Why I question Tomlin as a head coach.

wow another "I hate Tomlin" thread
Never said I hated the guy, he is probably a great person, good family guy, probably a hoot to listen to when he has been drinking...but I definitely question his abilities as a head coach and this article explains a big reason why. There always seems to be an excuse for not making necessary adjustments in game, and then he attempts to justify his excuses. He may be a great leader of men, motivator, one of the boys, but when it comes to scheme, X's and O's, and game management, he just always seems to come up flat. If that makes me a hater, then so be it.

So this goes back to my points about him… Tomlin is a really good DC … he can scheme to stop any aspect of an offense, but he uses such specialized personnel to do so that they can be vulnerable against counter attacks they weren’t planning for…

He always has been slow to adapt… he does sometimes change things up, but not until he absolutely has to… and usually we are in a hole by then

Coaches have to adjust in real-time. They can't wait until halftime or if it's in the 2nd half until well into the 4th quarter. They need to see what's happening and adjust. The defensive base scheme also needs to be sound enough to handle some of the changes without need for major adjustments. We never make adjustments quick enough.

3-6 in the playoffs since 2011 and hasn't won a playoff game in 5 years now. #Winning
And in those three wins, two were against backup QB’s and the third the Bungles self-destructed in the last four minutes.

I'm pretty sure he's losing a lot of sleep over what the fans think of him.
I'm pretty sure that Tomlin doesn't lose any sleep, ever, because he's got the most secure head coaching job in the NFL. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if he makes adjustments or not. As long as those non-losing regular seasons keep piling up, why should he bother?

he is just the stereotypical stubborn head coach

That has been my beef. I think he's supremely arrogant and stubborn, much more so than others, and thus the reason we don't see the adjustments. I legitimately think he just thinks "we're the Steelers, if we run into this wall enough times it will eventually fall over". I think he has good qualities and think he's a hoot sometimes, I just also think he's that and is what hurts him.

Wait a minute, speaking of Hoot, where has that SOB been? Or was it Hoot who was irked by all the bickering (like that's something we don't do) and left the board?

I can't remember exactly but I sure liked his input while he was here. I think he had a "life" crisis like maybe family member get sick or something of that nature.

Thanks for the spark mention Steelworth

Salute the nation

I don't hate Tomlin. I think he would be the best coach in the league if he was surrounded by top x and o guys. But part of that is his own ego.

Boom.

Sorry, but I have never liked Tomlin - thought he was a terrible hire from the beginning! I saw right through his total line of "intellectual" bullshit (I had a manager that was exactly like him and a total dumbass on the job - just like Tomlin). I was completely awe struck that he actually won a Super Bowl, but he settled into what I knew he would be right after Cowher's players started to drop off and retire. That **** stick has taken a HOF QB and wasted the last 11 years treading water, all the while making substandard football intellectual fans think he was/is awesome! He is one of the most fundamentally inept football coaches in the league and all the **** he says (excuses he uses) bear that out! He's a total football moron!

Hoot left, I email him here and there. He said to say hello last time to Coolie etc. Oops. 😁 Anywho you can get with me for any additional info by inbox or text. Or leave a message after the beep. BEEP

Dude has lost playoff games to Tim Teabow and Blake Bortles, his defense sucks. He's also unable to massage egos and let's them up and leave the team. His time is up. The Rooneys won't see it that way, but he needs to pack his bags.
