Who is your "no, just no" guy in the 1st round?

The Cowboys threw 637 passes in 2024, the Steelers threw 550 last year, a crap ton at or behind the LOS.

I'm fine with KC, just not in the first. That's a Terrelle Edmunds/Artie Burns type pick.
Right. And who was coaching the Cowboys in 2024? The same guy who's with the Steelers this year.

Germie Bernard...

I think he is a definite possibility at 53. Steelers had him in for a late visit, which at this point means he is very much on their radar and they are setting their draft board with him on it. I think Bernard is a pretty good pick since he blends good size, quality route-running and really good hands. He is a perfect Z receiver, and possible Y. Having Metcalf, Pittman and Bernard would give the team an excellent trio where basically all three are qualified to play slot, Metcalf and Pittman can play X, Pittman and Bernard can play Y.

I think the bottom line is that without an Oline we could have 3 #1 Wrs and it would not matter especially if Rodgers is back. We can find a WR#3 in the later rounds or through a pickup. Solidifying the Oline should be priority #1. Just go back and watch the Texans game

True.
Same reasoning can be said for the line on the other side of the ball.

Just go back and watch the Texans game.

It's not expecting disappointment...I've seen draft analysts already start to express there'll be upwards of 8 QBs in the first round. If there are 4-5 that is an extremely deep draft. As of today, only Manning and Moore are first-round prospects. The rest need to develop quite a bit to move into that territory.

People thought Lanorris Sellers would improve with another year…he did not
People thought Allar would up his stock…he did not

The half breed Manning still hasn’t shown he’s worthy of being a first overall pick like so many here were predicting he’d be this year…he may just as easily be at his ceiling as ever becoming first overall worthy.

But yeah, just like every year….next year’s QB crop will be fantastic 🤪

Funny thing is the “next year” teams will never get their QB
I did see a sign yesterday reading “free beer tomorrow” at my favorite watering hole…can’t wait to go back today and cash in!!!!

Generally agreed, and here we are.

Given that the fix: strength in the trenches, then the franchise QB, etc.
the Steelers are still in that foundational building phase, so they have to make some strategic choices. Unfortunately, most of their first round picks have been unable to meet these needs.

In 8 days, we will see the directional plan of the team. My guess is that do a bit of everything in the top 100, hopefully grabbing BPA & character guys.

It doesn't seem like QB Simpson is much different than KFP, so he'd be the "just say no" guy for me.

I wonder if a fresh set of coaches focusing on development and players natural strengths might not simply lead to better scheme success.

Go Steelers!

Thing is that next year is an unknown, this year is a certainly though. A 4th rounder? Yeah why not, but premium picks on flawed projects is a no no

Some are worried about Concepcion and drops. Then, you need to be just as concerned with Cooper. He has the same negative in his reviews.

DK has always had drop issues. Pittman is the only one who is supposed to have reliable hands.

Totally agree
I don’t want them to force a pick based off need

But a 3rd rounder or a couple late flyers if guys are still there…hell yeah with the number of swings they’ve got this year.

I keep hearing Germie Bernard is the best route runner in the draft and a good run blocker, reminds people of Juju. Perfect guy for WR3 and doesn't need to be picked in the 1st round. If they can swing big Vega in the 1st and that guy on day 2, would be thrilled.

I could see it going something like this:
1. Vega, OG
2. Bernard, WR
3a. Scott, DB
3b. Tiernan, OT
3c. Allar, QB

I am not as high on Bernard as some others are. Sort of meh for me.

I’m not real high on Cooper.. actually believe his wideout teammate, Sarratt will make a better pro..

If people thought LaNorris Sellers was going to be ready to be a high draft pick in 2026 as a redshirt sophomore at the age of 20, people were stupid. If people thought Drew Allar was going to be a top ten pick, people were ignorant. Anybody who watched the semifinal game against Notre Dame without Blue and White glasses on could see that he was an overrated choke artist.

The half breed Manning finished pretty strong last year with 14 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in his last 6 games, and he ran for 155 yards in the Citrus Bowl against Michigan. I wouldn't bet against him.

It isn't like this every year. I don't remember anybody predicting a strong QB crop when Pickett came out.

We need a guy to pair with the 2 big bodies we now have on the outside. We need that explosive guy (fast and quick) who can get RAC yards running slants, etc. Tomlin has been afraid to run those plays, but MM is not. Whoever that guy IS, get him.

Agreed…
I do like using a third on Bell from Connecticut to fill that role..
However, it looks like the young man is really moving up the draft chart recently.. if we want him, we might have to use the second round on him and I’d rather have a solid run stopper, especially at inside linebacker to fill our second round slot

Your thinking is solid, SD, but the problem is the draft is pretty thin at ILBer. Styles will be gone by 21, Rodriguez is just not worth a pick that high. Maybe Hill from Texas in the 3rd? Issue with Hills is that sometimes he looks like Tarzan, but defending the run he plays too much like Jane, looking to avoid contact rather than initiating with the blocker. Possible he needs better instruction and his tools are certainly there.

I agree about the depth with inside linebacker in this draft…
I wouldn’t mind Hill but would prefer Trotter ahead of him, if we can’t get Rodriguez..
Lastly,,, I absolutely love your Tarzan and Jane analogy lol..
I believe someone on this board used that one recently?! 😉

I referenced one mock of 2022 done right after the 2021 draft. Rattler and Howell 1 & 2, 5 QBs taken in the top 15.

Haven't you learned that I'm the Bama guru around here???

I said this months ago.

Keep up, Spanky!!!
