Your All Time Steelers Lineup

Kordell would fit in there somewhere, like when they need an
80+ yard punt
80+ yrd rushing TD
80+ yrd passing TD

Salute the nation
Thought about him. You can really take this to a 53 man roster if you want. Don't worry folks ain't gonna go there lol. If I had backups listed I'd have Bradshaw 2 and Kordell 3 only because you could have a few wacky plays in there with him

I don't correct every mistake I make. I think i doubled the K at the end of Chuck and then went with it but I do find it interesting that out of the entire post, all that some of you have to share is that a coaches name was mispelled. OMG I put Knoll Instead of Noll. The world is ending!!!! For those who like to correct people's spelling I changed it so it's less painful for you.
Perhaps an edible or 50….?

You must like “wackey”, but that is each to their own…………..

Kordell is the grandfather to today’s QB.

20 years ahead of his time and he was pretty dang football fast as well.

Salute the nation

In my opinion Mel Blount is right up there with the best CBs of all time in the entire league. He is cb1 for the Steelers in any generation.
he might be able to make the 53 today.

It’s not painful for me at all. The man is a legend. The least you could do is honor him by spelling his name correctly.

I honor him by putting him on the list Sarge but I'll delve into this for a tad second

From what I read Chuck Noll was a private, humble, no-nonsense guy that didnt care for the spotlight or recognition so I would venture to say he wouldn't give one rats *** about being on the list or being left off the list or whether I spelled his name correctly or incorrectly. It would all be meaningless to him. He loved his craft, developing young men, and winning. It's you who cares.....I'm not doing to Mr. Noll a single injustice that he would care one smidgen over. That said, I corrected it for you

I'm sure this has been done before but I'm gonna probably add a few wrinkles. Not only can you pick your base defense, but you can pick sub packages as well as base offense and sub packages as well as coach and coordinators. THESE ARENT NECESSARILY THE BEST PLAYERS BUT WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST TEAM. And feel free to project players or coaches into different positions if you feel they could project into a different scheme, position, or time or had previous experience at that position. Here goes.....

I'll start with coaches

Head Coach Chuck Noll
DC Dick LeBeau
OC Bruce Arians (for modern era & Ben)
DL Coach John Mitchell (for my 3-4)
LB Coach Bill Cowher
DB Coach Dom Capers
OL Coach Mike Munchak
WR Coach Tom Moore
RB Coach Dick Hoak
ST Coach Bobby April

Offense
T John Kolb
T Tunch Ilkin
G David Decastro
G Alan Faneca
C Dermonti Dawson (want a center who can pull)
QB Big Ben
WR1 Antonio Brown
WR2 John Stallworth/Hines Ward
Slot Hines Ward
TE Heath Miller
RB Franco Harris/Jerome Bettis they will be my Thunder and lightening

On my 12 personell I'm bringing in Eric Green
On my 3 TE sets I'm bringing in Green and Washington (oh my God the size of Green and Washington in the Jumbo)

My 3rd down back in obvious passing situations I'm bringing in Bell without hesitation

On my 4 receiver sets I'm bringing in Louis Lipps....I want a fast, quick twitch electric guy especially in bunch formations and in my empty sets I'm bringing in both Lipps and Randle El. Lots of trick plays and reverses can be employed

When I want a FB I'm bringing in John Henry Johnson

K The Boz
Punter Josh Miller....our D will be so nasty we want a guy who can pin it in the 20 often

Kick Returner Lynn Chandois
Punt Returner Antonio Brown

Defense (gonna get some blow back here lol). I'm playing a 3-4

My base run defense

NT Hampton
DE Mean Joe
DE Aaron Smith
ILB Jack Lambert my MIKE
ILB Jack Ham (has the speed, coverage skills and IQ to play the BUCK here)
OLB James Harrison
OLB TJ Watt
CB Mel Blount
CB Rod Woodson
SS Troy Polamalu
FS Minka Fitzpatrick

In my nickel, I can bring off Hampton, Smith, and Lambert or Ham and bring in Cam Heyward and LC Greenwood on the line with an added 40 to 50 pounds (LC at 6ft 6, Cam at 6ft5 and Greene at 6ft 4 would have so much length for the front 3).

I can also can rotate Ernie Stautner in there assuming he adds weight and become an OLB or bigger DE). I bring in Carnell Lake for the slot/box...he has size and speed (ran a 4.36). Lots of versatility with him. He had 25 sacks as a Steeler so he can be that blitz slot corner too)

In my dime, It really gets interesting.

