With the draft under a week away, maybe it's time to make your prediction for the first round. For me personally, this is one of the most difficult first round predictions. A lot of uncertainty as to which players will be available and how that factors in with the needs of this team. They will usually not reach for a need, instead trying to stick to the BPA theory. Trades in the first are few and far in between with this team. I would assume this year will be no different. I will add this though. If there was ever a year to trade down in the draft, it is this year as there is a ton of value to be had in rounds 2-4. With that said, here's my prediction for round one...

1-25-Taylor Decker- Ohio State

I have a feeling that the players we've all been looking at in the first(Jackson, Apple, Billings, maybe even MacKensie) will be gone by the time the Steelers pick. Burns, Joseph, and Neal are possibilities but I think BPA will dictate this pick. Won't be popular with the fans but you end up taking a pretty good player in case Villanueva falters or there is an injury to OT. I've never bought into the thought that there is already a player at that position so they shouldn't make that pick. Adding a superior talent is still adding talent. So there you go. Who's your pick?

I will say Eli Apple because he's a buckeye and we love us some buckeyes. He also is a need though I doubt he contributes much this upcoming year.

I wanted one of the top 4 corners but since dipshit Hargreaves tested positive at the combine, he may fall out of the first round and cause us to lose out on a chance to get a CB in round 1. Hopefully, someone in the top 15 will still take a chance on him and leave Jackson or Apple for us. I definitely think we need to finally go CB in round 1. It's been way too long and if one of the top 4 guys are there, we have to take them.

So, who's your pick?

In order of availability, presuming we don't trade down:

- WJIII
- Billings
- Calhoun
- Butler
- Spence
- Apple

I think Billings could give the Steelers a front three that could hide the fact that they don't have a premium ROLB pass rusher. But I could easily live with WJIII. Then take a tackle in the second. Draft is supposed to be rich in interior lineman.

I perdict the usual.

none of the guys we want will be there.
Top CBs all gone
DTs all gone
OTs gone

Noah Spence will be our guy.

Half the board will immediately go into another epic meltdown.
25% of the board will be optimistic
15% of the board will dip between melting down and being optimistic
10% of the board will still not know who our draft selection is

Please just 1 name as to who you think will be the pick.

I'm with Coolie 100%. Jackson or Billings. NOT APPLE! I'd actually be "okay" with Spence.

Just one name - Jackson

I've been saying this for a while now...just my gut feeling...it will be Spence....

I predict supe will be in the 10% who don't know what is going on...he will be too busy servicing sheep with SDS

have ewe seen those sheep? the wool this time of year feels great on a shorn scrotum. the one on your chin would love it.

Always someone there who slides it seems like someone we didn't expect. Draft is deep at DL, so I expect one to fall...

So my gut tells me it will be D-lineman...

Billings

It was a false report.

My thought is the Steelers draft Karl Joseph

Billings then Jackson for me
I agree, it's basically a toss up btwn those two for me. I'm 99% sure neither will be there at #25, thus I've developed a soft spot for an edge rusher such as Shilique Calhoun as a darkhorse pick. I'd prefer him a round later, but I'm 99% sure he won't be there for us at the bottom of the 2nd. Which tells me we'll probably miss out on all three. ;)

I think this fits the profile -- great value (a prospect that might well have been considered neck-and-neck with Ramsey if not for the injury) at a position of need. Very reminicent of the year they drafted Miller, who couldn't work out during the pre-draft process but was too good to pass up when he fell towards the tail end of the 1st. They could probably still land Joseph at #31 if the stars align and they are able to trade back with Denver.
