Zach Gentry being resigned.

I like the move. Gentry is a solid player. A good blocker and has improved his pass catching.
Sense a theme with these moves recently? These two physical guards, re-signing Gentry, appears they will be more physical and running more.
I’m leaning more towards drafting a LT to replace Dan Moore and kicking him over to RT. Maybe they can trade Chuks!

Actually surprised it's only a 1 year deal. He is a good No. 2 guy to Muuth. He blocks well and can get out in space and catch the ball.

I think with young Hayward, they want to see what his role will be as opposed to Gentry’s 1yr VS long term.

I'm noticing a trend with these contracts. Stars are getting 4-6 years. Solid players around 3-year deals, and role players/backups 1-2 year deals.

I was hoping he'd come back. Has improved over time. Good signing. Friermuth, Gentry and Heyward..... good to go. Now no need to waste a pick on a TE. Got other needs to fill.
We can't stand Pat. A good move it was!

I mean "pat".

With our improving OL, I’d like to see the Steelers use more two TE sets. Like the Redskins and the Hogs of the 80’s.

It's a TE rich class. If they had a full compliment of picks I wouldn't have minded getting one but I'm ok with Gentry. Big dude good blocker.

That is why I was a little concerned about the position… this is a nice deep draft and I don’t think that would have worked out for us because i fear if they start seriously looking at the position, there is some guy they are gonna just fall in love with and then overdraft him and that stunts us elsewhere….

All we needed was a blocker who can competently run some routes on occasion … while Washington or his ilk are tempting.. the last thing we need is spending a first or second on another TE and letting depth at a more important position starve because of that

YEP, no repeat of Creed Humphreys is needed.

Gentry complements Muth nicely, much like Tuman did for Heath for a few years. Heyward is the x factor and will line up all over the place, hopefully giving D coordinators conniptions. We may even see jumbo packages on goal line, with some tackle eligible formations. We're alright at TE this year and we don't need to spend a draft pick on the position.

You can't teach 6 fuccin 8...

I couldn't agree more but if they had the full compliment you might have gotten an upgrade back up with starter capability in the fourth. Apparently deepest TE draft in a long time.
In my opinion Muth needs to try one of those goofy space age helmets. He concerns me.

Gentry has improved each year. He is never going to be a superstar, but he is a strong complimentary piece. Good signing for both him and the Steelers. I'd expect to see Heyward should take another step forward this year as well. I like our TE room.

Also, as others have mentioned, rather than using a high pick for a TE when we have other needs the Steelers can look at developmental options late if they are so inclined.