In my 3-2-6 I have Cam, Greene, and LC as my lineman with James and TJ as my linebackers but I have a lot of flexibility depending on the offensive substitutions, situation, or look i want to create.....I can sub out Harrison or TJ, bring Ham in there drop him back into coverage and blitz a saftey. I could really have any combo of Harrison/TJ/Lambert/Ham especially when facing an empty set.

In my 4-1-6 I'll put in a combo of Cam/LC/Smith/Mean Joe with any one of Ham/Harrison/TJ/Lambert as my linebacker depending on the match-up or look I want to give. Lambert's added bulk will dictate when he plays and in which formations.

But in my dime I need 6 DBs and here is where the flexibility of Woodson and Lake comes in cause now I can make either one an extra box saftey or slot corner

CB1 Joey Porter (he's a great great press man guy but that's all he is in an all time (just a dime corner)
CB2 Me Blount
FS Fitzpatrick
SS Troy
Extra DBs Woodson and Lake

Here I have tremulous tremendous size and flexibility with my DBs. You can move around Woodson, Lake, Polamalu, Fitzpatrick. It would be a nightmare for opposing teams. We would go 17-0 almost every year
I like how you thought about different schematics for different player listings.

I get Aaron was a solid D run stuffer can’t debate that. For me I would have put Heyward over him. I think he is /was every bit of Smith’s level if not better. I am referencing his run stuffing ability. I think Cam obviously gets him as a pass rusher too.

I would find a way to throw Lynn Swann into the fray. Loved his postseason production even more so loved the way he played football . Where to fit him? You got me but he was a special player even if his regular season statistics don’t necessarily reflect that…

Thought the listings was overall solid. 👏

I used to help with a golf tournament his wife was involveded in. Got to meet him a few times. Super down to earth.
Towards the end he couldn't make it out much. She would have him sign merchandise and bring it in too auction off.

He gave me a signed football helmet that I kept for years.
Both great people

Thanks......I spent a bit organizing my thoughts and for sure I thought to myself how do I leave Swanny off, or Shell and kinda went back and forth between Smith and Heyward but part of the reason I put Smith in on the base run D is in today's NFL it's not used as much anyway and if I'm creating a crazy all time team, rotation will be important to keep players fresh and I just like certain players like Smith having a role on that team. I also put him in there on the base run D because he had so much time playing with Hampton so the synergy was of value (even though when they played and with whom isn't a consistent theme or consideration). Considering all the various packages my team would play Heyward considerably more because of his pass rushing abilities.

Another guy that I didn't include but thought about briefly was Tuitt. I think without the injuries and the early retirement Stephon could have been an all.time great but his play time was spotty and his candle ran out quick unfortunately but at his best he was a menace. I could say the same about Thigpen.....he was fantastic (had a 1300 and 1400 yard seasons but only great for a very short time and was injured and then he left but prime Thigpen in a 4 or 5 set. Sure thing!!

But that's the thing most franchise fan bases assembling an all time defensive team wouldn't have the difficulty assembling one that we have. We can assemble (at some point in the future) a HOFer at every position and many that are the best to ever play their position. That's nuts

In regard to Swanny, I thought could I put him in there on the 4 or 5 receiver sets? I could.....I could definitely put him in there over Randle El in an empty set. He could catch in traffic and obviously he was great but I kinda wanted a little razzle dazzle to compliment Brown, Hines and Stallworth so I went with Lipps and Randle El. These guys might be better suited for 4 and 5 sets especially with the empty sets where I'm looking for twitchy Waterbugs to get separation quick. I could decide to go big and have both Hines and JuJu in an empty set on the inside. JuJu is 6-1 and 215. Him and Hines in empty sets against smaller corners......smash mouth!! JuJu under Ben was pretty damn good for a while. You can skin a cat quite a few ways

There are a litany of things I could say here but you are a dick and a waste of time and so it's pointless. I came on here to talk Steelers and share opinions, not get flack from some loser who thinks he is a tough guy. I'll just put you on ignore......please do the same

I love the Bus and Willie Parker was my favorite player of the past 20 years.
But
Le'Veon Bell was the most talented RB to ever wear B+G.
Not even close

Great list over-all. Louie Lipps over Lynn Swann though, that's a big no for me dawg. Thanks for the time it took you to build this. It was a fun read.
