Maybe some real lean years and a dud coach or even two for the chance at more. I really am. Cause I know change is inevitable. Whether it takes them 5 more years of Tomlin to figure it out or this off season. It will likely have some growing pains. I just know anyone who makes the kind of coaching staff decisions and in game choices is not capable of a Championship level competitive team. And to me the middle with the exception of like Cleveland Detroit like teams is the worst place to be.

I am ok with lean years. Hopefully one day the FO will step up to the plate.

Well unless Tomlin conquers old age.....it's inevitable. I just know we will be looking back at some point thinking about wasted years.

I would prefer that lean possible come with a new coaching staff.

Fans deserve better than what goose egg they are throwing on the plate.

Watch this video, starting at the one hour mark thru about 1:20...Tomlin says (with a straight face remarkably), that the reason he has been successful is because he hires the BEST staff and coordinators, let's them do their job, and he does not hire his friends and acquaintances as coaches. If anyone can watch that and keep a straight face I will be shocked. That is either delusion of the highest level OR a straight up bold faced lie.

Im defining lean as 6 wins. I'm saying I would prefer that to this facade. With the hope of returning to real championship level. I'm at point already where I know Watt is going to be wasted like his brother. Generational talent. Will have a couple playoff wins max. Does he have one already? If not he may never have one with this organization.

The best coaches that NO one ever hires. Ever.

No playoff wins in 6 years are the lean years for the Pittsburgh Steelers. We all know Tomlin leaves when he's damn good and ready, there will be no firing of an average coach to who takes extraordinary talented football players and bring them down to his level of sucktitude. Can you imagine what a man like Brian Johnson, the Eagles OC, could do with Kenny? Look at what he's done with Jalen for piss sakes! He would be an incredible Head Coach for the Steelers. No more lean years needed.

Hell, look at what Eric Bieniemy has done in DC with Sam Howell. That is what good coordinators do, they get the most out of their players. We find new ways to make our players look inept week in and week out.

Come on. Solid coaching tree.

I've seen a lot of wunderkin coaches win 4 games and coaching carousels after. I'm saying I'm good with that. I'm tired of what I deem to be hopeless here.

I watched a decent part of the Eagles-Commanders game and had that same thought. "Wow, Sam Howell must be really good. He put up 31 and forced OT against the Eagles in Philly."

Then I thought back to his throws and realized he is Kenny Pickett. Similar size, arm strength, mobility. One has a very good OC, the other has Matt Cana-DUH. That's the difference. Seriously, that's it.

Can you imagine THIS Steelers offense going into Philly and putting up 31? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Hell, I couldn't picture this offense going up against Pitt and putting up 31 points. Hell, Penn Trafford might give our offense fits at this point.

No it's not. They also have a line that get coached up, so improves, guys who believe in the system, and decent D coordinator. We have non of that.

Well, early last year, we thought we were in a very lean year and most were thinking we were getting a top 10 or even top 5 draft pick. Tomlin did his thing and kept his streak alive and we didn't get a real high pick. I think Jones will turn out to be a very good pick but we need him and a heck of a lot more now. This year, I expect the same. They will still end up just north of .500 and a middle pick. And, even though they didn't renew Tomlin's contract this offseason, he isn't going anywhere. All we can hope for is a new OC.

And even looking at those 3 wins post 2010 superbowl loss year, it's pretty bleak with those wins against. Two of those in 2016 vs miami&KC
And then Bungles blowing it being stupid in the last win.

And a nice long list of horrific playoff losses. Denver,Jacksonville, Kansas City and Cleveland. And of course the Pats***** always making them look foolish.

It's just bad right now and I wouldn't put anything on the players. I actually feel bad for anyone who genuinely would like to win a championship.

I agree with you 100%, but the NFL is very Offiensive minded and I would love to see an Offensive Coordinator come into Pittsburgh instead of another defensive guy. Dan Quinn is another DC who deserves another shot at being a Head Coach but again, he faltered in Atlanta mainly because they had offensive issues. I see that as a trend. I mean we have Mike Tomlin and when was the last time you loved watching a Steeler's offense? 2014 they averaged 27 points per game and that was the only team to ever hit that number in the Tomlin era. I'm not saying a DC shouldn't be a Head Coach, but in the last five years 24 of the last 32 Head Coaches have Offensive backgrounds. So, it isn't just me in thinking this way.

But compare Sam Howell to Kenny Pickett and you will be surprised at how similar they are.

Given that, we need to fix the underlying issues. Those begin but certainly do not end with OC. OL coach - Isaac Seamalu was good enough to start on a great Eagles line. He's now bad. What changed? The OL coach and OC.

Already been over the defense. Ton of payroll, numerous All-Pro players and get railed by a rookie QB and a makeshift, backup offensive line? The DC is suspect.

And of course the captain of this Titanic is Mike "Bartlett" Tomlin. This is HIS mess, nobody else's.

I have a hard time seeing this team coach to an above .500 record. Last year was some different circumstances. A better D assistant. Already it is shown their D is inconsistent. That is the difference between a slightly above average team and a piss poor one. I mentioned the D as they could bail the O out. Not so much the case this year.
