Why Jameis Winston is Pittsburgh’s Answer at QB

Stroud will be a stud in the NFL. Mark it down put it in a clear display case with my name permanent marker'd on it.

On the inside or on the outside ?

Winston is my #1 FA target. 14TD to 3TDs in 7 games.

Bill you can't just point to the 5TD game. Other than week 2 when he had 0TDs and 2 INTs, he had at least 1 TD for the rest of his season and only 1 INT in 5 games.

It's like saying Big Ben doesn't break 30 TDs in 18 without his 5TD game or would have had only had 20 TDs in 14' if he didn't have back to back 6TD games. You can't remove stats that a QB made in a game to have it fit a narrative.

Anything better than 31 INTs is an improvement and 3 in 7 games is above and beyond what he ever experienced as a starter. He's starting to trend into a good decision maker that can read a defense, and that's what I want in a young, pocket mobile QB that I bring in to run our franchise.

Plus he'll be cheap. He played for $5.5M last season. I see him being in the $5-8M range to sign this year.

I could get on board with Winston on a 2-3 year deal if the money were right, not a guy I’d break the bank for but it would at least be legitimate competition for Rudy (which is very needed and Haskins ain’t it).

I’ve got a feeling he’s staying in NOLA, but hell get him in for a kick the tires visit if we can.

Winston is not a bad choice. Not a fan of his, but he is way better than what we have. In 2019 he had over 5100 yrds and 33 TDs, but he also throws a lot of INTs. I don't see Rudolph ever sniffing those numbers. Only downside is Winston is not the most mobile QB

look at his numbers with the Bucs. 2019 33td and 30 Int. 2018 he was 19td's and 14 int's. his career QB rating is 87.8.

I think given the same chance that Winston had with all the playing time Rudy would put up better numbers, I also do not think Rudolph is the answer to our QB situation either.

Jamis had a good start with the Saints last year but take that away and his career has been lackluster at best.

Winston brings the biggest upside and skill set for the amount of money spent. Is he perfect, hell no but when money is an issue in respects of how many holes we need filled, Winston is a bargan bin and will sustain us a year or two. I'd sign a 2 year deal worth 17mil

Winston played for 3 HCs in Tampa. Lovie Smith his rookie year when he made the Pro Bowl. Dirk Koetter for 3 years when he stayed even in his stats but played in less games each year. Then one year with Ariens in his chuck and duck offense where he led the league in attempts, yardage, and INTs. Still threw more TDs than INTs in each season he played.

NO was a great situation with an established franchise HC in Peyton, and he grew in that system. Now that Peyton is gone, I don't see Winston tied to NO at all because who knows what offense they are going to run and what QB the new HC wants to tie his career record to. Dennis Allen was a HC with the Raiders and had QBs like: Palmer, Pryor, and McGloin before drafting Carr and getting fired part way through the season. He's defensive minded and will look to rebuild the D first over setting the O.

Winston was hurt in 20 and 21 which now makes me question his durability, but I feel he was progressing well under steady leadership.

Winston and then Trubisky would be my top targets to bring in competition for Rudolph and Haskins.

The Steelers brought in a completely spent Mike Vick, and a never been in Haskins.

Winston won a title in college has had a huge amount of success to anyone on the current roster.
Personally, I'd dance a jig if we somehow ended up with 'Ol Crab Legs at quarterback

Yeah I can Cope.

Simple Quantitative Analysis—you have a 7 game sample size. It’s too small a data set if you’re basing “a career year” off of it.

Its illogical to compare that to Ben throwing 5 or 6 TD games like he has. By the time he had the back-to-back 6 TD games he had 10 years as a starter with 2 Super Bowls and 4 games with 5 TDs. Simply put—he had established himself as a legit Franchise QB. Winston is a long way from that.

Winston needs to rebuild his reputation and it will take more than 1 5 TD game to do that. After all, Mark Malone opened 1985 with a 5 TD performance too. It’s not all that dissimilar than when Matt Cassell became only the 5th QB to attain back-to-back 400 yard games in first year as a starter.

