Would you be prepared for......

I remember the 80s. Things weren't good. And yet, and not being facetious, it was far more enjoyable experience than what this team is right now (and for the prior 5 years). Which is pretty sad given all of the talent we have now vs then.

Chuck Noll won road playoff games and went to AFC Championship games with Mark Malone and Bubby Brister at QB. Can you imagine Mike Tomlin doing that?? Of course not.

I remember it too. Not as much national coverage, fans from other teams in the stands, lower sales of merch, etc. You think Rooney would have learned.

The 31-6 rout by the Oilers in 1991 doomed Noll. His team fell to 5-9 and Rooney knew something had to change. He did not care that the team won the last two squeakers. He saw the obvious deficiencies in the team and knew it was time for a change.

Chuck Noll was 1000x the coach that is Tomlin. The Emperor took over the worst franchise in professional sports and between 1972 and 1991, went 181-118 (.605 winning percentage), went to the playoffs 12 times, had a 16-8 record in playoff games, went to 8 AFC Championship games, won 4 AFC titles, and won 4 Super Bowls.

Yet Rooney knew his time was up.

For the love of God, Mike Tomlin's time passed around the time milk bought in 2014 did.

Agree but that Rooney is dead and gone. THIS Rooney Does. Not. Care.

These are already lean years we’re in right now. Could it be worse like what the Lions, Texans, Panther's have endured over the years, sure but we’ve been stuck in mediocrity for years now and for the Steelers, that’s lean.
Tomlin should never have been hired in 2007 with only one year as a DC in Minnesota where his defense ranked near the bottom. He didn’t have the pedigree to take over a team one year removed from a SB championship with a young franchise QB, excellent defense and plenty of playmakers.
The table was set for him here to succeed and Rooney’s thought he would grow into the job. He had great OC in Arians and DC in LeBeau and all he had to do was stay out of the way.
As the seasons came and went so did the good coordinators, excellent players, assistant coaches and Tomlin started gaining more and more control and hiring his guys and with Colbert bringing in his players. The one constant was the franchise QB that kept his head above water and extended his meaningless non losing seasons.
Now the franchise QB is gone and in 2023 this is where we are with Tomlin in charge of it all.
This is his baby and he should be made full accountable for this teams failures. These are his coaches and players and this team flat out has zero identity. They have some star players, some pretty good players, and some players that are below starter caliber but he does not know how to mesh these players and coach them up to be truly successful nor do his assistant coaches.
He’s never been an offensive minded coach and quite frankly I don’t think he’s that special of a defensive coach. He’s what Terry Bradshaw said he is, a cheerleader who bumps chests with his players and who players want to play for.
Players want paid first and foremost and like to win so I don’t buy into this players coach crap.
Tomlin is loaded with cliches and funny sayings but that doesn’t make for s great coach or a truly successful one either. The team is in the midst of mediocrity year in and year out, coached by a mediocre coach who hires second rate yes men, we draft middle of the pack every year so we finish middle of the pack. The owner has to decide when he’s had enough and is ready to go in a different direction.

I agree these are lean years, Even though the Steelers are reaching the "not a losing season" bench mark, they've hit historical lows in playoff drought, points allowed in a game, underdog point spread, futility with their offense. I mean this offense has been atrocious for over three years now.

According to Cowher, who was a guest on Big Ben's podcast, he told Mr. Rooney that whizz would be an excellent HC, but he should really consider hiring someone outside of the Organization to breathe new life into the team much as he did with Cowher.

I find it hard to say that Tomlin shouldn't have been hired. He is going to the HOF. If Cowher got in Tomlin is lead pipe lock. Similar record same championship appearances and wins. But it is time to move on here. Thanks Mike and good luck.

DK sports Daily Shot had a great take this morning. It talks of the coaching and the hires. He goes above the O’Canada factor as to the hiring of coordinators. It was an interesting listen.

This whole debical goes deeper than just OC or DC, we all know that.

