-signed Ziggy...I believe he could of helped us, as he was starting to find himself. I like him better, sitting here today, than Cam Thomas...by far..

steelers are on the hook for what ? 9 million this season for worilds.... unless im mistaken.

How do they .. do they even,,, change the contract for more years and worth less/ year? or does he keep the current contract and play it out for a FA deal next year?

TMC would know... wish people didn't piss him off.

His current contract is a 1-year, $9.75 million that is for all intensive purposes, guaranteed (i.e. we can't cut him in pre-season and save that money).

However, as with every contract, the parties can both agree to "Rip it up" and sign a new contract to replace it. It is the terms of the new contract that is the "negotiation" and which (in my opinion) the Steelers have lost a lot of leverage. As you elude to, what type of deal would convince Worilds not to pocket almost $10 million this season (weekly checks of $575,000 for 17 weeks) and become a free agent AGAIN in 2015?

Obviously for Worilds, the key points are a) how much more guaranteed money or how much money over the next 2-3 years can I get and b) can he negotiate terms that force another contract before he is 30 years old (you can do this with either a shorter deal or unrealistic salaries late in the contract).

The Steelers are probably at a "limit" number on both issues that they feel is fair. We'll see if they can come to a middle ground.

Let him play it out. He still has alot to prove. Like staying healthy for 16 games. No 2 can he bring it like he did the second half of last year.

At this point I would rather Worilds play this tag out and try to extend him next year or let him walk. No more over paying and giving these big deals for one year worth of play.

Chris Carter

carter is a non factor he will batlle with zumwalt for a special team duty , to me moats is the first backup olb on both side , unless they move timmons

I highly doubt they will be moving Timmons. He originally was drafted as an OLB, switched to inside. Now has that position locked down.

This sums up exactly how I feel. I like Worilds and I would totally try and crack an early deal at a discount but if he want lots of cash then he can play it out and walk.
