Most Americans have no idea how much they have benefited from the greenback as the global reserve currency since Bretton Woods stopped in 71. 50 years of USD hegemony because of the work of the most important US politicians since WWII: Nixon and Kissinger. Forcing the Arabs to commit to USD for oil by supporting Israel and keeping the ME teetering has been hugely beneficial to all Americans.

That seems likely to be over now, and classical economics will again matter.