Nothing will change until Coach Tomlin is changed.

In order to change Coach Tomlin, ART 2 will need change.

LOT of changing needed.

Salute the nation

I got tired of Cowher (and the Steelers losing in big games), but the fact is that he got the team that far, and eventually broke through. BC was smart -- he got to the top of the mountain, and called it quits a year later.

I am now FATIGUED with Tomlin, who started out on the top of that mountain, and has been going mostly downhill ever since. The guy hasn't won a playoff game since 2017, let alone appearing in an AFCCG which we got on Cowher's *** for losing. There's no progression towards a breakthrough; now as fans we've been reduced to the same old song and dance of wondering whether or not he can get to 8-8-1 this year.

What's sad it that this bird will be the head coach in Pittsburgh as long as he wants to. No sense of urgency in the organization, just complacency. We can hope and dream about a change, but I can't see it happening for a long, long time. Tomlin's got one of the best, highest-paid gigs in the country, with 100% job security. Unless he has some major life-changing event in his personal life, why would he walk away?

"Never a losing season" is good for only one thing....shutting up a Browns fan.

Prior to the Steelers Browns game, an acquaintance Browns fan told me how the Browns were gonna beat the Steelers.
I told him "nah, they're the same old Browns, nothings gonna change this year either."

With his impeccable wit he shot back that the Steelers were the same old Steelers..

I said "Well yeah, the same old Steelers... never having a losing season and always finishing ahead of the Clowns."

Crickets

Maybe some real lean years and a dud coach or even two for the chance at more. I really am. Cause I know change is inevitable. Whether it takes them 5 more years of Tomlin to figure it out or this off season. It will likely have some growing pains. I just know anyone who makes the kind of coaching staff decisions and in game choices is not capable of a Championship level competitive team. And to me the middle with the exception of like Cleveland Detroit like teams is the worst place to be.
We have already had some lean years. 7 to be honest. If we find a head coach who is adaptive to the game, has knowledge of both side of the ball and can make players want to play for them, then you will have success. Of course, what matters to Art is the organizational skills. Not a priority to me or anyone who understands football.

No playoff wins in 6 years are the lean years for the Pittsburgh Steelers. We all know Tomlin leaves when he's damn good and ready, there will be no firing of an average coach to who takes extraordinary talented football players and bring them down to his level of sucktitude. Can you imagine what a man like Brian Johnson, the Eagles OC, could do with Kenny? Look at what he's done with Jalen for piss sakes! He would be an incredible Head Coach for the Steelers. No more lean years needed.
The only way Shades leaves early is if he sees his HOF credentials getting tarnished by a lack of playoff wins and it becomes more apparent that he won everything with the team he inherited.
Remember Marty Schottenheimer is the only eligible HC with 200 wins who is not in the HOF, due to his lack of playoff wins.

Won’t happen but I liked what Zeise and Mueller said on 93.7 last night.
“Deuce pulls MT into his office and says Matt Canada is YOUR guy and you’re stuck with him for the rest of the season. If you don’t get a playoff win, he’s gone and so are you. Make it work.”
I loved it.

I really like that take.

That works for me. I wish it would happen.

I'd love to see the fans start staying home in large numbers. Let's see a home game with 25,000 empty seats in the stadium.

This Rooney might pay attention if revenue drops significantly. It would appear that he does not even watch the games.

Born on 3rd base but determined to end up on 2nd.

I actually think that would send a message. But fans don't like eating money so they would sell the tickets. Which is probably already happening. Which ultimately won't impact their wallet.

Thought you were going for the Pearl Jam song “Bushleaguer” ….. “Born on third, thinks he got a triple” 🤣

I would love that as well. BUT, Deuce is a cheap SOB and will not pay Tomlin to sit at home and watch NFL football. Tomlin will coach out the rest of his contract if not get extended.

Tomlin just needs another HOF QB and the Best WR and RB in the league, then he's got a shot of being 1 and done against a journeymen QB if he makes it to the playoffs.
