Wk 4 Steelers at Houston…. it’s a Trap! Pregame

Ah the old road game vs an expectedly weak team after a big road win and directly before a big divisional rival home game..

It was damn nice of them to upset the Jagoffs so there is a chance we won’t overlook them.

CJ Stroud has played phenomenally as a rookie so far. He must not have realized that he is a qb from Ohio state, and that means he is obligated to blow in the NFL… hopefully Watt and Highsmith can convince him to be more like all the rest of them…

After the Game, maybe Coolie can sponsor a midget boxing match starring CA3 and Tank Dell… battle of the mighty mites…


Basically the Texans were expected to be horrible but behind a historically good first 3 games from CJ Stroud, have managed a win vs Jacksonville…

Their Run game is non existent. Its on par with ours… but their passing O has been efficient… though they do give up pressure and lots of sacks, and struggled vs the Ravens, who are probably the best D they faced thus far…

Their run D is on par with the Raiders… nothing great…
Their pass D is good but not great.. they mostly allow short high percentage passes… their average target is like 6 yards, but they give up a 73% they are 13th best at yards through the air, but 10th worst at YAC d… so logic says to attack with shot slants and crosses … but we don’t do that.. soooooooo…..


This should be a win. It is a trap game though…

They beat the jagoffs 37-17 in their house,but it's a division opponent and we know how that goes.


Hopefully things keep gradually improving and the use of the playbook expands.

One can only hope as this Huston D is made for us to exploit. Between the numbers, play action will work. Our run game will open up and we should get 125-160 yrds on the ground. We will be grinding it out to kill clock and finish the game.

He does, but remember, many of the best rookie QBs end up as meh guys in three years… not always, but how a qb performs before there is a lot of tape on him tends to change a bunch

yep. If he spends most of the game running for his life or getting hit,things tend to change bunch.

That's why we spend big money on edge rushers.

I’ve said in another thread that the Steelers better be careful here. The Texans under DeMeco are not a horrible team. They play hard and they play the entire game. They just need more premier players and that will come in the next couple seasons.
Some really good young players in Stroud, Little Tank Dell. I’m glad they beat the Jags on the road…. Maybe the Steelers know this won’t be a cakewalk.
Also this, Kendrick Green is starting so we should destroy him and that is a big weakness their OL. Injuries and that’s why this busher is even playing.

Ok when you scored 1 offensive TD in week 1 and 2 and 2 in week three you really cannot be caught in any traps. If you lose the reality is you are kind of a meh team and didn't play your better game.

oddly enough Dell has taken over as a starter the last two weeks due to an injury

Dell and Collins have been finding open spots

twice I saw the jags bring the safeties up in the box and the corner over Dell was playing outside and Dell got big gains both times. the first one set them up at the 3 yard line and the 2nd was a long TD...granted on the long TD the corner misplayed the coverage but Dell has the speed to get deep and the quickness to get open on short routes

against the colts they ran the same speed out 5 or 6 times, at least 4 were first down catches for Dell

TJ and Highsmith need to be in Stroud's face all night

It is going to look REALLY bad if he plays competently or better. The OL coach and MT will look like a jackass if that happens. I’m almost hoping that it happens, just so people start to see that MT is the problem.

Houston's offense is better than Pittsburgh's right now. They are doing it with a rookie QB, a worse OL starting Kendrick Green, and worse skill players. Plus a rookie coaching staff.

I agree with you except that Green was truly being played out of position. It may very well turn out that he does in fact suck at the right position. It will just be really bad if he doesn’t actually suck with proper coaching.
