Why the Steelers Shouldn’t Care if Mitch Trubisky is a Top 10 AFC QB or Not

And as we've seen, it doesn't matter if your offense scores 42 points in a playoff game when your opponent scores 48.

Have you witnessed this before ? Maybe more than.......................................... once................... twice...............three times a lady .......(lets all sing together)

I hear yaz Ron Burgundy, it takes the three offense / defense (near casterated this day and age) / coaching. One can make up for one of the other to a degree but two of the three have to hitting on all cylinders if they want a chance at a win.

NOTE: I've not given special teams anything as they fall in the offense and have been litterally taken out of the game anyways.

Even the Duck, playing a large portion of the year, upheld the standard. Mitch will be fine.

The Steelers can beat bad teams.
They can beat good teams that are having a bad day.
They cannot beat a good team having a good day.

The one way to ensure a good team has a bad day...Improve your defensive play.
Never a losing season. Greatest coach ever.

I will reserve judgement on Trubisky. Odds aren't great on a reclamation project. However, if it was just a confidence restored thing he could be in the top half. The Steelers were fortunate to be in the playoffs but let's remember he isn't replacing 2010 Ben. There isn't one of these guys in the draft with a higher draft grade then when Trubisky was drafted.

I agree with this. Also, if you are going to go with a reclamation project Trubisky is perfect for that. Signed at a decent amount, experience, strong pedigree, can run, can throw, wasn't in the greatest situation, etc. Although, as you note, reclamation projects are a shot in the dark, at least this one brings many of the tangibles and intangibles you'd hope for in such a project.

Strongly agree.

Did you watch him play?
Lol my earliest memory of a dude flipping aput over a Steelers game was my scout leader going nuts about a mark malone interception… also the earliest football joke i can recall was “ What does Malone do when he sees a receiver double covered? Throw it to the guy who is triple covered! “ lol… i mean i was too young to understand the technical play yet back in the 80’s.. i was a kid…

What really burned my *** was Malone would throw an interception and come off the field smiling / laughing, killed my win or try to win attitude towards players (Mark).

I can relate a Mark Malone thing that happend to me. It was durring his ESPN on field days, I was at a PITT at Denver game. Before the game started I was down by the field but still in the stands technically. This big door opened and led directly to on the field. A bunch of cheer leaders were walking through so I casually eased in with them. I just stood on the side lines by some other people. I noticed they all had these passes around their necks. I stayd cool but noticed security was eyeing me from aways away.

Mark Malone and his camera crew were walking by about that time, close to me. he looked at me and made eye contact so I said hey Mark, I've got a piece of STEELERS trivia you might be interested in. He smiled and said what have you got? I asked him if he knew who held the longest TD reception in STEELERS history......... he got a big smile on his face and his crew said who is it....... I answered your one and only Mark Malone (this was before BEN)

Mark thanked me and said security is going to kick you out of here but let me help. He escorted me back to that door and told security I was with him. I left but erased my bad and replaced the good memory of Mark Malone.

I think Mitch is going to be okay at least for the limited time they need him to be. I'm sure he will have plenty of ups and downs. Can he be better then Rudolph? I think so. Will he be? We'll see I guess. I'm leaning towards yes.

Funny how no one wants to give Trubisky a chance, yet Haskins, all was abord and he was not good enough to dress. Seems the Steelers are making a lot of moves in free agency to have a better team . Last year with Ben no movement to do that, as the line was bad, receivers suspect and a defense that could not stand tall at end of game. This year for sure will be interesting from camp to end of season. If we are taking a chance on all the new players than the QB should be the same. It takes more than the QB in todays game to be competitive and a constant winner.

They'll continue that approach in the draft and it'll be interesting to see which direction it will go. They could really use help to build depth on the defensive line to become a better run-stopping unit and a strong safety, however, they have a ton invested on that side of the ball.

The offensive line is still a big question mark heading into the season and while they have a couple of solid receivers, they don't have a guy defenses have to game plan around. I don't think they'll go with an OL early, but I still think another stud would help solidify the line while a big-play receiver--a guy who is good after the catch or can take the top off the defense--would go a long way.

Nice post 448 and the pay "stat"

I think it's a little out of whack due to the rookies OL / RB / WRs on offense and the "all world" WATT did you say.... contract.

That number differential will narrow as these rookie contracts expire.

You're right though there is a big difference currently.

That’s one I never heard.

My favorite was why did the Soviet Union fear Mark Malone?

He was the only person who could overthrow their government.

Last year with ben and Ebron and turner on the offense, they were like the 4th youngest offense in the league … its why i was cutting the O so much slack… they were absurdly inexperienced… take turner out of the mix and thieir oline stars were a few for Chuks and a handful for Dotson… it was one of the least experienced lines ever… the WR corps was all young guys… the tes after ebron were all stupid young… the rb corps was all guys who weren’t established starters or backups… i mean it was just so raw
