The Pittsburgh Steelers search for a new quarterback won’t be an easy one, but doing their due diligence by seeking for a replacement via free agency could be their answer for the near and distant future.

The best possible option for Pittsburgh could be former first overall pick Jameis Winston as he possesses the most potential amongst all other free agent options.

Despite the struggles early on in his NFL career, Winston has spent time on the sidelines for the New Orleans Saints learning behind future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees and getting a better feel for the game at the highest level. Winston got the starting job in NOLA when Brees retired and looked like a completely different quarterback compared to the seasons he spent in Tampa Bay with the Bucs.

Winston was on pace for the best season of his career throwing 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions along with 1,170 yards across seven games prior to a season-ending knee injury. It was clear why Winston won the starting job last season with the Saints and their was an utter lack of pass-catching weapons around him which would be a nice change of scenery if he were to come to Pittsburgh.

Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and Pat Freiermuth are solid, young options for Winston to have around him along with rookie sensation Najee Harris in the backfield. If the Steelers make signing Winston a priority this offseason, they can focus their attention on bolstering the offensive line which definitely is in need of a drastic turnaround. Winston might not just be the Steelers immediate answer, but if he continues to develop like everyone thought he would, he could be the face of the franchise for years to come.

For the right price? Yep, sign him up. Let all 3 quarterbacks compete in camp and preseason. Pick the best and run with it.Draft the best OL/DL guys you can get in the early rounds. If the season is a train wreck, you're all set for a round one qb next year.

I ask in every thread...based on what we know right now, who are all of these QBs next year who are so much better than the crop we have this year? I don't see it.

Lot of taller prospects with a few top QBs that look like they could be solid QBs in Young and Stoud. By the following draft I bet we are happy with that crop

Google is your friend...

There are at least 4 good to very good QB's coming out next year:

  • Spencer Rattler – QB – Oklahoma.
  • Bryce Young – QB – Alabama.
  • Jeff Sims – QB – Georgia Tech.
  • C.J. Stroud – QB – Ohio State.
  • Tyler Van Dyke – QB – University of Miami.

Young and Stroud are going in the top 3 so they are out of reach.

Rattler lost his starting job and isn't a strong leader. I wouldn't touch him.

Jeff Sims and his 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions along with a career 57% completion percentage?

Tyler Van Dyke is an interesting name. I thought I heard announcers call him a freshman last year, but it must've been redshirt freshman.

Why dont we just wait for the next Manning?
Arch in 2/3 years?

Never playing a college down I predict he will be number 1 overall in the 2025 draft.

Don’t we already have a bust #1 pick from Ohio State on roster?

Agreed. Rattler deservedly lost the starting job to a freshman. He is small, quick but not lightning quick, forces throws too often. He is a slower Kyler Murray, with less accuracy and worse decision-making.

I don’t know that Winston was having the “best” season of his career. His #s were distorted by one game with 5 TDs & it was a small sample size of games.

Kamara also had a significant increase in touches, so he wasn’t dropping back to pass a lot.

Effectively he was year 1 Ben except it was year 7.

Is talent there? Yes. He did throw for over 5000 yards & 30 TDs — but the only story on him was the INTs. Which isn’t fair to focus on one thing & give no credit to the other

No…no…no to Winston. Product of Payton’s system. Also don’t forget Gerogia’s QB Stetson Bennett. He could be worth a look if he declares after a good year. Would hope he adds some height though.

What about that Hooker kid ? Does he come out this year or next? Anywho he didn't have a bad season.

I mean we already have Bush might as well add a Hooker.

🤓

You have to go through the process. The **** could take many years. Just look how long it took to get Ben after Bradshaw. I had a bunch of seasons that before the season started I knew they had zero chance at a superbowl championship. Great defense, great line, great RB, but just didn't have that top notch blue chip qb.

In case you haven't noticed the Steelers have only won superbowls with a hall of fame qb under center. Which seems to be the key for multiple championships. Buckle up. It could be a long bumpy ride.

...but I hope not.

Depending on how we do - Young and Stroud aren't out of reach (unless we win the SB)...

I'm hoping for a 3 win season but somehow we'll win 8 and be facked up in the draft order again...

I did some reading on him today and another knock is he takes the short throws that are schemed up. Threw the ball down field less than half the time compared to his OU counterparts. Though, that's exactly what the Steelers offense is now...

Stetson Bennett is 5'11", under 200 pounds and doesn't have a great arm. He's more likely to be working for some finance firm in NY in five years than an NFL QB.

I personally don't think Winston is even a good backup. I'll stick with Rudy and Haskins thank you.

Winston had the Saints at 5-2 last year with wins over the Bucs, Seahawks, Patriots, and Packers while throwing for 14 TDs to just 3 INTs. In 17 career games Rudolph has 16 TDs and 11 INTs. Winston is at a bare minimum an excellent backup.

He just aint my cup of tea. I don't want him in black and Gold. I hope we stand pat this year and Draft a QB next year. But again ths is just my personal opinion.

You may not like him, but he's better than Rudolph and Haskins.

look at his numbers with the Bucs. 2019 33td and 30 Int. 2018 he was 19td's and 14 int's. his career QB rating is 87.8.

I think given the same chance that Winston had with all the playing time Rudy would put up better numbers, I also do not think Rudolph is the answer to our QB situation either.

Jamis had a good start with the Saints last year but take that away and his career has been lackluster at best.
