I've been a vocal critic of Haley during his time here. But, you've got to give the man credit for what we are seeing on the field now. I don't know if he envisioned this type of offense or if he put it together on the fly so to speak. Whatever the process, it's obviously working.

That said, with Haley having turned this offense around, I have to wonder if he won't be due some consideration for the Head Coaching opportunities that will arise after the season ends. Or, will he have to wait another year or so to prove that this year was not a fluke?

Personally, I expect that he will at least get some interviews if for no other reason than to allow GMs to pick his brain. Ultimately, I think there is a 50/50 chance that he gets hired somewhere this year.

The problem for Haley is that out of the teams who might reasonably be expected to make coaching changes this year, where does he fit?

NY Giants
Washington (If Snyder gets happy with the hook again)
Chicago
Atlanta
SF
Miami
NY Jets
Jax (Do they fire their coach after only two years?)
Oakland

How about he gets a team that was previously in the Super Bowl into the playoffs first. This was very much like last year. Started extremely slow and by the end, big numbers. 8 weeks ago, I wanted him fired. That probably isn't happening now. Head Coach, doubt it

Haley is going no where, along with Tomlin.

His contract is up this year. On the other hand, he's from here and enjoying more success as an OC than he did as HC in KC. I don't know that his record as a HC would lead someone to pay him silly money but you never know.
Of course the Pitt HC job just opened up too. (j/k)

My question assumed that we would make the playoffs (I know, not guaranteed). However, making the playoffs is not solely reliant on Haley. Lebeau needs to have his players ready to go also. As does the Special Teams coach. As for the slow start, while I hated Haley's play calling in the beginning of the year (something he's gotten better at as the season went on), this team put up 30, 26, 37 and 27 pts. in the first four games of the season. Not exactly a slow start. As a matter of fact, there are only two times this year where the team hasn't scored at least 26 pts. However, the 5 defensive scores figure into that also.

In any event, a coach with previous HC experience who has a team led by a HOF QB scoring at an average almost 5 points above the team's scoring avg over the QB's career just might get a look.

93.7 quoted Toddster today as saying he likes it here and watching MT's press conferences.

Hope we hang onto Munchak as OL coach. Don't think Haley leaves. He's had a taste and he's now having success again. If he wants that ring he's better to stay and get it here then to try and take over some project.

Good point.

I think he gets a 3 year extension

I don't see another team making a run at Haley unless the Steelers have a very deep run in the playoffs. There are too many hot coordinators that teams will be ready to pounce on.

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see a team offering an OC job to Munchak and I'd find it hard to believe that he would be a hot name in the head coaching market, though I'd give him an interview if the Steelers job opened in the next few years.

As said, 3-year extension for Haley & wife. Tomlin writes his own contract after bringing home #7 this year.

I think he will stay. Hometown, running his offense with the big 3 B's at the skill position's . . .what more could he want? He's already done the HC thing and hopefully he realizes he is better suited to be an OC.

I don't think he gets a look this offseason, but if he has similar success next offseason then he gets another HC chance... and that may change to much sooner if the steelers were to make a miracle run on the back of the O to #7 this year....

Might just depend on what he can get to stay. Think of a five year deal with guaranteed salary replaced or not. HC jobs are not very secure except for a few organizations. Relocating frequently is a major pain in the ***. He may value stability over turmoil.

Not to take anything away from Haley
BUT
You could argue that most coordinators in the NFL could produce with Bell, Brown and Ben?
No other team in the league has talent like that at WR RB and QB.
I hate to say it but could you imagine if Bill Bellichek had that kind of talent to work with?

I'd think we could see lots more replays than are available now

He don't need any good players, the camera does most of the work, then ernie.

For the past couple of seasons there was a lynch mob that was trying to run Haley out of town. Now people, are wanting him to stay. It's amazing what winning and results can do.

I was going to post the same thing....lets not get carried away here people. He has probably the best RB and WR in the game on offense. Just 3 weeks ago this offense and team **** the bed against a bad New Orleans defensive team. Have we already forgotten the performances against the Jets, Raiders, Tampa's, Titans, etc of the NFL? Haley's has shown one thing consistently in 3 years....his offense isn't consistent. Winning a few games has definitely helped but the man hasn't all of a sudden become a ******* genius over night.

Again, I was a pretty vocal opponent of Haley's offense. And while everything you all point out is true, there's also the job he did with the Cardinals during their Super Bowl year to consider. On the flip side there's the job he did to KC also. (LOL). I wouldn't be surprised if he was on some teams' interview lists. I would be surprised if he got hired this year.

You haven't figured it out yet? This is a results only league. Take Jim Harbaugh. 3 NFCC Games and a Super Bowl loss and now he's on the outs in SF. People were upset with Haley because 8-8 is UNACCEPTABLE in Pittsburgh where playoffs should be the norm, not the exception. Haley is a good offensive coach and always has been. The last two years we've fought through bullshit injuries to the line and last year we straight up started 0-4 to jeopardize any real chance to compete despite finishing the season 6-2. Now you have a healthy offense and look at the results. The defense is in serious transition and has been fighting injuries all year. Some of those players are just getting back (Shazier/Jarvis). We have deficiencies in the secondary that we are all well aware of, but even with those this team is two bad losses away from being 11-3 and tied with Indy and NE for best record in the AFC. We have turned the corner on offense, the defense might just be one good draft away.

I can see Haley getting some interviews and interest, but they will be few and far between. The way he left KC and that whole mess about them spying on him to being close to getting the boot out of Pittsburgh (before a switch turned on this season). There are more questions to him than answers. I'd hope he is content in the success he has here now and wants to keep building it, but I wouldn't hold it against him if another organization wants him to lead their team. I just don't know if he will get that chance again.

He has managed to put the best offense we have seen in a long time on the field so I hope he stays. There also seems to be no friction between him and the rest of the coaches that has surfaced anywhere so it would be good to keep things that are working together.
