Would You Welcome Back Rodgers Again?

No. I like Mr. Rogers and I thank him for his service to the organization this season. He came in and did a good job 'being a Steeler'. But now is the time to move on from the 'Let's win 9!' mentality of Shades the Fraud! Rogers represents the past only...there's no future there at all. Everyone who thinks we can win a championship with Rogers at the helm raise their hands (then seek help).

Time to ride or die with Howard.

I may be against the grain here, but don't bring him back. He wants a starting role and will be 43 yrs old.

Last season is as good as he would be, he isn't going to get better.

If in a backup role such as player / coach of some kind, then maybe, his price needs to be very low.

LOL.....Yeah this will happen. Hey AARon.....how about resign as a backup and be a coach for us in your last season. Here is your contract. A bit low. I know, but your are a back up....and coach of some kind possibly at some point.

If AARon is brought back is he better than Mason? Howard? Probably. Then he should start if he is. This will be Rooney's plan. The word "rebuild" doesn't exist in the Rooney dictionary.

I disagree about Rodgers arm, it's still good. Watching him throw next to Rudolph and Howard at training camp and pregame warmups, it's even more evident--he has rare arm talent, even at his age. The bigger problem is he can't move in the pocket. Darnold was brilliant creating with his pocket movement last night against a tough defense. Rodgers isn't out running defenders anymore and he doesn't want to get hit. However, he can still make any throw when there's a clean pocket and when he trusts that clean pocket. The problem is those days are gone.

Rodgers is the perfect QB

I know what I wanted isn’t ever going to happen. I was just throwing a scenario out as to how I would bring him back.

We don’t need him back to achieve a non-losing season Tomlinship Award.

I think existing staff with an added vet QB can easily acidic the minimalship the owner theroretically demands.

An interesting name, Joe Flacco could be the answer. Willing to be a #2 and probably reasonable priced along with his mentorship of the younger QBs.

Should Joe sign, the Rudy would be let out for recess on a permanent bases.

Rodgers being brought back is just delaying the search and another year of non-moving forward.

I’ve experienced the non-moving forward for the last 10+ years and am willing to chance moving forward.

There is also another scenario. That Magic Mike might be able to squeeze out more from Rodgers than the other M&M could.

That isn’t an unreasonable possibility.

Still ok with a different vet if they identify a better option.

But I can’t rule out that he could shine if brought back one year …

Not only does it delay the search for the next long term QB, it doesn't help the oline or the skill guys when the QB just wants to get rid of the ball as fast as possible.

Keep Rudy Howard and another low end FA and roll the dice.

I feel Magic Mike and AAron would do much better than Tomlin. He still has a good arm and football IQ. They'd probably win 12-13 games and fail in the playoffs again. AAron doesn't want hit and doesn't have the legs he once did.

So, there we are once again next January - no clue about Howard and probably mid 20's for the '27 draft which is supposed to be a better QB class from what I've lightly read. If Rodgers was mid-late 30's instead of approaching 43, I'd feel completely different.

I also think Flacco would be a good choice to mentor Howard. And he would probably be happy to be #2.

Yes.
They WILL sign a vet FA. Rudy ain't the answer and they won't let Howard learn on the job and put that "no lose losing seasons" streak at risk.
Deuce wants that as bad as Shades did.
I have become of the opinion that whole thing was more Deuce than Tomlin. It may have been all Deuce. He's the only one who has said it out loud. Hear me out.

Tomlin resigns suddenly. I know about the rumors. But maybe after another playoff loss he goes to Art and says, "Hey, we gotta strip this down and rebuild it right because what we are doing isn't working." Art gives him the line about not wanting to waste a year and that he thinks they are close. Tomlin goes home, sleeps on it and decides he doesn't want more of the same and resigns. While not as fun as banging a bartender and getting her pregnant, it's plausible.

Fully agree on the Magic Mike offense and guru-ship being head and shoulders above the ex-coache’s schematics and ability.

It still doesn’t change the 43 yr old factor. His mentorship skills are undeniable, and Howard would benefit greatly behind the Rodgers, but if the time comes to sit him……… not from injury, would he go quietly?

Can the Steelers afford another dormant year not knowing what they’ve got in Howard? Tomlin wasted every cushion we’ve got by not exploring the rookie QBs in a developmental way. Coach Tomlin could have gotten Will in a couple games had he been developing him for it. No, relegated to scout team QB….purgatory .

If they do bring in the Rodgers, I won’t be un-happy and will encourage his success as I have HOPE.

No, I don't think he would go quietly and it would become a team distraction.

I feel Tomlin had no interest in developing ANYONE. He pretty much said so a few years ago in a PC.

If AAron comes back, I hope the best for him, the team (and us) as per usual. Rodgers is a good QB, but I don't feel the end result will be much different.

Bringing Rodgers back would be about as stupid as if we brought Tomlin back.

No, I wouldn’t watch Buck Rodger’s again and I don’t won’t Aaron Rodger’s back.

Unless McCarthy thinks Howard is ready to start or we get Mendosa by offering the farm to the Raiders…Rodgers is probably the best veteran option…not palatable but I think it’s true

If we draft anyone but Mendosa a red shirt year to acclimate like McCarthy did with Rodgers way back when Rodgers was a rookie would be wise, I doubt anyone we draft this year but Mendosa is ready to play the first half of the season minimum

If McCarthy wants to start Howard I’m good with that too, I just doubt Rooney will be down for that in his win now approach

I'd rather try someone like Malik Willis, or Mac Jones, etc, someone that has something to prove. Rodgers can't move and doesn't want to get hit anymore, so he's throwing the ball in 2 seconds, that doesn't make your Oline better, that doesn't teach them to hold a block, you WR's are running very limited routes, so you're really holding back your players from progressing.
If you need to bench Willis or Jones, that's simple, there's no issues there, you can't bench Rodgers.

After this Super Bowl, teams will wise up to the Darnold/Mayfield model. The NFL doesn't develop R1 QBs the first time around. But the ones who have talent and landed in bad spots can be recycled to great success.

Some of them yes. Not all of them. I don't see Pickett ever being more than a bench warmer along with a few others.

Where does the non-existent first quarter offence and fourth quarter defence fit into this theory?

I wouldn’t say there was a decline from first to second half of the season. It has been established Stafford doesn’t scramble for significant yards and AR can still sling it.

We can beat feet all we want about change but there has to be attractive options not put all your eggs in one basket option.

Now if the new staff thinks there is a free agent QB that can fit that bill sure sign me up.

But if they think for one season he is the best option I am fine with it.

I liked Arthur for being better than some OCs but he did rotate scrubs in entirely too much. That and the lack of much of a receiver room and he still had a ok season.

Not sure what fans think they are getting with a table of lemons at WR…
Preach Man. People act like there are any options available that are remotely as good as an aging Rodgers. Sign me up for another year. I am curious to see what he looks like with a few more WR and a real OC.
We won 7 of 10 games by 1 score or less. You could make the argument without Rodgers we are likely a 5-6 win team at best.

I'm going to root for the success of whomever they stick in the field. It doesn't matter if I agree with it or not.

They'd better have a hell of a draft and offseason.

It would be nice to have an option who could potentially be a starter for more than a year.