Let’s see if he can revive his career with consistency of performance. I think he can, but remains to be seen.

As far as coming “cheap”… QBs have leverage. QBs with less experience and less accomplishments have been able to leverage themselves into big contracts, see Rob Johnson, Scott Mitchell, Nick Foles, Case Keenum, Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford, Elvis Grbac, and Ryan Tannehill.

The thing about him was that he had a vision issue that was cleared up before last year with laser eye surgery…. So he literally might not have the same physical flaws that produced those first few high interception years ….

I like Stroud, but I'm reserving judgement... He has played one year of college football, and he had a better WR corps than many, if not most, NFL teams. Sure as hell better than the Steelers! He loses 2/3 of them to the first round of the draft this year. See how he does next year.

That guy can fit the long ball into tight windows. I won't say any player is a sure thing. But I am going on record in saying he will be the next big thing. That is including next season. I am all on that kids bandwagon.

The problem with Winston is he'll go from Sean Payton to Matt Canada.

No one here to coach him...he needs a BA or a Payton. Not Canada. He needs someone to mentor him. Such a person is not on the stillers roster. On top of that, he may have a million dollar arm, and supposedly has book smarts, but he has a 10 cent brain when it comes to common sense and maturity. Another qb that could be charged or arrested for whatever at a moment's notice. Even Ben matured ... this cat can't stay outta trouble:

In November 2012, while playing around with B.B. guns on two different occasions, Winston caused $4,200 in damages to a Tallahassee, Fla., complex.
• The following month, a fellow Florida State student, Erica Kinsman, accused Winston of sexual assault. Winston, a freshman at the time, called it consensual and a year later, the State Attorney’s office opted against charging Winston, citing “problematic” testimony by his accuser
In July 2013, Winston was accused of stealing soda from a Tallahassee Burger King. The manager decided not to press charges.
• In April 2014, Winston was suspended from Florida State’s baseball team after shoplifting crab legs from a Publix.
• In September of the same year, Winston served a one-game suspension for jumping on a table and yelling vulgar remarks on campus.
• In April 2015 — the same month that the Bucs drafted Winston first overall — Kinsman filed a civil suit against Winston for the 2012 incident. They reached a settlement in December of 2016.
* In March 2016, came the incident for which Winston was facing a suspension: Allegations that he grabbed the crotch of the Uber driver in the drive-through of a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona

Guy's a mental midget . I hope the stillers look elsewhere.

I’d take a flyer on Jake Haener in next year’s draft. Plays for Fresno State. Watched a game this season where he took an absolute beating and rallied his team to a win. Nothing flashy, but tough as nails and has the mobility to run “Canada’s offense.” I’d pick him up in the 3rd or 4th if he’s available. Guy is a gamer.

I disagree. His year is his year. If you want to take away his 5 TDs, he's 9 TDs vs 3 INTs. Still well above 2 statistical deviations of being a QB who normally threw an INT at a 1.3 TD to INT ratio and had a 3.0 (which is actually a 4.6 with those 5TDs)!!

Plus he threw his 5TDs against the NFC #1 seed, and also out-dueled Tom Brady. You're a bit myopic on this one brother ;)

So no offseason issues in 6 years? Sounds like he has matured!

Your last incident listed there was 2016 -- when Winston was 22 years of age. He's 28 now, with about 6 years gone by since then. Doesn't that seem like he's showing some maturity and common sense? You ever do anything stupid when you were 22?

And Winston is not a "mental midget." He scored a 27 on the Wonderlic...or 2 points higher than Ben.

How dare you suggest that someone might have matured. That type of **** doesn't fly around these parts (for reasons unknown)

Lets hope none of the three is the answer. The team is in transition we have to many glaring holes to fix. Last thing we need is an older QB that will still have to be replaced very shortly
